That's terrifying.  Thought it was going to be him standing out near a metal goal or something, but nope.

I hope he didn't come off his line early.

The club's general director Igor Mayorov said he was stunned by what occured.

I'll say, it looked pretty shocking.

I suspect, but based on no actual knowledge, that were he standing in the goal mouth and lightning struck the posts, the shortest path to earth would be along the crossbar and down the uprights.

The posts and crossbar in England are made of wood, but most everywhere else they seem to be made out of aluminum.

Football commentary calls the posts "the woodwork", but I'm pretty sure most goalposts are metal these days. Here's a site with some background on that.

But even so, even with wooden posts, the path of least resistance would still be through the posts rather than through a person standing air-gapped underneath them, no?

There is a reason why Chi-Chi Rodriguez, as soon as he even heard thunder, would immediately stop playing golf and *run* for the clubhouse, no matter how distant that thunder was or what his score for that round was, even if he had to forfeit the rest of the round and eat penalties.

I thought Chi-Chi was the guy who would hold a 1-iron up in the air in a thunderstorm, because "even God can't hit a 1-iron"?
