(Nature)   Scientists say all forests on Earth will be clear cut within 100-200 years. The good news is, civilization will collapse in only 20-40 years, so the trees should be safe   (nature.com) divider line

With a better work ethic it can be done sooner.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a good idea?

I know many of you think we need trees around in case we get chased by a bear but guess what idiot those farkers can climb trees. Get rid of them and grow up.

True. I am very tired of living under decades of Green Party rule here in America.

SanityIsAFullTimeJob: Forestation minimum in the US was around 1920, at 721,000,000 acres. Population : 106,000,000

Forestation now is 766,000,000 acres. Population : 330,000,000

Call me skeptical.

Environmentalists long ago abandoned reality and objective facts in favor of pushing fear as a means of gaining control and pushing their nihilistic and misanthropic agenda. Pretty much every breathless prediction of doom and death isn't just wrong, it's spectacularly wrong and unlikely to come true at any point during the next 1000 years.

Which, of course, just makes them even madder.

They can be safely ignored.

Population in red, space for them to live in blue.

So you're saying the Chinese government should be applauded for their recent attempts to adjust the blue line by building islands in the ocean.

Oh I bet it will be sooner than that. Most tree growing areas have been logged 2-3 times in the last 200 years. Somehow we still have lots of trees.

1funguy: aungen: 1funguy: I have met quite a few scientists in the past 60 years.
Most of them are shaking their head as we read stories like this.
Nearly none of them deal exclusively in if/then statements without constant update and review (flow chart) thinking.

Relax.

I used to teach environmental physics, and we talked about the 2020 end-game for oil production.  This end-game for tree's is pretty much the same thing.  It's an exercise in math, not having much to do with what will actually happen.

On the other hand, I loved the comment about 'we don't need trees to hide from bears or whatever, bears can climb trees anyway, idiots.'  :)

Thank you.
I'm not a flat earthier, evidently that's seems to be a thing here.
Although, if we were climbing trees to avoid bears...flat earth era would have a considerably easier time of it, as us round earthers would also expend a considerable amount of energy climbing the curvature of the earth before we even got around to climbing the actual tree.

But, when nature gives ya'll a perfect way to reduce the world population a considerable amount, you go crazy trying to stop it and tell people they have to stay home and wear a mask, thereby saving the eldest, most energy intensive population that we would do well to lose post haste.

Nature provided us with an out and we shoved it back in her face.

+1 for nuclear rain. The sooner, the better.

Unless you are a teenager, you
probably read in your high school textbooks that these extinctions were
the result of asteroids. In fact, all but the one that killed the dinosaurs
involved climate change produced by greenhouse gas. The most notorious
was 250 million years ago; it began when carbon dioxide warmed the
planet by five degrees Celsius, accelerated when that warming triggered
the release of methane, another greenhouse gas, and ended with all but a
sliver of life on Earth dead. We are currently adding carbon to the
atmosphere at a considerably faster rate; by most estimates, at least ten
times faster. The rate is one hundred times faster than at any point in
human history before the beginning of industrialization. And there is
already, right now, fully a third more carbon in the atmosphere than at
any point in the last 800,000 years-perhaps in as long as 15 million
years. There were no humans then. The oceans were more than a
hundred feet higher.

I hope they dont use all the trees to make paper for rich people to send old timey letters back and forth congratulating each other on getting their teenage androids pregnant. I think they should save a little to make wooden guns so that way when aliens come to enslave humanity we can say "Hey I guess youll be wanting our guns before you put us in your zoo or whatever" and when they try to shoot one of us to show they mean business we can all have a good laugh together.
