I put a down payment on a Cybertruck already.  You're going to feel pretty stupid when you're driving around in some boring nerd car, and I'm zooming around in my expensive supertruck.  Jealous?

14 million really isn't that much for 1.1 billion in investment (devil's in the details of what this "investment" actually means, I know). I applaud the county for showing restraint and stopping their tongues at the taint. On the other hand, these deals can be and are often altered after the cheery headlines fade so that the investment is lowered and the incentives are increased. Will be interesting to watch it develop over the next few years, I guess.

it's illegal for Tesla to sell cars in Texas, so I doubt Tesla will be building anything in Texas.  They are following Amazon's ploy in attempting to play cities against each other to extract the biggest tax payer subsidies.

Several years ago the city of Fort Worth gave American Airlines a huge property tax break for building a maintenance base at Alliance airport ( since closed ).

When it was pointed out that Fort Worth at the time did not provide sewage and water services to 'certain' areas of the city because it was too expense and couldn't the taxes from American Airlines pay for such services, cities leaders responded with 🤷🏻♂.

I'm excited, but I may end up in a Model Y. I think it will probably be 2025 before the Cybertruck comes to Japan, and there are at least 3 places on my commute where I'd have to back up like 500 feet if another car came. Really want that Cybertruck for weekend projects and farm stuff though. And a solar tonneau cover? Yes-farkin'-please

I really hope they are here sooner than 2025 and that you can get one.
The Tesla dealer near me says the ATV will be available to order with the truck when you get to the point of picking your final options and will be 1/2 price if ordered with the truck.
The ATV is 100% electric and they will put a charging port in the bed of the truck for it.

I'm so excited!!!

I bet they'll be in America well before then. But Tesla is always slow to make RHD vehicles. We still can't even reserve the Model Y over here. Cybertruck reservations seem to be down now, so I think mine was some kind of mistake :/ When you get yours let us know all about it. You don't even have it yet and I'm jealous.

If I cared what people think about my phone it wouldn't be going on 5 years old and it wouldn't have visible baby slobber in the case.

When I ordered the Cybertruck I picked the tri-motor but ended up with the single motor version. A few days later I was able to go back in and pick the right one. They do struggle with order volume and access sometimes.

Also, you might be able to get an orphan. I've ordered other vehicles online and have been able to get what I want sooner because someone ahead of me in line with the same one backed out.
In any case, I'm sure you'll be able to get one soon. No need to be jealous just yet. :-)

I'm okay with tax breaks for companies, but they should be available to all companies, not just multi-billion dollar companies that don't really need it. Small businesses should get the bulk of breaks especially if you want to promote job creation.

1500 jobs in one factory of one company is not as robust or useful as 10,000 jobs for 1,000 companies in various industries and services. Give the masses a break for once.

The difference is trivial whether given now or taken from the future payments.
And bribing companies to bring in jobs is a losing proposition, every time. What will they do when the free ride ends, or another locality offers a bigger bribe?

Tax breaks and subsidies should be very nearly illegal for non-persons such as publically traded corporations.

If that was actually the difference I would agree with you.  This is akin to a corporation making a decision between which vendor they will select for their purchase.  They are allowed to shop around and even bargain with the competing vendors to get their desired price.  Ultimately, the vendor is free to accept or reject offers on the basis of their own interests.

Tax breaks and subsidies should be very nearly illegal for non-persons such as publically traded corporations.

Tax breaks and subsidies should be very closely scrutinized and audited within an inch of their life to ensure that are made with the intentions of benefiting the State and County and conform to acceptable risk parameters.  But ultimately, if subsidies are a method employed by some states to compete for business, those states should be allowed to do so.

You get up to actual layers of baby slobber from times you can identify, you need to give it a bath though.  Gotta have some standards.
