We're still crying over Cooper,  and will for quite some time....  but it's really nice to have something to focus on beside the emptiness.

I would like to add my thanks as well, and if I have my numbers correct, that just became the most commented thread in Caturday history. And to my way of thinking, that's as it should be, it just goes to show how well-loved he was. As valnt9 said, we did him proud.

Right now I live in a rehab because I like drugs.  We had a cat here who was rescued from the dumpster with two broken legs, long before i got here. I was amazed at how laid back this cat was with forty drug addicts running around doing what we do.  The nicest farking cat I've ever known. Some jackass propped a door open one night and he got out and was hit in the street. It was too sad, Sammy was a big part of many of our recoveries. He played fetch for crissakes, where you find another cat like that?

Hey this is cool, I just got to rescue a kitten, just a couple of hours ago.

My 20lb maine coon had just cornered it in my tool shed and informed me of his successful police action.

I found a scared and underweight kitten, a little grey & tortie girl. Probably about 12 weeks, obviously socialized but she hadn't eaten in days.

We've got her quarantined in the garage until we can get her checked at the clinic Monday. Seems too young to be chipped. For now I just want to give her some calories and safe warm places to nap.

I missed last week's Caturday thread.  I didn't really know quantum_jellyroll directly, but I of course saw his name and his work on the Caturday threads and elsewhere.  I kind of took him for granted, and now I miss him.

So now I'll do the only thing I can do to honor him - post cat pictures.

In the last picture George is enjoying some fresh catnip.  I planted some in the garden, and so far it hasn't attracted neighborhood cats.  He actually isn't as much into catnip as other cats I've known, but he likes the fresh stuff now and then.

There's actually a family of skunks sharing a burrow with one or two woodchucks.  I kind of leave the skunks be, just after dusk they (or at least one of them) makes the rounds around the pool, then up under the fence into the neighbor's yard.  I've seen George staring at them through the screen door sometimes, luckily we have no close encounters since he stays in.  That said, in his previous life he was a stray in my neighborhood, so for all I know he, the skunks, and woodchucks knew each other and played poker every other Thursday.f

Here's Kitten X, who'd been driven to hide in my tool shed. We got a couple of meals into her and she was thrilled to have some close contact, just melting into me there. Now she's sleeping off her pig-out session.

That's Mousse, the massive Maine coon mix cat who apparently found this kitten out in our large almost rural yard and drove her into the shed. And then he came and got me so he could show off.

4 years ago he went to the vet for his first shots, he was almost 3 months old and weighed 5 pounds.  My vet said he would be big.  Well.....he is!!!  I need to weigh him, I'm sure he is over 20 pounds.   He is tall and long.   Look at those feet.   No idea about his lineage but Maine coon and a mix was thrown around

It's been a rough summer.  We knew that our two girls were getting older, but you're never prepared for how sudden it is.  You all might remember we lost Luna in early June.  Yesterday morning we heard Minka cry out in some serious pain, and she was almost paralyzed in her cat bed.  We rushed her to the vet and found out she was in heart failure.

She was Mrs. Samurai's cat since she was a junior in college, 17 years ago.  We put her to sleep yesterday, mercifully without as much suffering as her adopted sister went through.  It's our third loss in 15 months.  We knew years ago that adopting several the same age meant a risk of this happening.  Napoleon and Chairman Meow are struggling a little.  Lebowski seems to be taking it in stride, though, which is shocking considering how close he was with Minka.

Jasper was a year old yesterday. Here he is at 5 days old when he came with his siblings (Pearl, Opal, and Alabaster) as fosters. Crazy Uncle Hector is watching over them. Little did I know that Hector was actually picking out his replacement because he knew he would be crossing the Bridge in a couple of months. Jasper is in the white collar.

Here he is today. He has taken up Hector's mantle as a trainer of foster kittens. He has especially bonded with Payne who figured out how to follow Jasper onto the window hammock. He was rewarded by a bath.

We're confident they'll end up buddies.  Right now though Cody's bouncing and play bows and puppy barks are a bit much for Friday.  He is observing from a safe distance and trying to figure out this new critter.

Cool. I grew up with dogs and discovered cats later in life. Never had them at the same time. I'm sure the interactions are precious!

