"If inciting people to do that is being French, and if killing those who wave "Jihad good" signs is French, then let history be witness that we are French."
2002-02-01 08:24:39 AM
Freedom of speech is a funny thing, eh?
2002-02-01 08:27:09 AM
It is only a matter of time before the French piss off the whole world, and start something they have to surrender in.
Is it any wonder we British don't love them?
2002-02-01 08:27:33 AM
Someone should tell him that we won the war, and there's no need for him to surrender...
2002-02-01 08:27:55 AM
I love it that this guy's last name is "Goudeaux". As in the play, 'Waiting For Godot'.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear that article is part of some bizarre French experimental theater....
2002-02-01 08:30:30 AM
Dinsdale! DINSDALE!
2002-02-01 08:32:23 AM
"Freedom of speech?"

Umm. I'm no expert of the law but I don't think I'm allowed to threaten people. He threatened us. Let's beat the merde out of him.
2002-02-01 08:38:48 AM
I just had another thought, rented Camry, a terrorism threatening, Frenchman? Did the cops check whether this dim bulb flew in from San Francisco earlier this week, and did they sniff his shoes??
2002-02-01 08:38:55 AM
Isn't Tom Green Canadian?
2002-02-01 08:42:36 AM
California=land of fruits and nuts
2002-02-01 08:42:54 AM
Nobody pulled him out of the car and beat the hell out of him? Boy, Sept 11th is fading fast. Come on Americans, our laws suck, but what happened to street justice?
2002-02-01 08:45:31 AM
Send him to a miltary base and see if he has the sack to carry his signs. We should strap him to a daisey cutter and drop his stupid FUKING ass at the next stop on our trip to end terrorism.
2002-02-01 08:48:59 AM
Aww... Pinhead, calm down. Wouldn't that in itself be terrorism?
2002-02-01 08:52:09 AM
Dumb ass French...never learn.

I agree with Pinhead....
2002-02-01 08:54:27 AM
And let the smug liberal competition begin!

Goatman off to an early lead.

"'Don't you think we're overreacting to everything that's happened since Sept. 11?,' said Steve Allardyce, 38, of La Verne, a laser technician prevented from visiting a Ventura Boulevard client.

Yes Steve, yes I do.
2002-02-01 09:01:38 AM
It's not like they locked him up in a nice safe jail cell..................
2002-02-01 09:02:11 AM
Man, I guess those 35-hour work-weeks and 2 month vacations readlly do leave you with too much time on your hands.
2002-02-01 09:04:24 AM
as world dictator, I have decided that the French and the Californians deserve each other. We need to empty France and California, and put all of their denizens together in saaaay Antartica. and thats all. Just need to keep them isolated, don't really care what happens after that. Though we could occasionally release dogs with bees flying out of their mouths and robotic richard simmons to see how they react.
2002-02-01 09:06:06 AM
He knows what he's doing. Look at the streets he's picking. If he tried that stunt in one of the more, er, industrial neighborhoods, he'd get capped in a heartbeat.
2002-02-01 09:07:55 AM
So he's an idiot... big deal.
2002-02-01 09:09:41 AM
Well, lessee Perrin...
Dogs with bees = pets
Robotic richard simmons = entertainment
French = food, if we could get 'em clean enough
2002-02-01 09:09:44 AM
i just coldcocked Perrin.

he was starting to abuse his power.
2002-02-01 09:11:54 AM
Bug: I thought we already determined that you cannot knock me out. I think you tried a half dozen times last time we did this.

Did somebody say Jihad?

Being an expert on California (I've seen World's Wildest Police Chases 1 - 5), I can state that this guy is lucky he didn't have his ass beat five ways from sunday.

NEWSFLASH: Message-board war about France breaks out. France surrenders!
2002-02-01 09:21:16 AM
Cock and ball torture for the Frenchman. Freedom of torture and all that.
2002-02-01 09:23:49 AM
In addition to "Jihad good," the man waved a "Bing-da-Bang Boom, Enjoy" placard accompanied by a smiley face, witnesses and police said. One sign in his rear window read "Surprise kaboom kaboom kaboom" next to a photo of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

LOL!! i cant be the only one who thinks this is funny as hell... and even better, they closed the street for hours cos of him.. hahahaha
2002-02-01 09:26:40 AM
Sheesh! Cry Baby Nation! WA! WA! WA! Scared of our freak'n
shadows. Hopefully someday our balls will grow back.
2002-02-01 09:29:34 AM
Stupid French. Yet another reason I don't like them. Oye
2002-02-01 09:34:15 AM
..and then he nailed my head to the floor.
(for Goatman)
2002-02-01 09:37:17 AM
And they make fun of AMERICAN tourists?

[image from images.salon.com too old to be available]

It is so sad to see that the French are starting to do stupid things.
2002-02-01 09:48:58 AM
Are we as a nation overreacting to everything since 9/11? Absolutely.

Does this guy deserve to go to jail? Absolutely.

