Nah it was an Aussie. All our current virus cases and potential virus cases are visitors from overseas.

Mind you if I was locked up in Hamilton, I'd need a few beers to get me through.

But I don't understand why he couldn't just order it in

Dude, I salute your determination!

But seriously, if you require quarantine, then you need to supply the necessities: Food, water, booze, internet, pr0n. People need things to pass the time.

Don't a lot of aussies have the same "you can't tell me what to do " attitude that most 'Muricans have?

He also has some fascinating and quite funny stories about being a double amputee

I heard from a friend in NZ that one person left isolation to have a smoke recently. It seems to me that if they want to cut down on visitors, just tell them they can't smoke at all for 14 days...

Me an the ol lady started to watch Hamilton but it was way too musicky. I would go nuts if I was locked up with all that damn singing.

Google's charts give Australians about 1/30 the per-capita C19 rate of the 'Muricans, so they don't seem to have it as much. (365 per million vs 9812 per million. Wow, getting up to 1% in the US.)

It's interesting how people react to stuff - regardless of the actual situation, some people are stoic, some are shocked, shocked, and so on.

Half the world has a huge crush on Ardern, Clark, and Bloomfield, but in the New Zealand press there's quite a bit of "why aren't they doing more?". (At the same time of course, there was plenty of "why didn't they re-open sooner?" )  Electoral politics goes on, virus or not.  I expect these quarantine escapes will feature as a wedge issue.

After experiencing these past few months I will never again snort in disbelief at any of these horror movies and their 'ridiculous' characters who do stupid things. Clearly they are not plot-convenient as I originally thought, they are the most realistic portrayal of the human aspect in cinema history.

The guy who lets the rage monkeys out in 28 Days Later? Of course he did.
Every stupid thing ever done on The Walking Dead? Believable now.
Alien and Predator movies? Practically a documentary.

Well the opposition party tried, but they stepped on their dick and have had one MP resign in disgrace, their health spokesman has lost all credibility and their leader - a new one because the last one was already so woeful - was accused of lying to the media on the evening news last night.

In general, yes, we are pretty anti-authoritarian but only when questioning authority for its own sake. If there's a good reason to do so, we will pull together in a crisis. Once we get a grip on the issue, we stand firm and take things in hand. We are quite capable of holding our own.

We've had 3 people break out of their quarantine and go walkabout in NZ in the last week or so.  The punishment is a $4k fine and up to six months in jail.  I hope they all get jailed once their quarantine is up and the other inmates know what they did.  Then they'll wish for the sweet peace of solitary confinement.  Everybody here in NZ is really pissed at these people jeopordising our Covid free life.  It's nice to wander down to the shops like normal again.

We pull together.  Why just last month we all got together and agreed that we should really get together more often.  Then fighting broke out, and some places were burned, and a bunch of us ended up in the hospital or jail, or both.  There was gunfire, and no one is really sure whether it was the police or the hooligans, but then there was gunfire and it was definitely hooligans, followed by more gunfire, but this time it was definitely the police.  It was a good time, filled with American ideals and the urge to be a part of the bigger picture.  I don't see why other nations slander us the way they do.
