But all the other kids get to go outside and play!

That's because the other kids do their homework, brush their teeth, and mask their face.

Here is what I don't understand from a logical standpoint*. Opening schools like normal causes more infection and death. This, in theory, leads to worse election odds. Why follow this path?

*I know, Trump doesn't use logic or reason, he "goes from the gut". Still, you would think that there is at least one person that he listens to that understands reality.

Remember how the rest of the world refused American genetic modified wheat, had growth hormone beef concerns and the like.

While they play open the schools during the pandemic games these jackasses are acting oblivious to what's coming.

Because the more people that accept this situation as "the new normal", the less likely it is that a mob of angry citizens will storm the White House again and demand a reckoning.

My initial estimate was 4.3 mil dead if no working vaccine is developed and adopted. Working vaccine remains to be seen. Adoption is probably 60%. I'll revise my estimate to 2 mil dead if a vaccine is found early next year.

That's the final total of dead accross the length of the disease.

I think I've figured it out: Trump wants a farktonne of young, healthy people with a good shot at a full recovery to get COVID-19 so that their antibodies can be collected and used therapeutically for other patients less likely to survive (you know, like fat old republican politicians). This is the Trump solution to getting past COVID-19 and your kids are the test tubes in which he wants to brew up his cureall. Don't let him do this.

1)  This is like a slow-motion car crash.  We all know how this is going to end...schools are all going to be remote learning before long at some point; it's just a matter of which states/cities want to have sick/dead students/teachers/families first.

2)  I remember at the beginning of this, that a smart person said that if we did things right, it would seem like an overreaction (and that we'd have dumbasses complaining that we didn't have to do so much).

We did few things right, and lots of things wrong - and we STILL have dumbasses complaining about "their freedoms".

I hate all of this.

A 1% mortality gives us 3 million dead.

It's magical thinking. There's only one route to victory at this point: The US has to get back to a relative normal; the virus has to be more or less contained; and the economy (not the stock market) has to recover to some degree. (I suppose that you could add that Americans have to forget that 130,000+ people have died.) Of course all three can't happen realistically, BUT, if the virus were to magically disappear, and people were already back at work and children in school, then he would be almost be there.

So he has convinced himself that the virus will go away. He has said as much even recently.

It's a bit like playing poker heads up with only a few chips left. You have no choice but to go all in. The chances you will win is small, but you're guaranteed to lose if you don't.

That's a great analogy. However, Trump has 2 5$ chips and his opponent is sitting on over $1 mil. He will lose that wager unless the deck is stacked..... Oh, right.

3.3 million.  But nothing gets to 100% saturation unless immunity is short lived, which is why I asked what his assumptions were on that.

80% saturation (CDC estimate). Why I revised to 2 mil if there is a vaccine. Still stand by 3-4 mil if no vaccine and we keep being morons. It's horrible, but it's fairly simple math.

The kids who were marching over school shootings should start a riot and see if the police tear gas 12 year  olds. Considering this is a plan to kill the kids' parents, and use the kids as the agents carrying the deadly virus, the kids would be responding to deadly force on the part of the schools. I can't imagine any level of chaotic response by kids is unexpected, if the kids are being told to murder their parents or grandparents with a virus because Donald Trump says so.

Yeah that would be craptastic. They will listen to their parents. And if their parents want them at school they will go to school. And believe me, the parents want them at school.

Won't be a full two weeks before it all shuts down again anyways. At least can reinforce expectations and work over how the students will utilize their online learning.
