Now, bear with me here, but I know it's real but some of it looks as fake as shiat.

Amazing footage, but wouldn't you like to go somewhere else?

Lol. People thinking this is fake or a dust devil, you are wrong.

It's a low power tornado, but with one hell of a fast rope. Saw another video of the same twister on Twitter.

Plus, it's Reed Timmer. Guy makes a living chasing these. He has no reason to fake it.

I was hoping it would come right for him and then the camera view gets incomprehensible as the car is whisked into the sky and lands in Oz or something.

Looks fake, but I guess it could be an F-0.1 stalled in place inexplicably.  I suppose.  Anything is possible.

IDisME: It's the realist dust devil I ever saw.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_devil

dust devils typically happen in otherwise clear air, this is a full on funnel cloud

from the wiki you posted:

"Dust devils form as a swirling updraft under sunny conditions during fair weather, rarely coming close to the intensity of a tornado."

It's all "whooooo" and "yeaaaah-ha" until one of those suckers whips a chunk of debris in your direction and gives you reason to call your windshield repair guy.

You know, it always surprises me when people say these people have balls instead of "good lord, what a dumbass".

Looks real to me, way too much interaction with the environment around it (watch the grass moving and the tree that breaks off near the top).  It is moving as well - pretty much straight away from the camera.  I would guess that he had been chasing a funnel cloud, and this footage would be from when it first touched down.  If it lifted up right away, then yes EF-0 to EF-1, though it does seem to be picking up some steam as it moves away from the camera.

Having watched the video yesterday (along with footage and photos from other chasers), I can say that was definitely a tornado as it was associated with a cumulonimbus cloud, was connected at the base and looked like it was positioned in the right part of the storm with deep persistent rotation and a low base.  Radar wasn't too helpful given where it was located (really far from radar sites) but I'd definitely buy that it was a tornado and not a dust devil.

/Great footage all around.
//Chase season more or less has sucked all year so this is a welcome surprise.

Good for him. Although I wish the cameraman had panned over to the animals for a second.

My brother and I were driving up 38th street (of later infamy) in MPLS when a tornado came out of the tail end of a thunderstorm crossing our path going south to north.  First impression was that it was small, when in reality it was at least 5000 feet tall.  I think the speed of the toroidal circulation had something to do with that.  I could see dust and mist take a few seconds to go from ground level to the top, and that must have been moving at 400 mph.

The local tv and radio stations had no warnings for several minutes after it passed.  Ironic, as they had built their whole marketing identity on their Doppler radars and early warnings.   We were home with the tv on before some breathless panicked underling at the tv station finally made a warning.  By that time it had already torn a path through to the northern suburbs.

Is it?  Twitterer tagged him, but I don't think Timmer shot the video.
