What happens when you elect a narcissistic brain dead moron for president?  You become a cult, the party of hate. You become Trump.

I shudder to think about the brain drain Trump has caused.  That's the thing no one has been keeping track of.  For every Vindman that made the news, how many others just said "fark this noise. I'm out"?

I look back at mid-1930's Germany and think of how many of their best and brightest saw the writing on the wall and decided to GTFO while the GTFOing was good.  The U.S. (well, and the rest of the world) were the benefactors of that.

I think that's going to be an incredible, and overlooked loss caused this festering pustule in a suit.

A brain drain from government will just lead to a strengthening of the private sector. It's not nearly the same thing as Nazi Germany, although it may look similar.

I remember early in Trump's term when this was one of the big concerns (Trump has provided plenty of much more immediate concerns since). Yeah, it takes a long time for someone to rise from an entry-level foreign service officer to become an undersecretary or mission chief, and it takes a long time for someone to go from West Point to colonel. It'll have knock-on effects for years.

A pointless goad just to be dickheads.  Biden makes sure escape is impossible, drops the loudest talker straight away.  The rest charge in but are deftly maneuvered into hitting each other.  Of course, they try to cheat (pulling a gun in this case), screaming unintelligible insults, but the attempt is easily deflected and counterpunched.

No. Not just to F with Trump. That's insipid.

If, as apparent, he is a dedicated public servant, and he wants to continue to serve, he should be considered for positions appropriate to his talents and desires to serve his nation. Sticking it to Trump is not a qualification.

Sure it is.  It shows the strength of the institution over the mendacity of one man.  I don't think his qualifications are in question, and hiring him back would send a message to federal employees, especially those in the military, that their service isn't forgotten and meaningless.  Vindman also doesn't have the same political issues as a Comey or McCabe due to their questionable conduct.  His honor is intact to those not at Trump's beck and call.

Well, that is an interesting point. Germany lead all the way in science and with the Nazis taking over, all that potential left our country. The US are in that sense a very schizophrenic society. On the one hand you have heaps of Nobel prize winners plus hundreds of otherly distinguished scientists, on the other hand the US are to the core anti-scientist, with creationism just one sad example. The belief that God will protect you from a viral disease was questioned the first time in Europe during the black death and abandoned step by step with the discoveries of the real causes. It isn't even preached in the Vatican with its very own academy of science.

The same - as often these days - happens in the UK. Brexit - an economic suicide mission based on ideology and not science - has cut off the British scientific world from many important programs especially in the EU.

I wonder if other countries can profit science-wise from these disappointing developments in the US and the UK.

I don't think you get it.  Some people are leaving the country, and others never arrive.  The US used to have its pick of the best brains from the rest of the world; now, they don't want to come here.  Not to mention all the academics Trump kicked out of the country shortly after taking office.  People who can are looking for postdocs or academic positions in other countries, people who have claims on citizenship elsewhere (Ireland, Israel) are availing themselves of it while they can.  Yes, you still get people trying to immigrate, there are still places worse than here.

Yes. It was. Do you have some restricted view of the term?
Hiring Vendman back just to poke at Trump is an insipid idea. It's stupid. It's bland. It has no nuance. There's nothing sophisticated about it. It's frankly Trumpian in the way it is just about attempting to be antagonistic to another administration. That means, "if you like it, I am therefore against it". That's dull and uninteresting.

There were 5 great people, including Vindman, who testified under oath about everything that went on.  Each story was in lock step with the other but offered different view from the different roles each one performed.  Under OATH.
Republicans in Congress, like Nunes and Jordan, not fearing perjury charges, avoided asking them any direct questions but rather used the time they were supposed to question witnesses to instead monologue lies about Democrats and witch hunts.  In the face of sworn testimony from decorated Americans.

Then the Senate chose to ignore sworn testimony and voted in opposition to it.
We had an expectation of justice and this system failed us because senators and congressmen are not held accountable when their words on the floor are proven lies and their votes do not come with the threat of penalty.

The biggest fix on all accounts for an expectation of honest and efficient government is to hold each of them to a standard against perjury that would immediately dismiss them from their posts.

/then we add science, efficiency models and game theory to appease populations with contradictory needs and goals

There is a lot of scum Biden will have to remove. He has to get rid of them. Hopefully he can recover some of the people Trump pushed out.

I worry that every 4 to 8 years the US gov't is going to be completely gutted from now on. Think of all the experience that cuts out.

Maybe Biden can find a way to prevent that.

At a minimum it will take two administrations to put things back in operating order even with a compliant and cooperating Congress. A lot of those overseas positions are empty and can't readily be refilled--they were manned by career diplomats with decades of service who had replacements groomed and standing by.

All that lost. What a waste.
