There wasn't much time to troubleshoot and find a fix for the issue so hopefully, yes.  It is supposed to be cooler than last weeks race so that may help with the brake issues other teams were experiencing. Barring drivers from being more conservative in their lines (and slower) the curbs are still there waiting to punish cars suspension and rattle electronics.

Qualifying 1.2 seconds faster than the guy in second place is a big deal. That sort of gap usually covers the top fifteen cars. But wet qualifying is a bit of a crapshoot so it's unlikely his race pace advantage will be that big.
Again the Ferrari powered cars are down the field, Vettel in tenth, and Leclerc behind him with the Alfas and Haas cars well down the field behind him. Looks like their big power boost last year was something underhand that the FIA have put a stop to this year with, apparently, new extra fuel flow sensors. If so that is a fundamental engine problem that might not be fixed until next year, at the earliest, given the restrictions in engine mods allowed.  I wonder if Carlos is having second thoughts on moving to the Italian team...
Russell and his Williams in 12th. Another small hopeful sign.

Worth looking out for is tyre strategy. The rules say you have to start the race on the tyres you qualified on in Q2, but since that was wet teams can pick any tyre, so they can pick a race plan and choose whatever tyres they want. The race is supposed to be dry.

This race will be several firsts.

The first ever Styrian Grand Prix
The first ever racetrack to host two F1 races in a single season
The first ever racetrack to host two F1 races in a row

Note, however, that this is NOT the first time a nation hosted two races in a row (Japan hosted the Pacific and Japanese Grands Prix back-to-back at different race tracks in 1995, and there may be earlier examples I'm not aware of). And it is also not the first time a nation was the namesake of two consecutive races -- the last race of 1995 was the Australian Grand Prix (in Adelaide) and the first race of 1996 was also the Australian Grand Prix (in Melbourne)

And definitely not the first time a nation has hosted two races in one season -- Italy has always hosted the San Marino Grand Prix, and most European Grands Prix were hosted in a nation which had its own national namesake Grand Prix.

The US hosted 3 races in 1982 - the US Grand Prix West, the Detroit Grand Prix, and the Caesar's Palace Grand Prix. To date, it's the only time that one nation hosted 3 races in one season.

Incidentally, the second race at Silverstone will be the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, and the weekend after the Italian Grand Prix in Monza will be the first Tuscan Grand Prix at Mugello.

The Mugello race will also be Ferrari's 1000th Grand Prix race. I expect them to celebrate it by having a black letter M on a white background on the rear wing of their cars, representing Mugello and the Roman numeral for 1000 (and representing absolutely nothing else, especially not cigarettes)

I can't wait to see how they cheat/work the FIA to commemorate the milestone.

Grosjean will start the race from pit road instead the starting grid because his team did unsupervised and unauthorized work on the car under parc ferme conditions.

2020-07-12 8:46:13 AM
And I love it that Ferrari had to remove their fuel-flow "adjuster" for this year after the FIA ruled it violated the rules by giving them an unfair advantage by increasing fuel flow to the car under the control of the team engineers and not the driver using the accelerator.

Basically "parc ferme" is a sterile zone, where FIA officials inspect the cars, and where the teams cannot so much as wipe dust off the side mirrors without FIA permission. "Park [the car] firmly" might be a better translation.

I'm a big Kaep fan and still pretty upset that he got blacklisted when he's statistically better than many QBs that got to start games the year after the game he played -- but I don't understand why people criticize drivers for not kneeling for the photo op -- like, these guys are mostly rich white people that have villas in monaco or luxemburg -- most of them have no real concept of what racism is like so feels a bit disingenuous.

I was just pointing out that omitting the accent on the final 'exam changes the meaning of the word.

Hey, I aint against the message -- just saying it feels weird in F1.

I'm all for King James and other american athletes taking knees and being super critical of a system that was designed to keep them down... because not just ACABs, but the system is literally set up against PoC with the school-to-prison pipeline.

I've had arguments because I've heard people that say racism doesn't exist in the US because the richest athletes in america are mostly african americans...

Just saying it feels weird with european drivers that have lived comfortably most of their lives...
