(People Magazine)   Shelter workers take in an orphaned new-born rescue kitten unable to walk. They made him tiny homemade splints out of tongue depressors, gauze, medical wrap bandages, and tape to keep his legs steady. The result is anything but depressing on Caturday   (people.com) divider line

Snuffybud: The Friday Cisco update.  We decided to pill him as I got home from work, then we'll pill him tomorrow morning before we leave.  He's a smart cat.  First he figured out that the sound of a can of cat food opening meant gushies for him.  By the next day he'd figured out that afternoon gushies meant pills, so he tried to sneak away after eating.  Today he realized that his eating the gushies meant pills so he said 'nope, not hungry".  The only way he's not hungry is if he's been filling up on dry food so we pilled him anyways.  Afterwards it was "oh, ok, yu gotz me.  I'll eat da gushies now."    Buzz has been enjoying the leftovers.

IDK why people think cats aren't smart enough to see relationships in *this* means I get *that*.

This pretty much captures my feelings about the hot and humid right now!

HOT and HUMID is all there is in Ga.

yeah, yeah, I know...I'm a broken record LOL     ; - )

Seems like every year I become less tolerant of the "4 H club" (hellaciously hazy, hot, and humid).

I have run my A/C more this year than I ever have. my elec bill $how$ it!

Oh, mine too.
I am still having an A/C issue, and I am definitely losing patience.
The maintenance dude Chris came in a week or so ago and cleaned out some big old fan. He thought that might do it, and I gave several days to see if there was a change...nope. Still runs intermittently during the morning and early afternoon, then by about 2:30-3:00 it starts to run and does not shut off until the middle of the night, all the while the temperature hovering about one or two degrees above where I set it.

I contacted the office again the day before yesterday. I will start getting irritated on Monday.
Especially after I just wrote the rent check for August with my NEW RENT RATE.

Did it go down, you ask?

Rent's gone up every year with a new lease.
And the "amenities" in my apartment continue to get old and worn.

I don't need luxury in my apartment (god knows) but when my electric bill doubles in one month, yeah NO.

So they had better do something next week for sure.

I'm sorry but that little cat-n-mouse game (cat-n-piller game?) you described made me giggle a bit.
Sorry for your hassle though.

Please welcome Cody!
He's 8 weeks old and 11lbs of floof.

We're still crying over Cooper,  and will for quite some time....  but it's really nice to have something to focus on beside the emptiness.

This made me SQUEEEEE this morning!!!  Congrats for Cody falling into the bestest place ever.

Mid-80s are typical summer temps in my area. Mid to upper 90s or the even rarer 100° temps are uncommon and tend to show up in late August.

Well, yesterday the County Health Dept said they didn't think anyone should be doing in person classes until our infection rate goes down. No idea if there will be reductions in force becasue of this or not. It would make sense to keep us all on..but then again, it is the school board. I won't know until late Monday night. I might have to watch the school board meeting..ugh..

Thank you my dear. I am holding out the hope that I can do what I did in the Spring, which is to record story time for people...And I have.a book that I think will work for 4th and 5th grade as a one chapter a week thing.

When we see Mo with that look, we say she's staring down wall dragons. She protects us from inter-dimensional dragons, which would otherwise take us out. And then she flops onto her mommy and proceeds to sack out until I make her get up.

Riche: lilyspad: Farking HOT!!!

It's not THAT hot here, but old Maggie came in the cat door panting, again. The Mrs. (Timid Goddess) got her some ice water. While she was drinking I wetted her fur down and she relaxed on my chair arm in front of the fan. After 20 minutes or so she was demanding gushy food and then she was off again to do her Important Cat Things outside.

There's water available outside, just not ice water.

Poor old thing (she's around 17) is seriously underweight, but still is active and eats and drinks. The panting unnerves me. I wish she would just hang out here inside instead of going out to do whatever it is she does. We've had quite a few cats over the years. Maggie is the first to refuse to slow down when she got old.
Suggestion: Get a large (bigger the better)* stainless steel mixing bowl. Fill with cool water and stick it in the freezer overnight. When Maggie wants to out for the first time, place it outside in a shady spot (without adding additional water) and let it melt - it should provide icy (for a few hours, at first) water, and then at least colder water as it melts.

*Note: the deeper the bowl is, the longer it will take for the ice to melt - but conversely, it will take that much longer to freeze. If you have the room, alternating two bowls would be ideal.

Just a thought ☺

UNC_Samurai: It's been a rough summer.  We knew that our two girls were getting older, but you're never prepared for how sudden it is.  You all might remember we lost Luna in early June.  Yesterday morning we heard Minka cry out in some serious pain, and she was almost paralyzed in her cat bed.  We rushed her to the vet and found out she was in heart failure.

[Fark user image 425x318]

She was Mrs. Samurai's cat since she was a junior in college, 17 years ago.  We put her to sleep yesterday, mercifully without as much suffering as her adopted sister went through.  It's our third loss in 15 months.  We knew years ago that adopting several the same age meant a risk of this happening.  Napoleon and Chairman Meow are struggling a little.  Lebowski seems to be taking it in stride, though, which is shocking considering how close he was with Minka.

[Fark user image 425x318]

So very sorry for your losses.