The analogy in the article is exactly right. This is just like yelling fire in a crowded room. If you do that, it's not protected by freedom of speech. I mean, I personally think that "Bing-da-bang Boom, enjoy" is pretty farking funny, but it's really not acceptable, all things considered.
2002-02-01 09:52:26 AM
Ahh, the French. Still forgetting that if the Allies didn't intervene in that little war way back when, probably today they'd still be a suburb of Germany. Maybe after some citizens had cornered him (I wish he had been cornered ), he had been tortured by making him take a bath and forced to use underarm deoderant ! (Or else have him watch "Glitter" and "Slacker" nonstop 'till he cracks like an overripe melon !)
2002-02-01 09:53:59 AM
all you 'free speechers' and freako-california-nut-jobs think we east coasters are overreacting because you sat on your fruity arses during the 'tember 'leventh bs. While real men were dealing with crazy shiate on the east coast, you were hugging your trees and crying because your highway exits were now numbered.

last time i checked, 'freedom of speech' comes with certain restrictions. you can't create (to steal from Supreme Court Justice OWHolmes) a "clear and present danger" to society. That means you can't say something that is going to directly lead to people getting hurt. You can't yell 'OH MY GOD HE HAS A GUN' in a crowded stadium because the ensuing pandemonium is likely to cause injury.

How is driving down the street with bomb threats plastered all over your car and yelling a statement that implies a war against americans not creating a situation that presents a danger to those around him? what if there were car accidents as people fled from him?

the simple fact that he is french should get him castrated.
2002-02-01 09:55:28 AM
Laugh, I nearly crashed my ciggies!
2002-02-01 10:03:56 AM
No offense to all you paranoid Americans, but he didn't actually threaten anyone. The only thing he's guilty of is being stupid, and if that was a crime, three quarters of the world (conservative estimate) would be imprisoned for life.
2002-02-01 10:10:48 AM
2002-02-01 10:11:54 AM
Oh.. forgot to add:

2002-02-01 10:12:36 AM
This one really takes it! This guy should be charged with false alarm or inciting panic- this IS what he did, after all. As the article says, this is the same as yelling "fire" in a theatre. (yes, I'm American. But I think that "Theatre" is one word that should keep the British spelling!) At any rate, the guy is French. I wonder how hard it was to arrest him?

Police: Stop! You're un...(interrupted)

Crazy French Nutcase: Alright! Alright! Please don't shoot! I surrender! I'm French! You don't have to worry about me! I Surrender very easily!

Police: (to themselves) Hmm, boys, he's French. He wouldn't have the balls to have an actual bomb. check his car and let him go.
2002-02-01 10:17:00 AM
And in other news theatre critic arrested after telling friend that new musical will bomb.
2002-02-01 10:19:52 AM
Axess68, I have contacted the SS (Secret Service), and they are doing a tracert right now to locate you.
Fark is being evacuated for fear of bomb threat.
2002-02-01 10:22:26 AM
"Wow that party was a blast"

"Freeze evildoer!"
2002-02-01 10:24:59 AM
Good thing Good Times is off the air, JJ would be in big trouble.
2002-02-01 10:29:18 AM
and now my two cents...

First of all, and to the best of my knowledge, the rights guaranteed by the Constitution apply only to citizens and resident aliens...I don't think tourists are guaranteed anything by our Constitution...certainly not French ones.

Second, arguing free speech is absurd...forget about the "yelling fire" analogy...go to any airport in this country and before you go through the security screening, make a joke about hijacking the plane...or even say the word "hijack" within earshot of security personnel...and see what hilarity ensues...then try to argue "freedom of speech" and see how far that gets you. The officers that let this idiot go were morons. It doesn't matter whether or not he was actually threatening anyone, the fact is that his actions created a public disturbance...at the very least he should have been charged with that.

And finally on the subject of whether or not we're being "paranoid"...the definition of paranoia is "a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others"...given the events of the last few months, I don't consider it irrational to take some a$$hole driving around shouting "jihad" seriously. Now, I certainly don't believe in the philosophy of "zero tolerence", and some people do tend to overreact...but come one, this idiot deserves SOME kind of punishment...being born French isn't enough as far as I'm concerned.
2002-02-01 10:31:30 AM
Oh yes, Harmonia, your analogies are dead on. Some saying "That party was a blast" is equally non threatening as someone driving down the street, shouting praise for the Jihad, and putting a sign with one of America's most notorious bombers and the message "Surprise Kaboom Kaboom Kaboom." Thank god we have you, the very voice of reason.
2002-02-01 10:42:06 AM
Let's try to perspective on this for you Brits (I know you're not a Brit, Harmonia, but maybe this'll help you too). Take this same guy, put him on the streets of London. Now, replace the picture of Tim McVeigh with someone responsible for some major bombing(s), and imagine him shouting "IRA Forever". How do you suppose citizens and authorities in London would react?
2002-02-01 10:43:17 AM
Hey, here's a picture of the guy!

O.K, you can kick me!
