Thoughts and prayers

/Really this time
//Hang on!

2020-07-17 1:15:40 PM
Man... I hope she hangs in and holds on.  That said... if this goes south, she needs to be hooked up to every machine that her hospital and any nearby ones have to offer.  I'm willing to spend any amount of time from now until January 2021 debating about the definition of the word "dead" if you have to.

2020-07-17 1:17:26 PM
I'd miss my liver but she needs it more at this point.

Don't pretend that McConnell wouldn't manage a 3 day confirmation if there was a SCOTUS opening in middle January.

Does it bother anyone else that her death would likely lead to people taking to the streets.

That just doesn't sound like a healthy situation to find yourself in as a country.

Morbid but does she have to make it to November or January?

2020-07-17 1:32:33 PM
Looking at that summary of her medical history it suggests that she is surviving by good DNA and looking after her personal health for decades. Those cancers would normally have taken out a similar aged person years ago. Having a ductal stent removed/replaced is no small thing for a younger person, let alone an 87 yr. old.
I think that she is also acutely aware of her tenuous position on SCOTUS, but she strikes me as a very relaxed and confident person and this mindset helps tremendously in survivability. I hope that she will be able to serve as long as possible, even after Jan 2021. God speed RBG!

Relentless beatings.

That's how I'll remember 2020.

Six months, or four years and six months. A lame duck Senate can still ram through a troglodyte replacement.

If Dems don't win the Senate but Biden wins: January 20, 2021

In the second scenario we would have only 8 Justices until a Republican wins the presidency again or Democrats gain the Senate. McConnell would say the American people deserve to choose a president to name her replacement because Biden didn't obtain a mandate.

2020-07-17 1:48:32 PM
Hopefully she hangs on so she can spit in Trump's eye at Biden's inauguration.

I'm surprised that Mitch McConnell hasn't already released a statement that "RBG is no longer able to perform her duties as a SCJ so we are now going to remove her and replace her.  Oh, and BTW, we might as well do the same with all of the other left and center leaning justices."

2020-07-17 1:49:38 PM
should have retired 11 years ago, we wouldn't have this problem

I can only imagine what Trump would say.

I hope someone has Miracle Max on speed dial, just in case. Seriously, put her in a medically induced coma or cryogenic chamber if that's what's required. The good news is that I think spite will keep her alive as long as necessary.

Republicans still need to win areas that aren't packed to the gills with Trump cultists, like Sen. Romney.

January. Even if Biden wins, B*tch McTurtle wouldn't hesitate to lame-duck ramrod in the most batsh*t rabid Trumpian candidate he has on the list between Nov-Dec, just for spite.

If a justice dropped dead during the swearing in ceremony, McConnell would be dragging the closest person in a MAGA hat onto the stage and asking for a show of hands.

Yeah, it'd be a real shame if RGB's cognitive faculties declined to the point she was on par with Thomas.

Beerbro may also have a brownie.
He just seems like he needs one.

Because we are in the awful timeline, I'm sure McConnell will have her replacement appointed in time for them to uphold Trump revoking the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts via tweet.

January.

January 20th 12:01PM Easter. Make no mistake, #MoscowMitch and Trump have a list and will start the process the picosecond she's incapacitated/dead. Should she be incapacitated/dead on January 20th at 11:59 and 59 seconds AM they'll be holding a vote on whatever justice Trumplethinskin nominated before Biden was sworn into office.

I think at this point the Democrats need to start considering every possible scenario for delaying any sleazy tactic by McConnell...I wouldn't put it past him to try to push through another appointment to the bench even if RBG says she's fine...he might try it anyway under some half-assed 'diminished capacity' argument.

ElwoodCuse: should have retired 11 years ago, we wouldn't have this problem

Question: should Breyer retire in January if Biden wins and there is a Democratic majority? Kagan? Sotomayor?

In a healthy democracy half the Supreme Court doesn't need to be replaced with 35 year olds with reliable voting records every 4-8 years, with only the freak car crash changing the court makeup. Was Thomas and Alito refusing to resign for Trump a sucker's move?
