Must hump trump's leg.  Everything he do good. Libs bad.  Blah blah blah.

Not a coincidence that people that embarrassed him In Tulsa used TikTok.  I'm sure that has NOtHING to do with it.

Sure, but there is a difference. Facebook, and the other American apps monitor your communication and location. TikTok can download and execute any file or application without notifying you. Keylogger, DDOS software, etc.

I don't use any social media personally, and think it is all bad, but, even I can see the difference.

I would agree that it makes perfect sense if there were a kickback in there somewhere for trump and his family. There's no way he would do it out of the kindness of hihahahahaha. sorry where were we?

He wants a kickback from MSFT, first - cuz, that's how this guy rolls

Believe me, he never thinks strategically about this stuff. He is still pissed about the Tulsa rally. I would bet the first time anyone on his staff heard about his plan was when he let it out of his yap yesterday.

I would have thought it was because of all the kpop fans sabotaging his MAGA rally attempts and screwing with his campaign merchandise inventories.

I'm sure It's just a coincidence. I mean FB was never on the path to become the next myspace were they? Trends never change for newer generations. They still wear jnco jeans and and play hacky sack don't they? /s

No i think it's because Trump feels owned because he thought a million people were going to show up for his rally and didn't and blames kids on  Tik Tok for it.

This.

Also, He heard that China is stealing our privacy, or something.

But since Trump knows exactly nothing about any of this stuff, he doesn't care about that at all, other than China being involved.

If he succeeds in this ban, the stores (Google and Apple), AND the developers, AND the advertisers will all be hurt by it.  And it is a classic example of why the government should not get involved in things like banning an app.

This is not China, or Iran, or Iraq, or North Korea.  We do not ban apps here.

If Trump attempts this, it will be in court in 2 seconds.  And all the people mentioned above will lost $millions$ in the meantime.

probably all the above.

I think some certain tech company figure mentioned it to him before or after trade talks and he went hmmm and then the rally thing happened and that was the final straw.

Does he even have the power to enforce a ban?

Hello fellow kids, have you seen my new video on Instagram Reels? Instagram Reels is a cool place where my friends and i post amazing videos. I like how Instagram Reels just rolls off the tongue. It's totally just as cool and quick as saying TikTok. Instagram Reels should be a big hit.

You really think the Facebook app couldn't download an update and do the same thing?

Even if they explicitly put it in an updated "privacy policy" or TOS, how many people are going to read it? And how many people would be able to parse the language they would cloak it in and understand that was what they're giving permission for it to do?

If you have Facebook installed, you've already given it permission to access your files, your camera, your microphone, your contacts, and basically anything else it wants.

2020-08-01 10:10:18 AM
In answer to your question, Subby, the answer is No. TikTok's ties to the Chinese government have been known since its beginning. That's common and expected in Chinese business. Nothing new here. Trump's threats began after some TikTok-ers pranked a Trump rally.

2020-08-01 10:11:05 AM
He is the most compromised president in history.  So, I'd say it's more likely than it being some kind of spyware.

Delc: Does he even have the power to enforce a ban?

No.

He can ban it from all government phones but not the general population. The government could force the US arm of the company to divest all foreign owners like they did with grindr.

Do you really think Microsoft would decide that they're going to for some reason limit their own access to user data they're already getting?

This used the same company whose *local* file search broke for many Windows 10 users when it couldn't access a cloud server.

LOCAL file search needed a Microsoft server.

Y'all really ascribe a lot more thought to Trump than he's proven capable of.  Seems a lot more likely that the thought process is Trump says 'China bad', Stephen Miller looked up from pulling the wings off his fly snacks, said 'Mr President, Tiktok is Chinese', and that's how the idea came about.

And your technical proof is what?  Exactly?  Has anybody provided any beyond the "hur durr, Chinese bad" argument?

Any Internet capable app on your phone has functionality  that by definition, could be considered spyware.

Tik Tok could had a flaw that could execute java script that was patched before the public knew about it.

Moscow based FaceApp is okay

2020-08-01 10:31:40 AM
OK some of you guys seem confused.
1. Tik Tok can only do what the OS allows or it can force an OS to let it do.
2. iOS has a walled garden for a reason (I wish it had a fully curated marketplace but it has a selectively curated market place...) Apple has the full ability to tear apart and analyze what the app is really doing and also has the ability to just kick it off.
3. Google Marketplace has the capability to behave like apple but has proven they simply don't care.
4. Jailbreaks or side loading on any platform breaks point 2 and 3.
5. Sneaky spy apps will always try to exist and they likely will succeed more times then not.
6. EVERYONE IS SPYING ON EVERYONE when you are online , offline etc. If you are under 40 you never gave up your privacy, we never had it. It's the new normal. For example our toll roads have been owned by various foreign "companies" for awhile. Being able to monitor citizens and the movement of goods and services is a real intel strength - your tv has a mic , your watch has a mic, your car has a mic and a gps I mean anything and everything is transmitting everything about you no matter how many times you click "private browsing" in your browser and fire up your vpn.

Yea, Tik Tok is a Chinese spy app. I bet there are 5 (insert random countries here) spy capable devices or apps within 10 feet of you now.

This isn't about being a Chinese spy app - if it was they would simply ban government and military people from using it and issuing a warning and moving on.
