Listening to the Cure always made me sad...what a shiat band, dunno how they ever got any airplay.
I guess back in the eighties the Goth kids needed something ridiculous to listen to that also matched their outfits...

That's okay.  I don't think I could tell the Cure from the Smiths.  Certainly not from listening.

/I would recognize Robert Smith due to South Park and him fighting Mecha-Streisand, however.

The Cure are a top-10 favorite band for me. Sometimes a good cry is just what a person needs.

They have had an incredible career from both an artistic output and longevity standpoint. I saw them a few years ago and they played for 4 hours with 3 encores and sounded farking amazing, especially since adding Reeves Gabrels on guitar.

If you are a true music fan, check this out - it's them live at the Sydney Opera House last year playing every song associated with their album Disintegration. This is a band that has mastered its craft.

well I was bound to upset someone before coffee.

Nah. Not upset. Just pointing out that I think they're in a class of bands that are very good at what they do and, even if a person doesn't enjoy their music, they should still try to respect them for their obvious accomplishments. Like me with Rush, Eric Clapton, or Bruce Springsteen.

Counterpoint - They had a really strong series of albums going from the mid 80's to about 1990.  Broadened their sound and really grew as musicians

Did you mean J.J. Cale, or are you referring to that one song Eric Clapton actually wrote?
