Oh. Huh. So early to mid July. Got it.

Hoax! It's snowing in Antarctica right now!

Jayminey. I am so glad we fled to the PNW.

And here in the PNW it hasn't even been worth getting the windowshaker AC units out of storage yet.

Temperatures over 100 aren't particularly rare in the Southwest in July.

No, but temps of 120 can be deadly.
Better to put out an advisory than do nothing and assume people will be prepared all on their own

I mean daytime temps of 93+ are enough to trigger heat stroke in most people over 40 if precautions aren't taken, especially if they are outdoors laborers or exercising strenuously.

I have two shrubs to eliminate with the saws-all and then I look forward to a long float in the pool.
Lanza tells me the heat index will top off in the upper 100s to mid-110s this weekend.

oof. not only was it hot here but my upstairs neighbor moved out and so I trying to sleep but the hammering and shrieking of nails being pulled out was loud as they removed carpet (?). working graveyard shift sucks but having balls stuck to leg with sweat and being woken up makes it so much worse.

I will quit whining. I did manage to unstick my balls so I am okay.

I've lived most of my life in the Central Valley of California because I'm an idiot.  Every summer sucks here, but some suck to the level of killing people.  If this is one of those summers, it will just be another reason 2020 is the worst year ever.

Meh. When it gets hot here, i go mexican. Start early. Do physical work early in the morning say til ten. Move to an indoor project. Noon or 1, lunch then siesta time til 3 or so, indoor work til 5 when it starts cooling off, then more physical work til dark.
If i have to be out in the heat, i soak and wring out a tshirt and wear it egyptian style under my sun hat and rewet it every half hour or 45 minutes. Looks silly but hey, it really works. Nighttime it gets to 50 or so, daytime maybe 85 or 90.

Salt Lake is at 4200 feet, mountains at 10k+, with reservoirs to collect snow melt. We will be <hopefully> fine for a good while if people can get over the need for grass and green lawns. In all honesty Vegas shouldn't exist. Eventually the desert will swallow it.

Sorry for you all where it's uncomfortably hot, but I live in Oregon. This will be one of the few weekends the weather will be decent so far this year, so I'm excited.

Oh, that is gonna kill a lot of mammals and insects. Also gonna kill a lot of bacteria in the soil and water. Which in turn is gonna mess with the nutrients that plants crave.

I've lived in the bay area all my life and your scorching hot Central Valley heat is what cools us off in the summer. The valley heats up, causing the air to rise, which sucks in cool air off the cold Pacific ocean. They call it nature's air conditioning. Thanks?

You're welcome.

I'm heading to Carmel tomorrow for work.  I was there a couple weeks ago as well.  The car told me it was 65 degrees when I left town, 102 an hour and a half later when I entered the valley.  It's crazy what microclimates can do.

The great thing about the PNW is you can use all the money you save from not having to buy sunblock, ice chests and swim suits to buy more anti-depressants.

No, it's actually going to hit 91 where I am.  That said, bragging is bad form. It just encourages the weather gods to hit us with several weeks of 100 degrees or more.

I lived in san rafael in the 90's. When all the rest of the bay was fogged in, san rafael was sunny and warm. Fun place in the 90's, shoulda bought real estate then cause certainly cant afford to go back there now...

========================

Where were you at with high humidity?  In Ohio we've had 90s for most of the past two weeks, but aside from yesterday, it's been very pleasant humidity wise.  Still, 90+ is awful even with somewhat pleasant humidity.  Especially with hardly a drop of rain that entire time.

This morning it's rainy, dreary, and overcast and I've never been happier about it.
