Did you hear about the red ship and the blue ship that crashed into each other?

The survivors were marooned!

Dammit that was the first thing I thought of

I looked up Malachi Bros and I still don't know why they are. They must have come along when Happy Days got weird - half the cast was living in the 50's and half was living in the 80's and Ralph and Potsie were still in high school even though they were like 30 years old.

That was very bizarre.  No warning horns, no reversing of engines, little maneuver from either ship.  Seems like both crews were asleep and on autopilot.  The insurance companies are going to love it.

From the comments, it sounds like one of the ships lost steering.  At that point, with ships that big, there's really nothing to do but brace for impact.

No, you go to starboard!
I went starboard last time, it's someone else's turn!
I don't want to go starboard!

Nothing they could have done would matter as of the point the video started.

Warnings would have already been sounded.

In a channel each ship should keep to its right side (starboard side) of the channel. Apparently the red ship had lost steering.

If a ship lost steering, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some indication of that in the control room. Possibly there was no alarm, and the crew hadn't realized it, but if they had time they might have stopped propulsion and sounded an alarm or put on some emergency lights. I'm curious who was watching things, and if they were watching.
