strange things are afoot in that headline.

Kwik Trips are a delight to be in, just based on their bakery selections. The others? Unworthy of the term "competitors." I would like nothing better than to see Kwik Trip, and more specifically its Kwik Star truck stop brand, take over the nation.

Unfortunately, realistic me knows that would just ruin them.

My freight rarely takes me into their territory, I indulge myself whenever I'm close enough to one.

If you don't live on the road you don't understand what going from, say, a TA to a Kwik Trip or Kwik Star means.

And get the fark right out with QT, that Quik Trip imposter.

QT predates Kwik Trip by seven years.  Who's the imposter?

I know what I know. All that means is that QT is visited more.

Never been to a WaWa because they don't have truck stops.

One of few things I miss about Wisconsin is Kwik Trip. There's a certain joy you get from buying your steak, whiskey, 4pack cinnamon rolls, brats, gallon of milk, and 1/4 of beer in one stop while your car is fueling up outside.

/OMG I miss their cinnamon rolls now

Also, QT's big "corporate culture" thing is having no seats, even in the manager's office. So at a QT truck stop sure you can buy your food, but there's nowhere to sit and eat it on your 30 minute break, AND they have no reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities because "sitting is against our culture" so there is no room for a chair, whereas I've seen both TAs and Pilots with disabled people who sit behind the counter. And when you make TA seem reasonable, you absolutely suck.

QT's whole schtick just offends me on a moral level. On Rand McNally they don't even differentiate between QT truck stops and non truck stops. Even Loves decided to call their car-only places a slightly different name because they got tired of trucks moving in with 15 minutes of drive time left. QT and Valero? Naw, we won't make any branding concessions so you have to guess if there is parking available. Or mess around with your electronics for 5 minutes while you drive to get that information. I loathe companies that can't make it easy to tell at a glance whether it is truck legal or not. It is basically a middle finger at everyone because it guarantees some truck drivers will try it anyway and their auto customers are gonna be inconvenienced.

Whatever the survey says is absolutely wrong. It is asking the wrong questions because QT is objectively a garbage company. They don't give a damn about anything. Not your convenience, not your safety.

I don't know about the disability thing, but what truckers want and need is very different from the non-truckers.  The morning coffee person, the lottery/cigs person, the late night beer person, the don't want to go to a grocery store today person etc.  A lot of car people if they want to sit down at all during their stop would prefer going to a real restaurant, at least before Rona.

I agree there are better truck stops than your typical QT truck stop, but for the average neighborhood gas station, nothing comes within miles of it.  I live in Dallas (home to 7-Eleven NA), so of course your results may vary.

That would be confusing.  Around here Speedway has some places with truck fueling lanes, but for almost all of them nowhere to park.  I assume they get most of their business from the truckers who go home every night, but it has to be confusing for the long distance guys.

That's my work !

If they could put the new fried chicken in every damn store they would but some older ones (like mine) don't have the room for a separate kitchen area the chicken needs even with a remodel. Good I guess we can say we're in 4 states now.

It's always funny when folks from out of town come in and are looking around like mad and then finally ask "do you sell beer?" They are shocked to learn that Rochester does not allow any business that sells gas to also sell beer , not a city ordinance against it but when one applies for a license the answer is always no.

As someone who lives in LaCrosse Wi, where the main distribution is for Kwik Trip.  WaWa is better, and I have only been to one in Pennsylvania after checking into a hotel after 11 pm and was hungry.

But kwik trip is still good.  only downside is all the Dougnuts and Hot food items are frozen and then nuked, and the Pizza is horrid.  and I have no clue who ever allowed the inedible Pretzels to be served.

Well, they just got done assimilating the PDQ stores into the Borg, might as well start on another chain.

/Kwik Trip maple glazed persian and a Kona Blend coffee is a good way to start your day.

I agree with you on the pizza being not great, and the sandwiches, while made by Kwik Trip are indeed frozen and then reheated in store. However, the doughnuts are in fact made fresh daily and delivered that way to the store. The big bakery on Palace street in La Crosse makes like 2 million doughnuts a week or something like that. Along with all of their cookies, brownies, and store brand bread and buns.

They also contract direct with dairy farmers, and bottle their own milk and make their own butter. So it's usually fresher than the stuff at the grocery store. Same goes for the eggs.

Kwik Trip is one of those companies that is... interesting. Next time you go in one, look for some condoms. Last I knew the Zietlow's refused to stock them for religious reasons.  They're not the worst company around, but I'll wager their insurance (when it's offered) has asked for the same exemption as Hobby Lobby.

One son's girlfriend used to work at a tiny one in Eau Claire, and they had frozen doughnuts delivered by truck and icing in tubs. His girlfriend used to work morning shift, they took them out the night before to thaw. The morning person / crew would frost them and put' em out.

Most of the stuff is pretty middling in quality. I've had worse, I've had better, and a LOT of it depends on the store / employees. Example of something that should be consistent: the Minh pork egg rolls should be easy to keep consistent. They're not that consistent. That's with something they drop in a fryer for a couple minutes and toss on the roller grill or on the hot shelf.

They also have shiat coffee IMHO. Sure they change it regularly, but like most convenience store coffee it's low end. They do invest in technology, but so does Holiday and FKG... among others.
