Half a century ago I never went anywhere in NM unarmed.
And from what I read, I wouldn't do it again unarmed.

Militias are raiders-in-training.

The important thing is making sure that nothing jeopardizes the Hatch chile harvest.

EVERYTHING else -- and I mean EVERYTHING -- comes in a distant second to that.

Put the gun nuts from the "militia" on duty in the fields making sure that Communist infiltrators don't jeopardize our precious essence.

Much like alcohol and heroin, guns make everything better.

That's the purpose of a militia. Don't be silly.

Militias are just cosplay for wheezy blobs with gun fetishes and army dropouts with questionable  separation codes. Of course they're not going to walk around without their precious firearms because the guns are the only thing that make them feel like their lives have any purpose. Their lives don't have any purpose.

2020-07-07 2:57:28 PM
These farkers only bring guns to intimidate and force their will. Not protection. Not safety. They are just lowly cowards who only feel tough by enforcing their will with firearms.

There's a sick part of me that just wants to walk up to one of these GI Jokes while they're posing in "tactical" gear, and just... flick their ear.

This passes pretty fast, though.

2020-07-07 3:02:30 PM
The thing is they think they own the common areas, by virtue of being armed and owners of land/homes or because they pay taxes. They don't think anyone else but them is entitled to life, lib and all that b.s.

"Our reasons for being down there with guns was to, 1. Be a visual deterrent; 2. It's our Second Amendment right to open-carry in this state; and 3. We just want to prevent any violence from spilling out from that protest,"

1. "Visual deterrent"? i.e., intimidation.  Don't bring a gun if you don't intend to use it.

2. It's your right, but also your responsibility.

3. You want to prevent violence from spilling out by shooting people?  Why are you even there?  By bringing a gun, you're declaring that you're willing to put yourself into a lethal situation over a statue.

Check out Mike Dunn, a 19yo Virginia militia boogaloo kid running a successful FB page who basically hooked everyone in and now telling the racist dudes to fark off and is catching a shiat ton of heat for it. Organized a july 4 gun rally in Richmond and then shook hands with BLM.
In a sea of racist authoritatians, he's at least trying. He's not culturally competent but he's in the listening phase.

To the best of my knowledge, all of Young Guns' stuff is grown right there in the Hatch Valley.

But yeah, it pays to read the label.  Here in Vermont we have to work pretty damb hard to keep people from sticking "Vermont" on Canadian-produced maple syrup (or worse, that corn syrup crap people call "pancake syrup").

There's nothing like a freshly roasted Hatch chile right off the fire, but if you can't get that, keep an eye out for these:

They don't sell it in Vermont and I'm too cheap to pay the shipping, but if you ever do see it in a store, buy all they have and go home and lock it away where your neighbors can't see it and come steal it.

Actually, more often that not, the mere presence of a firearm - without firing a shot - is sufficient to deter crime.

Or you could just sit around eating New Mexico cuisine and not waste your time in dick-size contests with guns.  I guarantee you that a nice plate of ropa vieja will mellow you right out.

Or, hell, just head for Albuquerque and get a corner booth at Sadie's.  ANYTHING on the menu is better than sitting around waving your gun at people.

But in St. Louis they don't have green chile cheeseburgers.

My apologies, everyone.  For what it's worth, New Mexico was put on the Earth to bring us one of the finest cuisines on the planet and I go into FOOOOOOD mode pretty much every time I see "New Mexico" in a Fark headline.

I love Vermont, but one does not live in Vermont for the excellent southwestern cuisine.  (The locals are frightened of anything spicy, to be honest.)

When we made a trip out west last year I specifically diverted us through Hatch so we could buy chilies. Dried, and also various red, green and smoked chile powders. I vacuum sealed most of it and put it in my freezer, and take out portions to use so that they keep fresh.

"I wanted to serve in the military, but due to the fact of certain health issues, no way I could get involved. So when I saw this come up, I thought this is the closest I'm gonna get,"

Therein lies the problem. These guys want to play military, without the military training or discipline. When things get hairy, they panic.

Then someone gets hurt, or possibly killed.
