That person seems like a level headed individual who keeps his cool in tense situations. He should totally have a gun. 🥴

Police say the man shot in the direction of the woman, but the bullet bounced and hit the boy in the head.

Today is Do Everything Wrong day.

The joke is that we have such dumbass gun laws that allow private citizens to own them and dumbass gun owners who will shoot them in public, so we'd better find ways to protect ourselves. A skating helmet IS useless against a bullet, which is the irony in the joke. Likewise, the joke plays on the desire of parents who want to protect their kids by wrapping them in safety equipment when the reality is that random events will occasionally happen and negate all their preparation.

It's probably too cerebral for you, Ed.

Whenever I see that GIF I hear my cousin yelling, "Never try to turn while crossing a wake!"

"What are his chances, doc?"
"He's got a 50-50 chance."
"No, I mean will he survive?"

Coming up with a skateboarding joke that ties together skateboarding, a kid, and a shooting is not so simple as it seems.

Truthfully - it kinda is, yeah.  Straight up shooting someone in the head?  Not rare.  Catching someone with a ricochet?  Pretty damn rare, and not really something doable on purpose.

/doesn't mean he isn't responsible and wasn't a farking moron to go blazing where random folks were around

As best I can find, 1.5-ish percent of deaths each year are gun related, and more than half of those are suicide.

I think rare applies to getting shot and killed by any form of accident, but also to intentional killings as well.

Is there any objectively defined percent for rare?

At times it's amazing how humanity has removed it self from the food chain. Sadly, it comes at a cost. At any moment one can be shot. But, being shot is small price to pay to know I'll never be robbed, or shot, as long as I shot faster and truer . Which is way better than having to fight of a tiger, or an ox.  My thin layer of perceived safety is a million times more important than anyone else getting shot. God bless America.  And pass the Glocks.

Varies all over the place, so nope not really.  Seen one ricochet hit personally out of the target shooting I got up to - hit a relative and punched through their winter coat through like a scene from Wolverines.  Thankfully it just went through the coat and bruised the hell out of 'em, but much pants-shiatting terror ensued on all sides.

/no, wasn't me shooting - thankfully
//shooter wasn't being a dumbass either, to this day we have zero idea wtf it spanged off of

I've seen some funky ricochets too.

My favorite was the floor of a range setting on fire as a guy shot low coming out of his holster. So much built up dust :)
