(CNN)   French healthcare workers collectively bargain for $9 billion in pay raises. For the Americans, collective bargaining is a negotiation between an employer and a labor union usually on wages, hours, and working conditions. You should try it some time   (cnn.com) divider line

Americans are too busy making $7.25/ hr, while self identifying, and voting with white billionaires and millionaires, to negotiate a living wage.

We tried it.  And then the people getting $5/hr were convinced by people making $50,000/hr that the people getting $12/hr were overpaid.

Oh, we Americans know about unions. Trust us to take a good idea like that and turn it into its most perverse form: the police union.

Not enough smarts, this is what's wrong with the US. Those making nothing, don't know why some people are making a little more than nothing, for what appears to be the same physical exertion.

Wait, labor unions good now?

Worked for a union (UAW) and they protect useless employees as long as they (Union) gets their cut.

The UAW upper management is corrupt and in the pockets of the auto companies.

Yes, we need unions. We need them to be protected from that sort of crap, too.
I was reading, yesterday, about how union members are so fed up with the UAW that they are forming their own safety committees. People are pissed.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. "The union is just protectin' the lazy ones (usually blacks), I'm the only one in this here workplace genetically gifted with a Dutch Protestant (throw in any stupid white descriptor here) work ethic! Everybody here, who ain't also Dutch Protestant is stealin' that $5/hr." Every conservative I've met on a job, is convinced he's the only one actually working for a living. It would be comical if it wasn't so infuriating.

Can't have your 1%'er wealth curve go asymptotic if you do that. And without an asymptotic wealth curve, the economy will fail.

So, getting more pay but having to kick some over to the guys who helped you get more pay is less preferable to getting less pay so the owner can buy their fifth yacht.  Yeah, no wonder people laugh at American math skills.

There are Healthcare unions out there. But they bargain by the hundreds, where the French are apparently all under a much larger umbrella. Good for them.

I was taught in school that unions exist due to poor management. So I gather the reason we don't have more of them is because management at the vast majority of companies is excellent.

They figured out if they just convinced the idiots the middle men they COULD SEE were the problem,
instead of the ppl at the top THEY NEVER SEE that decided to increase their take 10,000%,

Well those blue collar idiots would scream all day at the visible threat because most blue collar workers barely have a grasp on object permanence.

As conservatism has PROVEN:

you can halve his employment opportunities,
make everything in his life cost 2x as much,
remove all legal protections and benefits,
but then give him an extra 2% off on his federal taxes next year, (projected, lol, winkwink) and he'll walk away thinking he's making out like a bandit

Americans completely understand what the consequences of either British disease or French disease are.

We watched our automobile industry go under in many companies and go on life support for the remnants, all from a blend of British disease and French disease.

The nurses in my state are unionized.  They typically go on strike for better working conditions and hours before wages.
