(The Daily Beast)   While DeSantis continues to insit that everything is FINE, a CEO of a local hospital was less optimistic: "Our ICU capacity is beyond 100 percent." Just to be "that guy", how do you operate at "beyond 100% capacity"? Is it a case like on Star Trek where Scotty would understate the power of the engines or give a longer than needed repair time estimate just to look like a genius when he does a 6 hour repair in 2 or "Captain, we are already at 105% output, if we give her much more she's gonna blow!".

Either jamming more people in the existing ICU space or they made other wards into temporary ICUs.

Or, like rockets, they called 100% the design limit but through testing and use have determined the actual capacity and never updated the original limit.

shiat is really gonna hit the fan when the pandemic reaches the Florida Panhandle. The state has ignored that region for decades. A few hospitals that don't have enough ICU beds, PPE, medical equipment, and medicine. They are so screwed. But Florida has been voting for the GOP for years.

Characterizing the surge of COVID-19 new cases as a "blip," the Republican also noted that Florida has had "a lot of different blips."

"We're now at a higher blip than where we were in May and the beginning of June," he added.

They vote republican because the democrats put forward the worst candidates alive.  For god's sake, Gillum was found passed out naked at a gay prostitute drug orgy.  And before that he had left a gross trail of corruption from his limited time in Tallahassee.  I mean, if you're going to accept bribes then for the love of god don't do it in such a public and easily traceable way.  Have some god darned tact for crying out loud.

When they need to use the hallways, shift into makeshift facilities like tents, or shut down other wards to try to make them suitable to expand capacity for the ICU.

It is totally a blip.  See when the daily average is 8k to 10k a day, 15k is a blip.

The problem is that the baseline is horrific.

Just wait until that 8k to 10k a day start dying.

They're converting similar treatment spaces (cath rooms, surgical suites, etc.) into ICU space. Most hospitals have plans for this, which is represented as surge capacity. If they're beyond 100% they're using that surge capacity.

Let me repeat that for the cheap seats. DeWine has a county pandemic rating system. When asked to explain what Ohioans in purple counties (level 4 out of 4) should be doing to protect themselves versus Ohioans in red counties (level 3 out of 4) where masks are mandatory, DeWine's response was, "use your own judgment".

Sweet leadership DeWine.

American deaths don't matter to DeSantis or any Republican. All that matters are corporate profits and pretending things are 'normal' so Republicans have more than a snowball's chance in Hell of winning in November.

So they'll let Disney stay open. They'll refuse to issue mask and stay-at-home orders. They won't pay people to stay home which is the most sensible course of action. And they'll open schools.

Because to Republicans, you are disposable. Your life is theirs to play with, and if you die, so be it.

I think he backed down when the state Senators and Reps started snapping back at him for being a "dictator". Instead of standing his ground, he let himself be bullied by his own party for the sake of showing party unity.

Here's an example:

Crazy a-hole politician Nino Vitale tells people to stop getting tested, says he's tired of living in a dictatorship, and says he's darker than the Ohio Black Caucus members.

When DeWine is asked about Vitale, he calls him "my good friend".
