Not a comic book fan then or now.  But even I heard about how much the Spider-Man Clone saga sucked.

Between Bill Mantlo destroying Alpha Flight and the end of the Alien Symbiote story being completely shiat upon just so they could make Venom (one of the stupidest of the 90's Edgy characters in Marvel history) I had already given up on cape comics by the time Marvel stunk things up with the clone saga, but I had heard plenty about it from friends who still read superhero comics.

Now I see Marvel is copying DC's "Let's make everyone have bat-themed powers" but making it spider-themed powers instead.

Which is worse, Clone Saga or Brand New Day?

Which might be like asking which is worse, Ebola or smallpox. . .

I've never read the comics but I watched the cartoons growing up and I really like most of the Marvel movies.

I watched a clip of the Cap. America Civil War and in the comments section they were nerding out about how Spiderman was told to keep his distance but went out of his way to get into a fist fight with Falcon and Winter Soldier and pretty much held his own solo.
Apparently Spiderman would be considered on of the strongest of Avengers/Marvel heros but he holds back big time cuz he's a kid and afraid to haul off full strength because be doesn't want to hurt people.
That true? Is teenager Spiderman actually that over the top strong, like Thor level strength but nerfs himself so he keeps a clean conscious?

Like most heroes, it varies by writer and/or demands of the story.  He's been shown as capable of throwing full-size cars with ease. Falcon and Winter Soldier aren't very strong (in the MCU at least) so Spidey should be more than a match for them.

Also, remember in Infinity War when Iron Man was getting his arse handed to him by Cull Obsidian and Spidey was like, "O hai, man. What's this guy's deal?"

I liked the clone saga, the age of apocalypse, most of the crisis reboots, the goddamned Batman reboot ... I remember showing my 7 year daughter how crazy Batman was acting, and he told Robin to eat rats to survive. This was around the time Batman the Animated Series and Justice League still premiered a new episode once a week.

Anyway, it's all just entertaining, over the top stories. It's a man with "spider powers" like "spider sense" and he can shoot webs out of his butt ... Oh wait  ... But oh no the story is ruined because he might have been a clone. Oh noooooo. Who knows? Oh noooooo.

You know he's a 50 year old teenager, right?

In Superior Spiderman, Doc Ock in control of Peter's body punches Scorpion's? Head off with ease and is shocked at just how Pete was toying with hin

Who then becomes yet another Carrion, and proceeds to embark on a campaign to destroy the city because Deadpool won't follow him on Twitter due to a misunderstanding involving heretical time-priests of Saman-dur.  It's good to see someone else paying attention to the plot - it's simple enough/

Then proceed to "cull the herd" because only the headliner matters. That happens far too often when they complain that the side characters develop a fan base that starts eating into the original character.

Just think, Maximum Carnage was a stupid story line with some of the worst artwork ever put on a Marvel page, but it makes those three storylines look like War and Peace. It was dumb and poorly thought out, but at least it had a beginning, middle and end..

Spiderman is so inconsistent they always list him at around 10 tons but he would have to be in that 50-100 range

All they needed to do was have Aunt May tell Peter she knew he was Spiderman all along and that it was time for her to go.  Then it becomes one of the best stories in Spiderman history because the last part of his pre superhero days is gone and it's time to make his future(ie, knock up Mary Jane).  But no, had to cancel the last twenty years of character growth.

Beats me, since he is durable as all hell, and can bend time and space while shooting kirby bolts out his rear end. I think is based on feats of strength alone, like who can bench press an office building, or something.

The second speech bubble in the top panel specifies it's based on "physical strength" instead of "total power."