Thursday night Cisco update.  He's fine, he's been looking and acting normal for days.  Something I haven't mentioned is they shaved part of his belly to do the ultrasound.  He's used to being shaved so it's no big deal to him.  He's getting much too used to gushies in the evening, and he also knows what happens after gushies (he gets pilled).  Today he tried to sneak out of the room, then hid under a chair where he thought I couldn't catch him.  HA!  I was much too slow with the camera this afternoon.  Buzzie snuck up next to Cisco as they were both eating the gushies side by side, but by the time I grabbed my phone Cisco moved.  Take my word for it, it would have been a great pic.

We've decided to move the pills up.  Mrs S is supposed to pill Cisco noonish to 1:00 or so tomorrow.  She claims she's not a good piller but Cisco is easy to pill.  She wants me to pill him at 5:45 tomorrow morning before I go to work but I think she can do it herself.  Saturday's pills will depend on when we pill him tomorrow, then he'll get his last pills Sunday when we get home (we're going to be out of town Saturday night).  We'll be done at that point unless the Vet finds something during Saturday's checkup.

Here is my black cat story. Years ago on Halloween a black cat came up on our porch and walked in as if he owned the place. We had a cat at the time so since he had no signs of leaving we welcomed him and he settled in. We named him Shadow. I don't remember how long he was our cat. Both cats were indoor/outdoor. I don't remember how many years he was with us but one day he disappeared. We never saw him again and my daughter said she hoped he found his original family.

The Friday Cisco update.  We decided to pill him as I got home from work, then we'll pill him tomorrow morning before we leave.  He's a smart cat.  First he figured out that the sound of a can of cat food opening meant gushies for him.  By the next day he'd figured out that afternoon gushies meant pills, so he tried to sneak away after eating.  Today he realized that his eating the gushies meant pills so he said 'nope, not hungry".  The only way he's not hungry is if he's been filling up on dry food so we pilled him anyways.  Afterwards it was "oh, ok, yu gotz me.  I'll eat da gushies now."    Buzz has been enjoying the leftovers.

You know that little voice in your head that says, "maybe you should reconsider" before doing something stupid? Maybe I should start listening to that voice.

Since I don't have to be on campus until at least October, I decided this was a good time to dye my hair purple. I used to dye it all sorts of colours and had several facial piercings, but in the quest to become a responsible and respectable-looking member of society, I have done away with both. The students may have liked them, but I worried about being seen as a figure of authority like that. I won't see any students, ergo I can have purple hair.

I bought a box of temporary dye that is only supposed to last 10-15 shampoos. Fiance asked why I didn't go to the salon, which is a valid question that we live almost above a salon that accepts drop-ins, but I assured him I was capable of doing it myself. I was not.

After opening the box, I thought there wasn't enough dye, but decided to forge on anyway. There wasn't nearly enough dye. I did my best, but jumped in the shower and did at least 5 shampoos already. It's still wet, so it's too early to tell how it turned out, but if it turned out half as well as this cat's hair, I will be happy.

It's not THAT hot here, but old Maggie came in the cat door panting, again. The Mrs. (Timid Goddess) got her some ice water. While she was drinking I wetted her fur down and she relaxed on my chair arm in front of the fan. It's not THAT hot here, but old Maggie came in the cat door panting, again. The Mrs. (Timid Goddess) got her some ice water. While she was drinking I wetted her fur down and she relaxed on my chair arm in front of the fan. After 20 minutes or so she was demanding gushy food and then she was off again to do her Important Cat Things outside.

Suggestion: Get a large (bigger the better)* stainless steel mixing bowl. Fill with cool water and stick it in the freezer overnight. When Maggie wants to out for the first time, place it outside in a shady spot (without adding additional water) and let it melt - it should provide icy (for a few hours, at first) water, and then at least colder water as it melts.

*Note: the deeper the bowl is, the longer it will take for the ice to melt - but conversely, it will take that much longer to freeze. If you have the room, alternating two bowls would be ideal.

The Saturday morning Cisco update.  We just got back from the followup visit with our regular Vet.  Mrs S was actually allowed to go in.  He's doing fine.  They drew blood but we won't have results until Monday.  He sang "The Song of His People" all the way there and back.  He's not happy with us today!

Morning all! Been running around all morning but got in my walk and saw this bird and a hawk, the smaller bird was at least 3x as small and had zero farms to give and was going after the hawk. Tried to get pictures but way too fast.
Also saw this little guy out there very pretty blue with a red breast.

