Stop calling it the Green New Deal and start calling it Survival.

And we also have spent the same amount on Trumps covid disaster as it would cost.

We have hundreds of thousands of jobs - over 250,000 jobs would be lost, under Joe Biden's Green New Deal energy plan.

Can't they just "try something new"?

Biden is talking about jerbs under the Green New Deal and he's absolutely right.  There's so much to do.  Think of it as technical debt we're now paying off.   Letting the oil industry and other big extractors keep us in the early 80's from a power perspective has cost us now.

Fixing it will be expensive but will mean economic activity.  Enormous economic activity.

Biden needs to change his message on the carbon neutral energy. Instead of being "Green" and "Environment Friendly", he should phrase it as "Giving Farmers the Ability to Grow Their Own Electricity".

Every dollar we spend on oil is a dollar that (usually) goes out of the country. Homegrown electricity keeps our money here, and enables rugged individualist types to create their own energy in their backyards without having to depend on that gol'durn government.

Middle America should be THRILLED about this. Especially since they are in a unique position to take advantage of wind energy. Biden should paint a picture where the US exports electricity, call us the "Generator of the World". Think of it as a dog whistle for environmentalists.

Shouldn't these cut-throat capitalist Republicans be supportive of disruptive and competitive forces?

One thing that has really chapped my as is the constant railing against a part of the "green new deal" by many on the right, especially hannity. That part was eliminating the internal combustion engine. As if it was kind of gift from the gods. Now, while I think the timeline was too short ( if memory serves, the plan was by 2030 ) to be practical for *all applications* of it's use, as its a rather complicated problem to solve, I think it is a step in the right direction.
But it seems that the right loves to spend too much money and time smelling petrol fumes, and loves to have to deal with spills of it and oil leak avoidance, not to mention panhandlers /drunks / other bad smells at a petrol station .
Even Royal Dutch Shell and BP have seen the future is less and less an finally zero pumps- the money will lie in quick chargers ( and we of course will pay far too much for that ) and amenities inside, like a sausage on a bun or a cup of coffee, etcetera.

GIve me a roughneck willing to learn and relocate, and I can show him or her a real future in pipefitting for water delivery, or building solar farms / learning to be a lineman so that electricity can get to the grid.

Oil is not a damn infinite resource. It is just like Helium - we only have so much on the planet.
So lets keep it - okay, both , for things we have not even thought of yet. SO lets get the hell off of petroleum as much as possible, and forget about balloon bouquets.

Oh, and the right really seems to hate cleaner air- imagine a world like it was post 911, when the air was rather clean for a while .....

During the last election, the Rs screamed at Clinton that it was elitist and tone-deaf to tell coal miners to get new farking jobs - that they had money put aside for retraining. Now we have Ivanka purring that everyone needs to "try something new."

I got an advanced degree in a dying field. That's on me. You know what I do when my contracts end? I move and I get a new job in a different industry. That's also on me. I have five different retirement accounts and I'm fast and mean and capable. I don't give a shiat about the voters who are openly declaring that they are too farking stupid and lazy to be retrained.

Isn't this the same plan that would supposedly create millions of new jobs? Sounds a lot like stagecoach drivers complaining about how many jobs the automobile is going to cost.

I may not be a fancy mathologist, but 250,000 is much fewer than 20,000,000.

Renewables is the only chance of actually lowering energy costs. And the economic benefits in totality will be much higher than the job losses. It's not like it's going to happen overnight, anyway.

It's pretty farking obvious to anyone who knows anything about energy, that there's an entire civilization shifting change coming. Neither wind or solar is anywhere close to how cost efficient or in winds case, productive, as they will be in the next 10-15 years. Our energy system is about 10 steps out of the farking Stone Age. The US would be 50% renewable electricity by 2030, even if idiots dug their heels in. Or we can lean into it and be innovators, take advantage, reap the rewards.

We also need to be directing funding + research into energy efficiency, installs + innovation, as well as interface engineering + heterostructures for things like catalysts, electrolyzers, separation processes, etc.

Hey how much does the economy benefit by directly injecting $$ back into people's pockets, if you lower the cost of electricity across the country and then as EVs get cheaper, we actually adopt them? *bongrip* A farkin' shiatload bruh.

That's the cost of Bidens plan over 10 years.
Trump spent more than that in just one.

The US? About a decade behind the rest of the world in renewables, microgrids, and fast charger capacity.

Why? Because 'American Exceptionalism' is 'Everyone needs to change, advance, progress, be responsible, Except Me'

Biden unveiled his ambitious plan to make electricity generation carbon-free by 2035 on Tuesday.

By 2035 on Tuesday?  That's not bad, it's a long day but still early enough for a late dinner and a couple drinks, which you would deserve if you got rid of fossil fuels.  Wait a minute, today is Tuesday!  He means the Tuesday after inauguration, right?

No, because it's illegal.

Turns our they could have, because I guess the President is above the law.
