There's only 135,000 dead

Is not something to brag about.

And I agree with other comments, he didn't address the question at all..just tooted his own horn again.

F*ck Trump

We created a new Committee of Congress to investigate 4 dead Americans when we thought it'd hurt Hillary. We went to war for 20 years to avenge 3,000 dead Americans. Now we're supposed to ignore 138k dead Americans so dipshiat can get reelected??? F*ck. This. Monster.

Screw the kids, my wife is a teacher here in California in a district that hasn't made up its mind yet in regards to online instruction in the Fall. She doesn't feel it's worth the risk to be exposed to all those mobile disease vectors in the classroom and is going to be resigning (with my full support) and looking for work in a district that will be online only until a vaccine is available. If she can't find work then so be it, things will be tight but at least we will be healthy and alive.

Less than 5% of the world's population. 26.3% of confirmed cases, worldwide. 24.0% of deaths, worldwide.

In a country that cared more about its people, Trump would have been impeached, convicted, and imprisoned for negligence so profound that it endangered national security.

Instead, this asshole's begging for praise as he wheels back the goalposts & pats himself on the back, with the GOP happily supporting his efforts to sicken & kill as many Americans as possible.

My son is an adult with autism and works for a school district in PA in the cafeteria.

It is, literally, the BEST part time job and what he was trained to do post high school in a program called OPTIONS.

Most school districts in PA outsource their cafeteria services, but the one he works for does not. This makes him a state employee, which makes him eligible for the same exact pension plan the teachers have.

He's in a union as well and they have gone to bat for their members multiple times in the 7+ years he's worked there. I am scared to death he's going to lose this awesome job that is so perfect for him. Not to mention with me being disabled now and unable to work, we need the money. We can't make it on my funds alone.

We're scared and we have no idea what's going to happen so we're stressed as well. I don't want him around the kids, obviously, since their hands are mini petri dishes and he could bring covid19 home, where i'd be sure to catch it.

His bargaining agreement doesn't allow for him to collect unemployment during the 90 day summer recess, but I have no idea if he'd be allowed to apply if he was furloughed or left go. Scary times indeed ☹ I guess tomorrow I should contact the union now that it's only 6 weeks away from his normal start date. I hate this timeline so much.

To be fair, he has a point - yes, the Lincoln Project is saying some pretty agreeable things right now regarding COVID-19, but we shouldn't forget that they're the proverbial "enemy of my enemy," and not our friends.

Jennifer Horn supported the RNC's efforts to boycott CNN & NBC because of their work with Clinton. Rick Wilson smeared Max Cleland, tying him to OBL & Saddam Hussein. John Weaver was McCain's boy, and backed Romney & Kasich. Steve Schmidt is why we were saddled with Sarah Palin.

They're not here to help you. They're here to help themselves, and the fact that they, too, need Trump out of office to do that doesn't somehow absolve them of the fact that they're lifelong Republican supporters and backed all the shiat you saw from Dubya & McCain.

"What do you tell parents who ... are worried about the safety of their children in public schools?"

"The schools should be open."

It's such a softball question for anyone with a heart. Remember what it was like to have a president who acted like one?

Without even doing or promising anything, he could have said:

"Well, I would encourage parents to contact their child's school district about what safety measures will be in place, just so they can have the information and make the choices they need to for their family. I know districts across the country are taking this very seriously and doing everything they can to keep students safe and ensure they get the education they need.

"At the federal level, the CDC has published guidelines to help schools, but a lot of decisions have to be made at the state and district level, and a lot of those decisions are still being made."

He's a shockingly bad politician for someone in his position.

I'm in FL and maybe I'm seeing things, but I swear every time I go into a business with my mask on and there's a red neck dummy in there, no mask, yell-talking to everyone. They seem to always give me this smug smirk when they notice the mask, like I'm some meek sheep idiot and they know what's really going on. Happened just today with a Cletus at RaceTrak. Gave me that look then bought a carton of cigs. My coworker who has been a chain smoker for 40 years (and still is) says wearing a mask is bad for you because you breathe back in the CO2 youre breathing out.

The mask is to protect *you* from me, and me from *you* if one of us had the virus but showed no symptoms, so by not wearing one, they literally become plague rats who dont care they're spreading disease. Trumpism is the worst thing to happen to this country in my lifetime.

I'm in the exact same situation, only Florida, and private school, and they just announced they'll be opening (even if the county public schools don't) and she'd have to teach in person.

Mandatory masks for teachers, not for kids. Her and 15 six year olds in a room barely 20x25.