I have called for a welfare check for our DLC. While I understand that some may disagree. I am worried, and given his diabetic issues, I just could not stand by and do nothing. I stand willing to take any flack for my actions. I care. And while there may be reprocussions...cause you know...we are not the most sober bunch..ordinarily, I would not worry, but given his last posts? Yeah. I can't stand by. It is not in my make up. So I gave my number to the police and I will stay awake until I get a call. Might be a long night.

GoofySunny85: Snuffybud: Thursday night Cisco update.  He's fine, he's been looking and acting normal for days.  Something I haven't mentioned is they shaved part of his belly to do the ultrasound.  He's used to being shaved so it's no big deal to him.  He's getting much too used to gushies in the evening, and he also knows what happens after gushies (he gets pilled).  Today he tried to sneak out of the room, then hid under a chair where he thought I couldn't catch him.  HA!  I was much too slow with the camera this afternoon.  Buzzie snuck up next to Cisco as they were both eating the gushies side by side, but by the time I grabbed my phone Cisco moved.  Take my word for it, it would have been a great pic.

We've decided to move the pills up.  Mrs S is supposed to pill Cisco noonish to 1:00 or so tomorrow.  She claims she's not a good piller but Cisco is easy to pill.  She wants me to pill him at 5:45 tomorrow morning before I go to work but I think she can do it herself.  Saturday's pills will depend on when we pill him tomorrow, then he'll get his last pills Sunday when we get home (we're going to be out of town Saturday night).  We'll be done at that point unless the Vet finds something during Saturday's checkup.

On the plus size, I think I've located Jupiter.  It's bright, and right behind the moon by many arc degrees.

And when I check it out with the 10x70 binoculars, I can see really tiny lights arrayed to the right where Io, Europa, and Ganymede should be.

Mo figured out that Dresden doesn't sleep on the outside side of the bed. With Mr. Bobug's restlessness, Ushi rarely sleeps on me. Agi is a sleepy heat slut, who burrows into a special blanket between our pillows, and rarely moves. Dres sleeps on top of Agi, or against my feet. Major is Mo's partner in crime, so not a threat. Mo LOVES attention. Well, they all do. I always end up with the babies around me, wanting love.

What can I do? Babies need lovin'

Mudd's woman: Question for those of you with long-haired kittehs.

Finnegan is the first long-haired cat I have ever been owned by. He enjoys the grooming with the Kong rubbery-nibs thing, the regular slicker brush, and the recently obtained Furminator (thanks for the suggestion, almostsane !).

I have kept him pretty smooth, but I did notice he has two or three mats in his "nether regions." He's not a poopy butt at all, but these little mats are just on the inside up on his lower belly.

Needless to say, I am having a hard time getting to them without encountering serious resistance. Nothing seems to be bothering him (though how would I really know?) other than he is not fond of the brush poking around down there. I am going to try and cut them out one at a time as the option become feasible.

Am I doing the right thing? He's never been shaved or anything, and I do worry about his uber-skittishness to begin with.

Snuffybud: Thursday night Cisco update.  He's fine, he's been looking and acting normal for days.  Something I haven't mentioned is they shaved part of his belly to do the ultrasound.  He's used to being shaved so it's no big deal to him.  He's getting much too used to gushies in the evening, and he also knows what happens after gushies (he gets pilled).  Today he tried to sneak out of the room, then hid under a chair where he thought I couldn't catch him.  HA!  I was much too slow with the camera this afternoon.  Buzzie snuck up next to Cisco as they were both eating the gushies side by side, but by the time I grabbed my phone Cisco moved.  Take my word for it, it would have been a great pic.

We've decided to move the pills up.  Mrs S is supposed to pill Cisco noonish to 1:00 or so tomorrow.  She claims she's not a good piller but Cisco is easy to pill.  She wants me to pill him at 5:45 tomorrow morning before I go to work but I think she can do it herself.  Saturday's pills will depend on when we pill him tomorrow, then he'll get his last pills Sunday when we get home (we're going to be out of town Saturday night).  We'll be done at that point unless the Vet finds something during Saturday's checkup.

Well, yesterday the County Health Dept said they didn't think anyone should be doing in person classes until our infection rate goes down. No idea if there will be reductions in force becasue of this or not. It would make sense to keep us all on..but then again, it is the school board. I won't know until late Monday night. I might have to watch the school board meeting..ugh..

Wednesday, grandpa admitted to hospital for what appears to be colon cancer than has metastasized. He's 87 and doesn't really want to fight it more than he has to. Currently he's in surgery and due to COVID restrictions, the only person who can go to the hospital is mom. And well me but I can only go into the entrance to handle the errands and what not because if she leaves the building, she can't come back for the day. At least I only live down the street from the hospital.

