(People Magazine)   Shelter workers take in an orphaned new-born rescue kitten unable to walk. They made him tiny homemade splints out of tongue depressors, gauze, medical wrap bandages, and tape to keep his legs steady. The result is anything but depressing on Caturday   (people.com) divider line

For dogs at least, the scissors are less stressful than the buzzer.  I think it's a good idea  to start out with the snips before trying the shaver

Thanks.
I am going to try to get at least one mat snipped today.

When I had a long hair, I used those little embroidery scissors to take out mats. Just be sure to take tiny snips, and at an angle. Sometimes I could just cut the mat, and remover the rest with my fingers by gently pulling it apart. And  yes she was super zen.

Yes, cutting through a mat will make it easier to brush out and save you from worrying about hurting your baby.  We do that to Sasha for

Every now and again I crash on the couch here in the attic workroom, and the morning sun hits a long-lost CD lying in the dormer window what faces east.

No cats involved, but it sprays a rainbow over the room, which is nice.

Sexy Jesus: Right now I live in a rehab because I like drugs.  We had a cat here who was rescued from the dumpster with two broken legs, long before i got here. I was amazed at how laid back this cat was with forty drug addicts running around doing what we do.  The nicest farking cat I've ever known. Some jackass propped a door open one night and he got out and was hit in the street. It was too sad, Sammy was a big part of many of our recoveries. He played fetch for crissakes, where you find another cat like that?

RIP Sammy

Damnit. Sorry for your loss. (((((HUGS)))))

CrankyAndi: Mudd's woman: Question for those of you with long-haired kittehs.

Finnegan is the first long-haired cat I have ever been owned by. He enjoys the grooming with the Kong rubbery-nibs thing, the regular slicker brush, and the recently obtained Furminator (thanks for the suggestion, almostsane !).

I have kept him pretty smooth, but I did notice he has two or three mats in his "nether regions." He's not a poopy butt at all, but these little mats are just on the inside up on his lower belly.

Needless to say, I am having a hard time getting to them without encountering serious resistance. Nothing seems to be bothering him (though how would I really know?) other than he is not fond of the brush poking around down there. I am going to try and cut them out one at a time as the option become feasible.

Am I doing the right thing? He's never been shaved or anything, and I do worry about his uber-skittishness to begin with.

ZAZ: "Why is the mouse wet?" It was a fair question. It had been forming somewhere in my subconcious too. There was no good reason for it. Dead on the floor, that we could understand. The cat had been staring under the refrigerator for days, a sign that it was about to dispense a new toy for her. But wet and dead on the floor, that made about as much sense as a Wookie on Endor.

Under interrogation she refused to explain. Satisfied by a bowl of cat food for breakfast, she had no intention of speaking again until dinnertime.

Mom used to work for the American Association of Scientists as an editor (ask me about the time Linus Pauling called during dinner) and she had some cool friends. One New Year's Eve party I got to look at Saturn through a Naval Observatory telescope, which I will admit was pretty badass.

I also updated and marked the deck for a friend's 8" motorized reflector, she lives out in the boonies and has amazing sky. That was also cool. :)

Morning all! Been running around all morning but got in my walk and saw this bird and a hawk, the smaller bird was at least 3x as small and had zero farms to give and was going after the hawk. Tried to get pictures but way too fast.
Also saw this little guy out there very pretty blue with a red breast.
