Have you ever directed traffic? That's probably the best excuse ever to be drunk on duty.

This guy wasn't directing traffic though. Subby made the traffic part up.

My cousin lost his paycheck for drinking on the job.
In other news, there is a job open at the sperm bank.

My biggest contract says I'm not to use drugs or alcohol during working hours "unless appropriate".

I love working in the entertainment industry.

Passed out in a car and he gets a public intoxication? All of us would get a DUI.

This plus the public intoxication and maybe a resisting just for cop laughs.

Exhausted from all the pissing.
Also 'can' beer, 'making love in a canoe' etc

What's missing from the story? BAC?

No DUI, I also call shenanigans.
Keys were in his pocket at best. That's DUI for most people/in most states.

Yeah... with this work from home shiat, drinking on the job isn't just for restaurant and bar staff anymore. And it isn't just for steel workers anymore. Or ad guys. Judges, teachers, airline pilots, air traffic control, cops, animators, construction workers, Fark's IT guys.. ok you know it'd be easier to list the jobs where people weren't geezed half the time.

Then I guess it's ok.

Us lowlife scum civilians would end up in jail for a few weeks now that arraignments are mostly suspended for COVID,  rather then getting a "courtesy" summons for administrative charges the way this hero did.

If I was passed out and armed with all the crazy weapons that cops think they need to cary with them, than I think that public intoxication would be a sweet plea. Oh, wait, it wasn't a plea. Anyone else would probably be a terrorist for the DA to drag through the justice system as a trophy.

Sigh. Theres this thing called like 'ethics' or some such. 2 out of the 30 PDHs I have complete every 2 years is ethics.  Drinkin' while engineerin' is a big no no. Now...
Off the clock? That is a different story.

in all fairness most cops are drunks. it goes hand in hand with spousal abuse, divorce and having no friends that are not cops. self loathing and bullying goes without saying.

This guy has gotta be police union, if not he's got potential.

Fark12, ACB, etc

I love how he stands up for any shiatbag cop, even one passed out on duty.

fark man, can't you see?

Cop TV has taught me that police drink Jameson pretty much constantly.

Chief Carl Ritchie immediately fired Kinard. The former sergeant was charged with public intoxicated and was released on a Courtesy Summons.
"The criminal consequences are consistent with those a non-law enforcement member of our community would be exposed to and we should not be expected to be treated differently in this circumstance. I am very disappointed that one of our police supervisors would conduct himself in this manner," Ritchie said.

Yeah, sure, make fun of this guy sitting on your comfy couches in your safe homes.
It's people like him that worry about making it home at night.
People like him that have family members worried if they'll survive another day or get found dead on the street.

/mostly from the drinking and driving

Was his vehicle on?  If his vehicle was on he should be charged with DWI.

He was just stressed out because he wasn't allowed to go out and beat enough people. Give him a break.

IDK, I know a lot of people who have gotten basically the same treatment from the cops when they were drunk but not actually driving the car or trying to fight people, often without even the public intoxication charge.  It all depends on region in the US, some police departments really aren't that bad... although having the "right" complexion certainly doesn't hurt.

Also, keep in mind, the two cops that found him brought him into the station.  So either he was just that dick everybody hated on the other side of the thin blue line, or they might actually be honest here.

Retired Supervisor from the Denver metro area. So maybe a buddy of the accused.