Thursday, my cousin has a spot on his head. They're concerned for skin cancer. So he's being sent to a dermatologist and oh, you might want to do it to since you're similar in age and both fried in the summer months as kids. Sorry, I had my cancer experience 20 years ago, can I pass on this one..

I need to get drunk damnit....

Sexy Jesus: Right now I live in a rehab because I like drugs.  We had a cat here who was rescued from the dumpster with two broken legs, long before i got here. I was amazed at how laid back this cat was with forty drug addicts running around doing what we do.  The nicest farking cat I've ever known. Some jackass propped a door open one night and he got out and was hit in the street. It was too sad, Sammy was a big part of many of our recoveries. He played fetch for crissakes, where you find another cat like that?

Under interrogation she refused to explain. Satisfied by a bowl of cat food for breakfast, she had no intention of speaking again until dinnertime.

Friday was investigating the travel crate and Cody came over to say hi.  They did a couple nose boops and then Friday jumped up onto the nearby chair.

Cody is so cute, I'm sure he'll win over Friday... any day now. :-)

We're confident they'll end up buddies.  Right now though Cody's bouncing and play bows and puppy barks are a bit much for Friday.  He is observing from a safe distance and trying to figure out this new critter.

Cool. I grew up with dogs and discovered cats later in life. Never had them at the same time. I'm sure the interactions are precious!

I witnessed a scene of carnage today. I've never seen my cats catch a mouse or a bird (no lizards either, but I've never lived in an area that had them). I still haven't, but I saw Alfie attack and toy with a large moth today. He just kept batting at it and batting at it without killing it, also picking it up in his mouth and spitting it out several times. Fiance tried to take the moth away from Alfie, but Alfie got very upset, so Fiance gave it back. Eventually, Alfie ate it, but the moth definitely didn't get an honourable death.

Sunday afternoon Cisco (and all the other boyz) update.  We got back from the lake a few hours ago, it was brutally hot and there's no reason to hide inside there if we can be home.  Cisco certainly knows that food means pilling afterwards.  He was doing his best to not be caught, it took two of us to catch him.  After all our movement of pill times we forgot to pill him yesterday before we left.  One more day of pills, and we should get the report from the vets tomorrow too.

Desi forgave us for going away as soon as we walked in the house.  Jack forgave us for going away as soon as we fed him.  I don't think Buzz has forgiven us yet.  The first thing he did was show me his sharp and pointy teeth (no bite but he sure let me know he coulda).  I was trying to get his attention and he showed me his back.  I went outside to water the catnip and grab some leaks, when I came back in he was on the dining room table next to the door in the prime catnip leaf spot.  Of course he was showing me his back there too!!

Cisco was telling me how evil I was for pilling him earlier.

Never be afraid to scruff a cat. No matter how hard you squeeze, it doesn't hurt them (despite what some people will say) - I have cared for many fosters/friends & neighbors cats as well as cat sitting - I always have to explain that it's easier on them (natural instinct to relax) and easier on me (less bleeding).

If you have do something by yourself that requires more than two hands, use a Binder Clip to scruff the cat (I recommend Medium to Large for small/regular size cats, and Jumbo for cats the size of Finnegan - I may have a few spares laying around if you need one, lemme know and I'll send it to you).

And as someone else mentioned, use the smallest possible scissors you can find (I use the ones that came with a hair trimmer) it allows you greater range of motion and is a bit less scary to kitty. Best of luck!

Someone had an interesting night again. I'll have to go for a wander around the neighborhood and see if I can connect to a lost tile/collar. I think I'll have to order another set of tiles. This is the last spare silly cat.
Weather has cooled down so it's the GPS harness for a bit then.

both my legs are bleeding from a cat catapulting off me with a big, very close lightning strike. we don't get that many good loud storms here and the cats don't know how to deal with them.

Snuffybud: If I had DLC's real name (I don't) I could plug it into the Bunhamturd Police Blotter lookup.  Someone else who may know his full real name might try this and see what comes up.


One of the Facebook Caturday ladies said she didn't find him in the police blotters.  So, either he isn't in jail or his name hasn't worked through the system.

Given the threats of physical harm from a neighbor, I'm worried about whether he is in the hospital system...

Hello Caturday, Cabbage here.  I'm alright, not dead or in jail (yet?).  Phone problems, memory storage being consumed at excess rate.  Apps keep stopping on it.
