"If people can't see them, they forget that they exist."

And damned if they're hoping advertisers have goldfish memories.

Not that I doubt that "vacation" is a euphemism, but given how many anchors there are, how often they get into trouble, and that they do occasionally take vacations, finding a handful of situations in which they coincide is not really surprising

This is literally what Trump has been saying about COVID for months.

Suggestive, but this needs more data.

How often in the same timeframe did hosts go on vacation for all reasons?
How often in the same time frame were there incidents prompting correspondingly widespread accusations of racism?

Also potentially useful: how often do hosts announce vacations in advance?

I wonder if the travel agency that services Fox News has protocols for totally planned sudden one-week vacations.  "Hello Tucker, we were expecting your call.  I assume you'll be wanting the O'Reilly package?"

The Tucker thing has been burning especially hot for a few weeks now.  And you can see the other folks on other stations like MSNBC with their own shows taking vacations.  It's that time of year.

I detest Tucker and wish karma would get its act together there.  But this doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me.

I'm supportive of Ailes permanent vacation.

I don't get it. It's not like we don't know they are racists, and it's the reason their viewers tune in.

Oooh, yes. Good point.

Also fair; it's probably worth checking the historical timing of vacations for the particular hosts.

They're just SO upset by all the racism that they have to take some time to process it all.

I'm sure the privileged and entitled prep-school trained son of an ambassador and heir to a frozen food fortune can manage something.  Maybe they have the The Protocols of the Elders of Zion on Kindle.

They should be fired instead of being treated with vacations.

IIRC, Carlson and Ingraham haven't really recovered from the ad boycotts. Most of their ad time is for MyPillow and Fox itself.

// probably Goya too in the coming weeks
// "thank you for buying our free-joles! enjoy them in your tack-os for your next 'ethnic' food night!"

Nothing says "planned vacation" lilke when a highly paid and popular tv host leaves on a Tuesday.

I mean, it isn't like a really rich person could schedule their fishing trip to start on any day they want.  Tuesday makes total sense!

2020-07-16 10:15:14 AM
My guess is they are too stupid to not make things worse when the scandal comes up. Carlson is the type that would probably say things that are worse than what his head writer posted. The people making decisions at Fox know it's their safest and best play.

I'm just looking forward to Hannity's extended vacation after details of his divorce come out. His picture looks like it's out of one of those salon books that you find a haircut in. "Yes, can you give me the 'domestic abuser', but not so much 'pedophile'."  "Oh you want the Hannity, and not the Gaetz, say no more!"

2020-07-16 10:20:36 AM
When I plan a vacation, I often work ahead so there's less to do when I get back. Maybe the Fox hosts are doubling up the racism before vacation to hold their audience.

2020-07-16 10:20:58 AM
Then problem isn't that they go on vacation, but that they return.

Fox News "going on vacation" needs to include Breaking Bad's "..to Belize."

Or better yet, "let's see, too bad you did not say something awful and racist last month, we had a great deal on pre-packaged Caribbean Resort Vacations.  This week all we can offer you is fly fishing out west, or a stay in Branson, Missouri.  I know they both sound awful.  Look I really suggest Branson, because you can look at getting some lounge work there if things don't work out back here.  What do you mean you would rather shoot yourself?  Okay, where there is also a week long package for the Creationist Museum...okay so fly fishing it is.  You will like it, Judge Scalia used to go to this resort all the time.   Why yes, it is next door to a pay by the hour motel?  How did you know that?  I don't know if they offer daycare services for your kids while you party with hookers."

2020-07-16 10:29:00 AM
Let's correlate that to incoming call volume from advertisers

These guys and gals peddle insane conspiracies based on thin coincidences. The idea of using rational skepticism to help them seems in poor taste. It's like the evolution/antibiotics comic. "Depends, do you believe that coincidence always implies a conspiracy? Sorry then, I can't help you."

Sean Hannity went on vacation when he wouldn't lay off the Seth Rich conspiracy theories.

Laura Ingraham went on vacation after an exodus of advertisers fled when she made fun of David Hogg.

Tucker Carlson previously had to go on vacation when he commented how immigrants were "unclean".

Sudden vacations don't always coincide with racism, but they sure do go hand in hand with Fox "News" want to wait out bad press until it dies down.

Aside from such abrupt vacations, what other criteria indicate times that Fox "News" wants to wait out bad press until it dies down?

I'm beginning to think these Fox News hosts are nothing but a bunch of liars.

But if you are always racist, then is not every vacation simply waiting out bad press?
