I'd like to think that's Pence behind him, but at this point it could be anyone...

Oh man, it is all raining down at once. He is toxic to any elected GOP who is up for re-election in November, and even Justice I Like Beer votes against him. I hope he is having a panic attack.

It's nothing to Bragg about.

It's also a message to Donnie, that the military stays loyal to the Constitution and the Republic. He got a taste of this with the letter to the troops to ignore illegal orders while Donnie did his photo-op at the church, but this is a message that the military stands with the nation, not simply the POTUS. And done in a way that publically lets not just Donnie but everyone else know where the military stands. It wasn't just a mild rebuke, this was a slap in the face, even if it was with a velvet glove.

While I get where you're coming from, I think this is the best time to start speaking out.  Trump has proven that he's ok with just up and firing staff members, no one is safe.  Doing things now, getting them out front and center makes them election issues, and a good number of them are still going to be floating around in November even if the person making the statement is gone by the end of next week.

The only thing that is good about this administration is that it's now so toxic that it became impossible to ignore.  Formerly neutral institutions are having to speak out.

I'm waiting for Fauci to just lose it one day. You can see it coming. Every time Fauci warns; Trump ignores. It's beginning to take its toll.

The worst thing that can happen to a narcissistic strongman is to appear weak.

He's weak as shiat right now, so people no longer have to fear reprisal anymore.

It's only going to get worse for him.

We are rapidly approaching that point in Babylon 5 where trump just purged all military officers not loyal to him.....

"The American Civil War ... was an act of treason at the time against the Union, against the Stars and Stripes, against the U.S. Constitution - and those officers turned their backs on their oath," Milley said.

Trump's reflex is to pander to people like him.  Tax cuts for the rich.  Policies that make white supremacists happy. Reduction of limitations for polluters, scammers. Of course he sees traitors as part of his natural constituency.

We were all sold the story of Lee being the good, honorable who hated slavery but only sided with the South bc of how much he loved his home state. If you read up on the truth about his life though, it's pretty apparent that not only was this a lie but that the man was also an arrogant arsehole.

An entire professional life of being told to NOT contradict the POTUS, and to obey orders, and to not make a stink politically. . .it takes a LOT to overcome a very deeply rooted culture of both obedience and political self-preservation.

The fact that Trump has managed to bulldoze through that in about 3.5 years is rather amazing.

Update:

Gen. Mark Milley will retire at the end of the day today, 7/10. He will be replaced by Jarad Cushner according to a tweet by the President who spelled his son in laws name incorrectly.

When asked if Kushner was qualified or even met the legal requirements for the position the President tweeted he would do it by Executive Order.

Now let's see how long he stays a joint chief.

Career people in government, whether civilian or military, tend to look at elected officials as temps. Presidents come and go, but general officers are for life. Political squabbles are beneath them. The current occupant of the Oval Office is irrelevant. They just keep their heads down and do their jobs.
