"We have a GPS in there so I know if it's moved," he said."

So apart from all the other unlikeliness, we're supposed to believe that each cache has a GPS system with a battery which lasts months broadcasting its position.

Yeah. Right. Whatever.

I had only ever seen that movie on old 4:3 tv sets, in the pan and scan or cropped format they used. I recently watched it on Youtube in 720p widescreen, it's in their free movies section. What a difference!

It's gonna suck for him when Whitmer's next closure order specifically prohibits treasure hunts.

I wonder where the alerts go to. Phone or email probably? So Metasploit/pay someone online/stalk the guy in real life and wait for physical access to the device/bribe someone at the phone company to get access the actual phone number on a device you have. Idk, I haven't thought the plan all the way out, but it's a start lol.

John made the wedding rings for me and the missus. I haven't had much contact with him lately, but he saved my butt on many anniversaries when I'd call him up with the horror of having forgotten the date in my voice, and he'd have some kind of cool piece of custom jewelry waiting for me a few hours later. I don't know what this is all about, but unless he's done some kind of 180 change in his life, I don't think it's a scam.

The Googles Do Nothing: Never trust a jeweler or a realtor.

I thought it was "Never trust a man with two first names."

Also, "Never eat spinach with a stranger."

/Real Michiganders will get the second one...

Also also, the real treasure is the friends you make along the way...

A clever scam. He can't sell his jewelry, but he can sell raffle tickets to treasure hunters and keep the jewelry for when the market improves.

I kind of love the idea of real.  There was an eccentric millionaire who did something similar and turned out to be real.  Though he didn't sell tickets to it.

How quickly will the clues be on line for all to see?

"Well, lookie what I stumbled across without paying for the raffle"

Yeah, it's funny when you watch old movies with proper resolution and theatrical quality how much more competent they seem. I watched movies I had only seen on crappy vhs and when it was actually displayed properly it actually made the movie better

This smells of a scam to me, that said some will bite on it.  I could even see the first one with the $49 one be ligeit as bait to make later ones  with bigger buy ins seem more legit .

And what if someone simply finds it? Can he really stop them?
