GOOD. Blow off some steam & take a year off. The kids are going to need to retain their eligibility, however. You should just pay them since most seniors will graduate.

I still don't know how the NFL thinks they can play

I also believe that come hell or high water, the NFL will try and play.

Depends who get sick.

Player #38-45 on the roster can die on the field for all the league is gonna care.

I'm a season-ticket holder, and I don't know how you play football, much less have anybody in the seats. Hopefully we'll be back in 2021. Fingers crossed for basketball, maybe after the new year.

Kent State had a better chance of beating Alabama than CFB does at having a full season.

I forget who I heard say this, but I heard last week that the NFL's attitude is that as long as the NBA and MLB can play, they're going to try to play.

Of course, if the MLB's plans fall apart (as it seems the league is trying to make happen with testing issues) and the NBA's bubble gets popped (by players being sick of being cooped up for weeks on end); then the NFL is screwed.

This.  Hockey is the only thing I see lasting longer than a week or two. NBA players are already violating the bubble ffs.

FTFA if the NFL does one week they have to pay 100% of guaranteed salaries for the year.  That's a gamble they won't take if they don't know they can do the whole season.

More than ever because of the money involved, they're going to do whatever they possibly can to get in 10 football games between now and next September. That's what it's come to."

I hate these f*cking people.

Hockey has an unfair advantage. It is going to be played in the safer space of Canada by a bunch of Canadians who are willing to actually do what is asked during a pandemic because they are Canadians.

/yes, I totally forget the percentage of Americans in the league

No one should be playing college or pro team sports of any kind this year. The only sports that can go on are individual non-team sports like tennis or golf with either no fans at all or fans that have to be wearing masks and abide by strict social-distancing protocols.

Face it. Overall when it comes to about 90% of team sports - college or pro - this year is over. If we have any hope of seeing any team sports in 2021, then we need to embrace the simple fact that 2020 is a wash. And we need to shut everything down (again), wear masks where ever there is the slightest change of being within six-feet of anyone and get rid of this farking virus this year or else we can kiss 2021 goodbye as well.

Even golfers are getting it and the more I learn about the more it seems you don't want it even if you are asymptomatic.

But, yeah, it's just like the economy; it sucks now but if we don't cancel this season we're in for a much longer hiatus.

The SEC will challenge that assertion...
But seriously, POTUS is a big problem in all this.  From TX to FL are a bunch of states that love CFB and are states that T can't afford to lose.  He'll order them to play (hell an actual executive order is within the real of reality), and stopping CFB in the SEC at that point will take multiple students dying.

The NFL owners will just business decision this into not paying players (but sure as fark counting it as a year of the players' contacts) and they'll be insulted by POTUS for a day but with so many teams in blue states it'll be just a day off insults followed by sporadic "NFL USED TO BE TOUGH" tweets.

Me and the Mrs. had a "non-influenza viral pneumonia" in March with 2 weeks+ of symptoms similar to COVID.  I had 3? maybe more nights where the coughing was violent enough to wake me up or keep me from sleeping.  That's akin to a "mild" case of COVID.

As someone who generally lives and dies by sports, I'm surprised at just how little I care this year.  March drove me nuts because I'm used to that being the lead in to baseball, which is what I care about all too much.  By April I realized things were going to be off a while.  By May I realized that 2020 sports were not going to happen.

I usually do 3 intricate rotiserrie baseball leagues and 30-40 fantasy football leagues every year.  I just don't give a shiat this year.  My baseball leagues (which are perennial leagues with the same guys year in and out) are trying to do simple draft leagues for the year, but I can't get into it because I doubt the shortened season will happen.  And I haven't done a single football draft for the same reason.

I guess some good comes out of shiatty situations like this.  I'm learning to live without sports, which I never thought I could do....

How many amateur athlete lives or potential permanent damage does it take to equal the economic value of playing, i bet there is a bean counter somewhere making that calculation and I imagine the number is higher than we can imagine

They are making them sign waivers right?

It is being done successfully in other countries with empty stadiums, extensive testing and players/staff taking the pandemic seriously.

So all it relies on is Americans not being idiots.

As someone who gave up on most sports (postseason games may be the most I'd watch) I'll just say I hope more people in this country realize how unimportant they are.

When i stopped playing FF and generally caring at all about sports a few years ago, I was shocked at the amount of free time I gained. if you routinely play 30 leagues, man this should be an eye opener that it may be time to change your priorities.

I stopped watching most games except the major college football games. The NFL killed football for me. Way too many commercials to sit through. So if an NFL game is on at my house, it's background noise while I fix or clean something. That bled to college games where I slowly lost interest. Now just the few big games. It also makes it more exciting, since you get like 3 big ones a year. Those I'll have people over and it's a lot more fun to enjoy

Even the most oppressive governments tend to still provide at least a baseline of panem et circenses, lest the proletariat become restless and agitated and decide that they should "reform" the government with their newfound free time.

I suspect that we'll see just enough sports to pacify the booboise.

Look at how they rolled out the NBA, NHL, MLB - they've been hyping up the return of these sports since May.

Have any of those leagues played even one game yet?

They dragged it out as much as they possibly could to pacify people.  They'll do the same with football - pushing things back and back and back until they get cancelled again - and start the whole cycle up again.

I've already told myself - I don't care until they play real games - and even then, I'm not emotionally investing myself in these types of things like I would in a normal situation.

I realize that Pol Tab --->

But honest this is relevant. The Democratic political machine, particularly that of the 19th century, basically ran on a platform of "vote for us and we will give you stuff." But 21st century Republicans figured out that they can skip the Panem part and run on the platform of "vote for us and we will make sure those people won't get stuff."

If the podunk chucklefarks wanted their pwecious college football, they should have worn their masks in April and May. Now? Too late to save this season, bubba.