Bonus: they didn't consult with the teachers on any of these plans before they announced them.

New job it is.

Anyone know if we can sue them for some kind of reckless endangerment for making her choose between quitting her job and definitely getting sick, possibly dying?

Buzzed or not, that's the gist of it. The problem is that they can't get their folks in place if Trump keeps installing his own folks, so they're hoping to amplify anti-Trump sentiment and essentially use Democrats to clean up the Republican Party's two-decade-old astroturf mess. You're looking at a huge failed experiment that the Kochs can't seem to shut down, because the Republicans lost control of it, and it's now eating everyone involved alive.

D2S reminds me of the people at Ford who absolutely *knew* that the Pinto was poorly (cheaply) engineered, and was an obvious risk of fire in a rear-ended impact, and still approved it for production and sale.

To date, I don't recall any of those people faced trial for contributory manslaughter.  None ever served time in prison.

Notice a parallel?...

Oh and it's hilarious you believe america is some sort of "reasonable society". Haven't you been paying attention all this time? And please, I don't mean any snark or meanness in saying that, because half of my government prefers me and my son dead, as they consider us a drain on society, and 30%+ of my countrymen and women prefer us dead for the same reason. Democrats (and I vote straight D) keep telling me they want to help, and sometimes they are able to squeak something out legislatively, but for the most part they let the Rs run roughshod over everything.

America has really never been a reasonable society for everyone like it's supposed too.

There is no reasonable society which would force people to go back to work in what's basically a giant petri dish in order to pay the bills. You are going to see a lot of teachers and staff getting sick and dying because of this. No job is worth your life.

Dead from covid, dead from being homeless. Shiatty choice, huh?

And it's by design.

Unrestrained capitalism requires cheap labor, and cowed workers who can't quit.

He then went on to say that we are doing too much testing, but that we are still testing, whereas Biden and Obama stopped all the testing when they were in charge and cost so many lives that the media refuses to report on.

The template letter for a student or teacher that dies isn't a new thing.

But having to make one specifically for COVID is a new thing.  They are explicitly preparing to mitigate the damage they cause by opening too soon, knowing that it will result in preventable deaths.  There's almost certainly a form letter sitting on a computer somewhere for release in the event a teacher dies in a car crash, from cancer, or a freak gasoline fight accident.  The new letter has to somehow keep people calm when a teacher or student dies from something they caught at school, and do so in a way that makes people willing to keep sending their kids to that same school. It's a much harder sell.

Be careful what you wish for. I suspect there are a lot of people (hopefully enough) who've had it with 45 to the point they won't vote for him, but they'd vote for Pence. Then the GOP gets to stack the SCOTUS for a generation.

I don't recognize it as human.

It has none of the characteristics that separate humans from animals. In fact, it has none of the characteristics that separate animals from single-celled organisms.

What I'm saying is, it doesn't even have the capabilities of a bacteria.

I think it's more on the level of a virus.

Probably why it won't fight the COVID. Personal courtesy, like knows like.

We saved millions of lives when we did the initial closure. Had we not done what we did we would have had two to- Mike and I were talkin' about it before- two to three million lives lost. But, we did that so we're at about 135,000, and we'll be somewhat higher than that by the time it ends. Uh, and again the vaccines are happening and the therapeutics are happening, but I'm not even talking about that, so we'll be at a somewhat higher- but we would have lost two million, three million lives had we not done it. Uh, now we understand it also. We understand there's certain vulnerabilities, young children."

There is another option.  The various levels of government could offer financial relief until such a time as a vaccine is available, or the economy adapts and people can return to work or to school in a safe manner.

But that probably means raising taxes, so it's a non-starter for most Americans.

2021-22 school year if biden is elected and a vaccine is found.

If trump is reelected, America dies on a ventilator.

YES! Sarah Cooper!

There were some things people were talking about that it said, and with Sarah's help, I was able to listen to it. Apparently, if the sound of that voice isn't coming from a fat orange anus-mouth, I can handle it a little bit. I've still only watched those two videos of hers, but it's not her fault. She does the best she can to mitigate the horror, but I can't watch for entertainment.

It doesn't because the proper answer to "What do you say to parents who..." would have required empathy, which Trump is incapable of.

So he's left with trying to toot his own horn, and only has crib notes with a few numbers on it, so he tries to wing and trips and falls on his face doing it.

This is classic deflection that works for people who believe that Trump has great judgment. He's saying, "I'm right about insisting on opening the schools because I was right about something else."

Oh, it's their Twitter.

I was hoping they'd done another ad with him talking about killing people being fine.

It'll probably be out tomorrow.
