I didn't know they started doing that.  Still, the desire for FREE information over relevant information creates terrible information.  Trusts that the Fark headline tells you enough and think about what it was like having to wait until 7:00 PM every night to hear four to five top stories On TV if you didn't want To pay for a newspaper.

Maybe you should have taken that money you spent on a news aggregator and put it towards an actual news site?

Oh, is that so?

You really see nothing wrong with the New York Times and Washington Post locking their articles behind paywalls, while FoxNews, OANN, and Drudge Report are 100% free?

You see NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT AT ALL?! That's literally how we got into this farking "fake news" pit in the first farking place!  If you make relevant correct information hard to get, people are going to turn to the information that doesn't have a barrier to access!

I'm fairly certain that most relevant news from The Washington Post and The New York Times eventually finds its way onto free sites.  It usually takes a day or two.  Right-wing propaganda deliberately mis-represented as journalism is another issue entirely, and a moral crime too since it has resulted in so many deaths.  Nobody who watches FoxNews will be persuaded by facts in a Times investigative report or an opinion piece in the Washington Post by a Senator that Fox wasn't conspiring with.

It's not that parents don't want to spend time with their children.  It's that they want their children to be educated, aren't professional teachers, and oh also by the way, need to work jobs themselves in order to earn money to, you know, survive.

You fail to appreciate that it isn't spending time with the kids (which most parents would love), it's trying to balance the added time of child-care with the existing jobs that have reopened and do little to nothing to accommodate the unusual circumstances.  Ever try running an important phone call with a young child bawling because she fell, or feeling like you're failing as a parent because you had to prop said child in front of the tv yet again so you could deal with a "fire" at work?  Those are the things that add stress, not the kids themselves.

Yeah, we should do something about that--like start raising our own kids again, and living with less, so that our children aren't raised by daycares.

But that idea seems to fill everyone with rage. So the point stands--we hate the world we created, but can't think of any other way to live, due to the massive programming we all receive, telling us that we're perfect just the way we are--big fat pigs who never have enough, and are never satisfied. The only way to life satisfaction is to keep taking more, and making more. You weren't satisfied then, and you aren't satisfied now, and you never will be. And that's how we think we're supposed to live.

/It's over, mindless consumers. It's finally farking over. And that doesn't fill me with rage AT ALL.
//And I"m paying more than you for it, too.

You could of course give the useful details of how to "inspect the element" and how to "delete modal" for the lay audience. You know, if you were someone that wanted to be helpful.

But it would seem more like you just want to brag that you know how to, and let the web know, if only yall were as smart as me you could too...

PvtStash: You could of course give the useful details of how to "inspect the element" and how to "delete modal" for the lay audience. You know, if you were someone that wanted to be helpful.

Let's try one for example:

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/07/what-camp-people-are-losing-summer/613807/

With Javascript off, the "Subscribe now" button never appears. With Javascript on, it gets bigger and smaller as you page up/down through the article.

On Firefox, if you hovering anywhere over the blue box at the bottom of the screen, right-click, you'll probably see "Inspect Element" as a menu option. You'll be taken to whatever element in the page you were hovering over. Where I am, that's a "div class="c-nudge__subscribe-container c-nudge-reg__subscribe-container" which sure looks like something a webdev might want your to see, but you probably don't want to see. So either hit the DEL key or right-click over the blue-highlighted element, and click "Delete Node"

Aaw, shucks, it's gone, but "This is your last free article" is still there. That's a "class="c-nudge__compressed-anchor c-nudge__login--bordered js-accounts-modal js-login-click-compressed""

Noticing a pattern here?

)This is where some insider knowledge comes in handy. In marketingspeak, a "nudge" is what you or I would call "a farking annoying nag box." It's intended to "nudge" the consumer towards what the marketroid desires it to do.)

So let's not recursively crawl through this mess of CSS element by element. Let's take la look at what else is in the box. Scroll up a few lines and you'll see that the whole shebang is a nested container of DIVs marked by c-nudge. We probably don't wanna see any of them. If we delete the outermost one, all the ones that it contains will be deleted along with it. And now they're all gone.

While we're at it, that farking sticky navigation logo up at the top? The things that use the CSS position:fixed attribute to stick on the page and waste your vertical space as you try to scroll up/down? Don'tcha just hate those dickbars? So as long as we're here, let's scroll up until we see "nav id="main-navigation--lacroix" class="c-nav c-nav--ma", delete that node, and poof, some farking webdev's hamburger menu and logo bar are also gone, and scrolling works like it should.
