(YouTube)   What do *you* think the famous Smokey and the Bandit "Diablo sandwich" was? Subby thinks it was a pulled pork sandwich with hot sauce and diced jalapeños. Convince him otherwise   (youtube.com) divider line

Not sure how accurate this is or if this lady just made it up:

Diablo Sandwich Recipe

Diablo Sandwich Recipe Ingredients
1 pound of ground beef
3/4 cup of diced tomatoes
3/4 cup of canned corn
3/4 cup of water
taco seasoning to taste
lettuce
sour cream
hamburger buns

Diablo Sandwich Recipe Directions:
Brown the ground beef. Add remaining ingredients except for lettuce, sour cream and hamburger buns. Let the mixture stew anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour. The longer the better. I cooked it for 40 minutes covered, and then uncovered for the remaining 20 minutes to thicken it up a bit as the liquid burns off. Place the lettuce on a bun, top with the El Diablo beef mixture, and then add a dollop of sour cream.

I don't know, but give it to me with a Dr. Pepper. And make it fast; I'm in a cot-damned hurry!

Help!  A short-order cook in a rush just dropped some bread and filling and we have no idea what it is!

Stay calm and everybody back away from the Hoagie, I've got this!

Sorry subby, two far west for pork, and would be smoked

I'm going with chopped brisket, everything else the same

It amuses me how much effort has been put into figuring out ingredients in what is often a one off line in a movie or TV show.

He does come up with good looking stuff, and I'd be surprised it wasn't pretty tasty.  Problem being, how the heck do you know if it tastes anything like said cinematic item was conceived to taste?  That's really pretty unverifiable, barring having whoever came up with it around to play taste tester.

Gonna have to agree with the pulled pork theory, but with Trappey's Mexi-Pep hot sauce from the Old Hickory House restaurant.

Theory from this site http://www.shadeone.com/diablo/ for the hot sauce which was pictured in the movie.

Confirmed it was from this place.  https://oldhickoryhousebbq.com/ "
The old Forrest Park location was the one who had a scene in the movie "Smokey & The Bandit" filmed in 1977. This scene at the Old Hickory House had Jackie Gleason and Burt Reynolds in it. Gleason ordered a Diablo sandwich which we now serve at our location in Tucker, Georgia. "

I was thinking of a Texas version of sausage and peppers, but with a Fra diavolo sauce on top.

OK, now one of you who lives close to the Old Hickory House in Tucker GA go grab yourself a Diablo sandwich and report back.

...why? We've identified what it was, where it came from, and that you can get one today. I'm good. No more effort need be expended.

I played Diablo 3. It got a lot better after they patched out the nonsense, but honestly the whole thing just felt like a chore.

Why?  Why not?

It doesn't actually state on the Old Hickory House menu what type of meat is in the sandwich.  Could be pulled turkey or chopped meat or pulled pork?  But I'm still nearly sure it's pulled pork.

You know what?  I absolutely love that damn movie.  I don't know why it doesn't appear higher on the average Joe's "Best comedies" list.  Didn't even make the AFI's top 100 comedies list.   Only gets 7 stars on IMDB and ...

Those should be 100% and 100%.  It's not a film, it's a got-damn documentary!

Oh, also, am I the only one who realized that there at the end of the movie, when they're heading out of the fairgrounds to escape the cops and they make a bet to bring back Boston clam chowder in 18 hours, that they could:

a) go to Bandit's apartment and make some
b) get on a got-damn plane and FLY to Boston and bring some back
c) etcetera

It's not like they could be expected to bring back a computerized receipt like the ones registers print these days, nor could they take a photo of them hanging around in a Legal Seafoods somewhere near Framingham and get it developed in time to hand in with the clam chowder. And no photo was required in the terms of the bet, anyway.

I might do this!

My route will be from Valley Forge with a stopover in Lexington to say hi to Drew and then down to Old Hickory to get a Diablo sandwich and then back to Valley Forge.  (or Old Hickory first and then drop off a Diablo sandwich for Drew on my way back home)  Miles for the trip?  Google says 1776! (map won't link)

Google says 27 hours.  I think I can do it in 25.  Who wants a piece of the action?

But seriously, maybe something for a charity of Fark's choosing.

It's my job to avoid feature creep. The original request has been satisfied.

You'll have to submit another work item if you want that request extended, and you'll have to put it on the backlog. My sprint's covered.

Dammit! If I was off this week I'd race you!

With handicap of course. Says it would take 22h15m Leave, visit Drew, get a Diablo sandwich and a Dr Pepper, take a squirt, put the evidence in the car, violate the Mann Act, find Cletus, retrieve Junior's hat (wish his gotdamn head was in it) "play with myself", back to home base. Sounds fair.

Next year... Clam chowder!

The Texas side anyway. Think the Arkansas side is dry.
