She is, and I'm betting she'll win a nice hefty settlement once the jury gets to the miscarriage she claims they caused.

New York City cops, they aren't that smart.

You get money now for being wanted?

Aren't most people on wanted posters technically innocent? Having not been proved guilty.

The cops even promised to take the photo down, but then when she received more text messages the following day and called the precinct back, the detectives apologized once again but "informed her that they were not going to take her picture down from the Facebook Post, despite the fact that she was no longer wanted for any crime"

Why?  Why would you not remove her picture?  That's farking stupid.

Sure. So lets go with that. They WANTED to speak with her. she was like ok im here i had nothing to do with this. She even did it subsequent days to multiple police to the point that they said she was no longer WANTED. But they then refused to remove her picture. Now it becomes an issue. They no longer want to speak with you and have accused you of a crime online even though they have acknowledged you are no longer a suspect.

And why would the police react this way ? Because WE have to pay this woman. And those cops will keep their jobs and nothing will happen to the folks that told her to go pound sand

They probably tried and realised they don't know how technology works and just doubled down on being a dick rather than admitting incompetence.

Seems to be a running theme.

Maybe. It wasn't going to be white, and the jury payouts for dead kids, by color, has even more disparity than most things legal.

Why would they even waste time trying? They have civilians employees for that crap.

Would never want to be a civilian IT employee for police. I've heard stories of them opening criminal investigations for wage theft because a salaried employee showed up late to work.

Outrageous.  Everyone knows that false accusations should be left to bored internet posters.

No. "Innocent until proven guilty" is just a shorthand way of saying that the burden of proof is on the prosecution and that people have due process rights. It doesnt mean you are actually innocent and it certainly doesnt dictate how private citizens treat you.

I live in this precinct! The post is no longer on their FB page, FWIW... but yeah. Not great.

I mean, ultimately, the department failed to remove defammatory/libelous information, even once they knew said information to be false... they were given multiple warnings, and failed to remove it for *months* until the lawsuit was filed. Aside from the adverse job actions and economic damages, there's the miscarriage issue, which can be assessed  by the jury in terms of damages, but also, punitive damages are plainly warranted given the willful nature of the inaction and wanton disregard for the truth.

TBH, I hope she walks out of there with 7 figures, and the city ends up paying her legal fees... the only way this stops is if someone makes it too expensive for cops to carry on.

//yes, I also do think lawsuits against cops, if they are found guilty, should come out of police pension funds... the only way they'll check each other is if they all have something to lose.

This could have been prevented, if only they could choke people. Give NYPD permission to choke people again.

Of course I'm not serious. FARK the NYPD. FARK the entire legal system. Who else gets to go to court and claim "I've never been told NOT to beat the shiat out of a guy in a blue shirt and tan chinos who is handcuffed in the back of my car".

Oh, you're so farking stupid that you didn't know that? By all means, give this cop his gun and badge back.

They admit she is innocent and STILL won't take the pic down?

WTF?

That is plain up harrassment. For starters.
