How will that work?  Won't there be a contract?  Would this not just mean FedEx pays millions of dollars to the Washington Redskins for no purpose whatsoever?

I would think so.   It would be hard for FedEx to argue in court that they didn't realized Redskins was the team name when they signed the contract.

The [Redacted] Stadium in Landover, MD? The "Football Field to be Named Later" Stadium in Landover?  The "Football MacFootballyface" Stadium or the BLM Coliseum? They could name the field according to what they wanted probably by the contract. Unsure if the "Washington Redskins" organization would want that.

I suppose if the contract was drawn up by a 2nd grader, sure.

It's a moot point anyway.  The name is going to change.  It will be 100% innocuous and won't appropriate any culture.

Except the culture of Coney Island, if the rumors of the name change are to be believed...

=================================================

A) There IS a contract, yes.
B) Yes, it would mean they're paying them for no reason at all.
C) These contracts are (usually) fairly easily dropped because a lot of other companies are willing to jump in and take over.  Pittsburgh for instance got a 21 year contract to Consol for their Consol Energy Center.  8 years into the deal, Consol wanted out of the deal (they're a coal and oil company and are losing money like crazy, so they wanted to end the deal to save money) and ppg paints swooped right in and took over.

Fedex would have a tougher time straight up ending the deal because a lot of companies don't want to touch it anymore, but I'm sure there's probably SOME company that wants to.  There's plenty of Trump-humping CEOs that would love to take over the naming rights.

Hmmm... I don't know. I've seen mid-season name changes before. Let's sat Suntrust bought the rights. Now they have merged with BBT and are now called "Truysis" or something. I'm pretty sure they leave some wiggle room in the contracts for such things. The fight aloneto try to stop them from changing the name would be very consequential, don't you think? They could make up a random memo leak stating "due to our difficulties with their racist name we are changing our name to: such and such". Farkers should hold a contest to see what name Fedex should choose to make the [Redacteds] change their name.

Nowadays, not sure how many companies want to pick up a "Washington *" contract. At least for now. What company right now has $X00 mill to spare for "naming rights"? This perhaps limits their wiggle room.

It would be hilarious to hear Snyder make that argument.  It would undermine his entire argument against changing the name.

It's "Truist", but everyone that works at BB&T thinks it's an idiotic name.  They also have about twenty stadium deals with non-racist-named teams, so I doubt they'll want to step in.

It wouldn't be Snyder per se.  The argument is fairly straight forward.  Did you or did you not realize the name of the team was the Redskins?  If the answer is yes Snyder wins.  If the answer is no Snyder still probably wins.

For something like a beer I could understand it.  It has synergy.  Is there anyone thinking about going to a game, realizes it is at FedEx field and thinks, "fark, I need to mail some packages!"

i say it in every rename thread. there will be people that say "warriors" perpetuates violence

as an aside, i saw the new land o lakes packaging at the store this week, and had an indian not been on that packaging, i would have never thought of that group of people. now that she's gone, ill be associating the butter with the absence of indians

getting rid of indians in any popular culture will be the end of them outside of randomly going to a casino in certain parts of the country or a second grade history book

.

ill give you the cleveland indians mascot, thats a joke. but washingtons? no. land o lakes? no.

what would be wrong with a respectable logo of an indian? and what would be wrong with having them be the name of a team? why cant this franchise come up with something respectable to represent a group of people who were farked over at every step so they aren't forgotten?

people are going to pay more attention to sportsball programs than museums, nat geo, or textbooks

You may want to advocate for actual tribes then. Seminole, Cherokee, Chippewa, and such.

Redskins and generic pictures of non-descript "Indians" (even the term "Indian") misses the point that they are a culture of people, not a mascot.

Bah. Go all the way with it - "BLM but Racist Team Names Don't @ FedEx Field". I'm sure that's exactly what Snyder would want on display. Or appeal to the Trump brigade with "Kyke Owners Redskins Field" - it's just honoring Snyder's noble heritage, and that's cool, right?
