President Xi will just promise to help Trump win, then he can just get briefcases full of state secrets.  The orange traitor is not above giving away American security to ensure his own.

I'm sure we'll get the followup on how those companies produce things we use in EVERYTHING to include our military stuff.

Nice to know they can do this when have released absolutely no evidence of any spying

ArkAngel: Nice to know they can do this when have released absolutely no evidence of any spying

because doing so would reveal national security information and would likely be so classified that revealing the evidence would compromise sources and methods?

Remember, we don't have the KGB/FSB, we don't really have the human intelligence (CIA) side of things that the Russians can pull off. We (both the US and FVEY collective) have the means to do some damn good intel gathering through other means.

That will greatly inconvenience the Trump campaign's efforts to get fabricate dirt on Biden.

Knowing how the government works, it will take 5 to 7 years to actually implement this policy.

So where does the US plan to get it's rare earth metals if companies owned by, or affiliated with, Chinese businesses are now verboten?

Probably should have done something for US manufacturing before every supply line passed through China.

If Trump doesn't get re-elected, those Trump trademarks in China will mysteriously disappear.  I'm sure Xi already has the paperwork drawn up and ready to go.

The lack of evidence just shows how crafty they are at spying.

On the one hand the Gyna are unscrupulous little shiatbags with their eyes on the big prize, on the other hand so is trump; on the other, other hand, Gyna is a 5K + yr old civilization with its own ambitions, on the other, other, other hand, our final flourish as an short lived empire in decline was to "elect" a reality television white nationalist wannabe tinpot despot.

What about the trump admin leads you to believe that it is even capable of taking that advice. it seems to have been nothing but a series of self dick punches, one after another after another after another.

You also have to consider that in the case of China, the general populace didn't really have a say as to having Xi are their leader.  However, in the US, enough people thought that it was a great idea to have a bigoted, misogynistic, racist, shady "business" man with no experience whatsoever become our president.  So I think our case is worse since we actually allowed someone like Trump to be voted in.

The reason the government has not released any evidence is that it's a lie. There is zero spying conducted by these companies via their hardware.

How do I know?

Because the commercial sector checks. There are whole industries dedicated to just to looking for vulnerabilities. Hackers, in the corporations that tried to stop them, are constantly attacking these devices looking for a way in. If China left a back door so they could spy with one of these devices, someone in industry would find it.

The real reason people are accusing China of spying is simply money. Is China can be locked out of the 5G networks for next few years, then the US will become the dominant standard and make a fortune both in the US and overseas.

Some people look hard, but firmware malware is something that isn't easy to detect, and not every vendor is checking every chip.  All they'd have to do is a little supply chain interdiction like this and they'd have malware in critical places.

You would be amazed at the actions credible China tech companies will take to prevent supply chain interdiction. It is a major worry.

/They lose more money from counterfeit insertion than you would believe possible
//Then there is the huge wastage from GoodFellas style internal parts theft
///This year's money factory is the privacy complaint supply chain, where if you can ensure data chain of custody from the factory to a health facility then at EOL to where the part is physically destroyed, you get to triple your per-unit revenue.

All this anti Chinese sentiment is about 30 years too late.  Coulda used it back then, but no, there was money to be made by cheap labor.

This is probably not a bad move.

American security agencies have been reported doing this with American technology companies for a while, so it's no surprise that they'd think other nations are doing the same thing.
