(People Magazine)   Shelter workers take in an orphaned new-born rescue kitten unable to walk. They made him tiny homemade splints out of tongue depressors, gauze, medical wrap bandages, and tape to keep his legs steady. The result is anything but depressing on Caturday   (people.com) divider line

The Ice Queen: So can someone seriously threaten 2020 and make it go EABOD or DIAF (or both).

So today, they told us that they want to get grandpa home on hospice tomorrow. He is starting to go downhill rapidly and if we want him to have any type of comfort (or maybe rebound some by being at home), we got to get him home. So dealing with that. Mom called me this am, said she wasn't feeling good and wouldn't be able to bring me lunch to work. That's fine, I had planned on leaving early anyways to take care of things. I get a text message as i'm leaving that she needs me home. So brain goes to worst thoughts. Turns out, she needs me to take her to the ER. She wouldn't keep anything down and had actually passed out earlier in the day and hit her head in the bathroom. So thankfully, no concussion but severely dehydrated and has a bad case of colitis. Oh, and she managed to pass out again at the hospital when her BP bottomed out, again. So now, her medical and grandpa's medical has fallen on my shoulders because I'm the only one with that background *(other than mom). thankfully, other family members are helping with the non-medical stuff, like taking care of grandpa's dog and getting house ready for him to come home. However, it's like Holy fark!!

Go away 2020!!!

I'm so sorry this has all fallen on you!!!  I know how it feels.  Stay strong!  (((HUGS)))

Here's Kitten X, who'd been driven to hide in my tool shed. We got a couple of meals into her and she was thrilled to have some close contact, just melting into me there. Now she's sleeping off her pig-out session.

[Fark user image image 766x588]

That's Mousse, the massive Maine coon mix cat who apparently found this kitten out in our large almost rural yard and drove her into the shed. And then he came and got me so he could show off.

The kitten is sweet, and Mousse is adorable!

I need some cat advice. A while ago, Fiance tripped and fell into the open litter box. As disgusting as that was, the bigger problem was that it cracked the box. We kept using it, but I noticed that the crack seemed to be getting bigger and that litter was starting to spill out. Last week, I bought a new container to use as a litter box. It is a few inches shorter and the sides are a little higher, but I have seen all the cats use it. We have also found that at least twice, one of the cats is peeing in front of the covered litter box. Gustav has had issues about peeing on things in the past, but usually on soft things, so we're not 100% sure who it is. We haven't thrown the old box away yet. Should we try to patch it and give it back to them? Or look for another new, bigger box? Toilet train? Thanks!

Never be afraid to scruff a cat. No matter how hard you squeeze, it doesn't hurt them (despite what some people will say) - I have cared for many fosters/friends & neighbors cats as well as cat sitting - I always have to explain that it's easier on them (natural instinct to relax) and easier on me (less bleeding).

If you have do something by yourself that requires more than two hands, use a Binder Clip to scruff the cat (I recommend Medium to Large for small/regular size cats, and Jumbo for cats the size of Finnegan - I may have a few spares laying around if you need one, lemme know and I'll send it to you).

And as someone else mentioned, use the smallest possible scissors you can find (I use the ones that came with a hair trimmer) it allows you greater range of motion and is a bit less scary to kitty. Best of luck!

Thanks. I am contemplating the binder clip option. Just trying to envision the logistics, considering where the clip will go and where the "issue" is. Hmmm.   Not entirely confident I can pull this off, so to speak.

You know that little voice in your head that says, "maybe you should reconsider" before doing something stupid? Maybe I should start listening to that voice.

Since I don't have to be on campus until at least October, I decided this was a good time to dye my hair purple. I used to dye it all sorts of colours and had several facial piercings, but in the quest to become a responsible and respectable-looking member of society, I have done away with both. The students may have liked them, but I worried about being seen as a figure of authority like that. I won't see any students, ergo I can have purple hair.

I bought a box of temporary dye that is only supposed to last 10-15 shampoos. Fiance asked why I didn't go to the salon, which is a valid question that we live almost above a salon that accepts drop-ins, but I assured him I was capable of doing it myself. I was not.

After opening the box, I thought there wasn't enough dye, but decided to forge on anyway. There wasn't nearly enough dye. I did my best, but jumped in the shower and did at least 5 shampoos already. It's still wet, so it's too early to tell how it turned out, but if it turned out half as well as this cat's hair, I will be happy.

In other news, I may be going to the salon tomorrow and begging them to fix it.

I know there was conversation about whether any caturday'ers had bail money for him.... Did he have anyone's number to actually make use of that or is that a running joke in Caturday or.......????  I got kicked into Momma Bear mode in seventh grade when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and Momma Bear mode has never shut off.

more or less a running joke. nobody has needed it yet, but I'm sure would be taken seriously if needed.
