Clearly, because you need to distract the gator with SOMETHING to chew on if it gets too close. That Michael Kors wallet was damn expensive.

I for one think this is excellent parenting. For the rest of that kids life she can say,

"Do as your told kid, you remember the gators."

Apparently she told the kid not to follow her yelled at him when and he did, AND she apologized to everyone.

That's not very Karen at all.

"Sources close to the wildlife park tell us staffers did not know about the incident until the video started going viral, and park honchos are very disturbed. We're told the zoo wants to press charges against the woman for child endangerment, if she's identified."

Oh internet lawyering...never gets old

Parents in that town need to pay attention to this story. That way, in 10 years, they'll know what teenager their kids are buying drugs from.

The video shows the guest space as a platform raised above the gator pit, meaning you can look down from above at the animals directly below you on all sides if they happen to be there.  She was probably leaning on the railing and got her wallet out for whatever reason and it slipped or got knocked out of her hands and fell into the pit.  It looked like a gator had it in its mouth, which is why I'm assuming she jumped in instead of calling the staff.

I worked in a zoo with basically the same setup, and people dropping stuff into the exhibit was a multiple times per day occurrence -- wallets, keys, smartphones, baby accessories, sunglasses.  *Everyone* leans on the railing and of those many keep carrying on as usual as if they don't have a 10ft drop below their hands and chest.  I'm honestly amazed no one ever dropped their infant or toddler in.  Anyhow, the staff were always happy(ish) to help, especially with things where the animals might be interested in eating the lost item.  Saves them a trip to the vet.

True. But then she should have thrown the kid to the other side to not only distract them but also place a little distance in there

Did your zoo have some sort of a net on a pole? I am betting that that is probably a common item to have at a zoo.

Yeah -- although the water for our exhibit wasn't murky and the surface was painted a light color so we could see things.  We'd just throw on wet suit overalls and boots and slide things out with our feet.

HAHA, Got a CSB for this Joe Dirt clip.

I coach with the little fat kid that asks "Hey, what's rule 3?"  He use to live in California and he and his brother went to the set to be extras.  The kid that was originally picked for those lines was screwing it up over and over.  So I guess they had an open tryout and he got the nod.  He said every now and then he gets a very small residual check in the mail.

BTW, He currently looks like a larger version of that little chubby kid!  It is fun to tell people we work with a celebrity!

The fake grain on the sides of the video is awful, almost as bad as the travesty that is vertical video.

Facebook did vertical video well, their thing basically cut the video in twain and filled in the black space with a heavily blurred instance of it on either side, so it flowed well but wasn't distracting.

Phones should have a horizontal video setting. "I like to hold my phone vertical when recording but want the videos still shot horizontal unless I tell you otherwise"

I am a problem solver.  As such:  All people who go over gator pits like this should be required to be completely nude.  Unless you keep your wallet in your prison pocket, if you are completely nude you can't drop your wallet in the pond, unless on purpose.  And if you drop the wallet on purpose, you should be required to go into the pit with your spawn to retrieve the wallet.  And the big gators should be released into the pit before your nude retrieval attempt.  Make it sporting.  Not just small gators like in the vid.  We need the chance of total carnage.  Of Darwin winning for once.  We need blood for the blood god.

Or, if you try to take a vertical video, a little slot opens and fires bees into your mouth.

Sorry I have to take a moment and point out that what you have written indicates that your brain does seem to have a rather fecal nature to it.
There were no other children observed in the alligator enclosure. In fact, the only child who was observed in danger in that enclosure was this lady's child. And the time at which he was observed there, in the alligator pit, being in danger --- coincidentally happened to be on the same day and same time as his mother entered the alligator pit. This may be news to you, but some children will follow their parents around when they are in public places. They may repeat the actions of their parents. They may not be held responsible for failing to "listen to responsible mom's authority".

Those TMZ guys must be pretty jaded.  A little kid at the end clearly says "It happens." TMZ adds "sh" to the start. Now as for the kid saying "it happens," I've got to wonder what her home life is like if she thinks climbing into a gator pit is a walk in the park.
