I entertained the idea for a nanosecond last night, when I saw a laundry basket for $69 and then, Occam's razor kicked in.

Can you imagine someone buying an industrial cabinet and being sent a child instead? What's the return shipping on that?

Is this a case of computer algoriths setting online prices and then engaging in a bidding war for random bits of merchandize resulting in astromical and ridculous prices randomly scattered through a site. Because that happens on Amazon every second of every day. There have been lots of used books for which I have declined to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars because I could get a new copy or the Kindle copy for less than $1999.

Gormless twits generate conspiracy theories to explain things most people already know. Who could possibly have predited this?

/ Shoe box I ordered was a Guatemalan boy when it came. Would not buy again. Who needs two house boys in a tiny apartment?

When I see an obviously inflated price for an item, I always think child smuggling.  I am currently staking out the printer ink warehouse.  It should have a whole elementary school in there!

People who have creepy obsessions with child trafficking.  To be honest, they're probably just mad that the prices are so far beyond what they can afford by working at Cinnabon.

Wouldn't the kid come *in* the cabinet? Much less suspicious looking for the delivery guy.. hopefully someone would remember to drill the "wiring holes" in the back first, of course. Maybe toss a bottle of water and a granola bar in there, too

This and variations of it is one of the key beliefs of Suburban Karenism. The idea that people are lurking around [insert name of local shopping center], probably of a brown persuasion, ready at a moments notice to kidnap white ladies for sex slavery, is one that you will never talk any of them out of. It fulfills both the need to be constantly afraid of everything and the need to get all greased up in the undercarriage in between 911 calls.

10,000 for a used child?! That's highway robbery. Everyone should know that in order to get the highest value a deal needs to be made before a kid is born. You take that kid out of the hospital and the price on it drops by almost half.

The part that genuinely confuses me about these allegations is that, for all the ooga-booga rape-and-child-abuse hysteria out there, when you look at the numbers, people do not actually give two warm shiats about pedophiles.

I mean, Christ, Alabama almost elected a known pedophile to the U.S. Senate, very recently.  And that was a REALLY close leection.

It's just bad-faith arguments, all the way down...

Roger Stone got his kids from the ones ICE stole at the border that they are ordered by a judge to give back by the 17th but that everyone is forgetting about.

Every single time they put out a projection of a false accusation, it is because the monsters are covering for what they are doing. And if anyone does give a shiat about kids and wants to raise the alarm, those you can best bet will be the ones that do get targeted for all kinds of shiat.

I know.

Remember, over HALF of ALL ICE employees were part of a godamn HATE group on facebook. Over ten thousands. Those working in border patrol call those they guard "bodies" and were wearing face masks "for the stench" long before covid. Like predictive programming or some shiat.

Anyway, there is REAL human trafficking going on. But what this does is make it seem like ALL human trafficking is just a rumor and sensationalism, not a real crime with real victims who really need rescuing.

and they do.

I saw a post like that a few months ago. There were two women by a grocery store exit begging for money and two people in a suspicious car about 100 feet away, so naturally the women were going to drag young girls to the car in order to kidnap them and force them into prostitution. There was too much wrong there to address all at once, so I just suggested that with everyone in lockdown it was a terrible time to add extra mouths to feed, and even pimps were probably cutting staff.

Another likely explanation that I have seen is that the algorithm on sites like Wayfair and Amazon penalizes third party sellers for items being out of stock, and of you delist an item you lose the sales data or it is a pain on the ass to add it back in when you get more inventory. So if they have items that are out of stock (likely now with a lot of supply chains still recovering from the shutdowns in the spring), what they'll do is jack up the price to a ridiculous amount so no one will buy it, then when it comes back in stock they'll put the price back to normal.

It looks weird but it is easier than the alternatives. One guy even mentioned that it has the advantage of him being able to find problem items easily by sorting his inventory by price to find the ones he needs to talk to the vendor about or find an alternate supplier.
