Motherf*cker...my restaurant just closed for a bit because we ARE testing. Clear COVID test, or you don't work. That's company policy, not the state. Bartender tested negative in Oregon, and drove out here, and RETESTED after he got here, and initially he had a negative test, then his doctor asked him to come back in, and he tested positive. Asymptomatic, but still. So we quarantined the staff that came into contact with him. Everyone. Waitstaff. Cooks. We went on a two-day cleaning spree, including professional services to deep clean everything from carpets to bathrooms to bar, to cleaning our beer lines even.

Right now, the staff who came into contact are quarantined. Which leaves us with a cook staff of three. For two weeks, minimum, hoping that our line crew comes back negative, but that's voluntary. Because we don't want our staff sick, and we don't want our patrons sick. That's voluntary, because that's the company culture. F*ck you and your prissy little hissy fit. Some of us would like to put a pin back in this thing, and not just chuck a live pineapple out into peoples' lives.

Seriously. F*ck. You. F*ck. Directly. Off. Because I take Helen Mirren seriously.

Think of how many diseases could be cured that way... We could eliminate crime if cops stopped taking calls. If the press didn't report on wars, there would be peace at last. And so on.

I tell you, this genius is onto something.

Vitale has long downplayed the severity of the pandemic, and stated he is "tired of living in a dictatorship"

I wonder what his thoughts are on forcing a woman to carry.a clump of cells to term. Before the issue was settled, how did he feel about telling adults who they can and can't marry?

And of course:

It's their fault for taking a pregnancy test, if they hadn't they wouldn't get pregnant.

I kinda agree with the part about not reporting recoveries and just adding to the case numbers. Would be nice to know how many of those total cases are active and infectious.

You want to be careful about getting so riled about sharp bumps in numbers.
The way reporting works, the numbers that get out from the government are usually 24 hours delayed or so from when they get them. A few states update in nearly real time for when they get them but many don't.

And then there's a delay in getting numbers to the government. This was a long 3 day weekend so there were delays. Many of the deaths reported on Tuesday happened over that weekend and the reporting bunched up today.

If for some reason you're actually looking forward to increased death counts you'll likely get your wish over the next few weeks but cool your jets about one day bumps with obvious explanations.

Also that site doesn't tell me how many are recovered in my county (one that's handling this thing pretty well and requiring masks). 1702 cases, 12 deaths, 1689 active cases. Pretty sure it's impossible that they're all still sick after ~3 and a half months since the first case.

We aren't entirely sure when people fully recover, incidentally. People have come back positive after a month of being negative following a confirmed infection. Last I checked it wasn't clear whether those are due to reinfection or reactivation, because, again, we don't know and idiots are gambling with our lives.

They didn't stop recording deaths over the holiday weekend. hospitals know down to the minute when people die. You seem to be under the impression that doctors came into work Monday, saw a bunch of dead people and said, "Eh, will count them tomorrow."

Given that there are significant long term (possibly permanent) effects from what the damage that COVID-19 does to the body, many of those are not surprise.

I realize that all trump lover want to suck his mushroom, but at some point even the most moronic of all people (read all trump voters) need to consider that they no absolutely nothing about disease and should STFU.  Given that they have shown that they have no capacity to learn, perhaps they need people who are not absolute morons to talk.

If a person does not have a complete understanding of reality, they should just STFU so adults can hear themselves.

Both the number of Infected and the number of deaths/recovered are the devil indicators but not a true representation of how much community spread is occurring. All you can do is get a directional sense about the pace of the outbreak; in fact, I would posit that it's the people who are infected but haven't been tested who are the biggest risk to you or me.

It's this "excitement" that we are going to be getting a consistent supply of near or more 1000 deaths per day that I'm cautioning about. Certain zealots will point to that single day and say "see, see, we're back to the huge daily numbers."  We had a few days artificially low that Trump and team were crowing about. On the flip this guy seems to be getting real excited by a single day increase.

Your retort by the way is truly obtuse. I was explaining the systematic low then high in the numbers so that one can think about them in a more informed way.

Yesterday on Facebook I saw someone post a question related to not wearing a mask because of health issues.  This was in one of my craft groups.  People absolutely shredded her (myself included), reminding her that if she's THAT sick, she shouldn't be out "living and working" at all.  A few called us all assholes because OMG ALL SHE DID WAS ASK A QUESTION!!!1 But most told her in no uncertain terms what a selfish cow she was being and to wear the farking mask.

No, and I didn't suggest as much. It's the flow of information to state reporting officials.

They quoted someone on npr today saying "if I was meant to get it I would have gotten it already."

Now I vaguely understand the whole fate concept people retreat to (though you'll notice they still wear seatbelts so obviously they do take safety actions in some cases instead of leaving it all to jeebus). It is probably quite freeing and stress relieving.

But to insist that with an increasing number of cases you had to be among the early batch? What in the blue waffle is that??!

People all like to believe that they are special snowflakes. That means they are either immune from the disease or that they surely must have had it already when they had a sniffle in February.

People don't like to face the truth about their own mortality and risk. It's easier to construct a ridiculous fantasy where they are the invulnerable hero and everyone else is just an NPC.
