(Politico)   The sudden presence of GOP figures on Parler has caused concern that the social media platform may just become a right-wing version of the "safe space" culture they widely mock, with plenty of MAGA stars, but few big names from across the ideological spectrum   (politico.com) divider line

The right wing has always wanted its safe space, FOX news and OAN are examples of this.  Also when they get these safe spaces where they can say whatever is on their mind, it's usually the most horrible bigoted stuff you can imagine.  Which, of course, is going to drive away the people who don't want to be associated with that stuff.  So it's an awfulness feedback loop.

2020-07-06 8:34:45 AM
It IS exactly that.

That's the f*cking point. It's an echo chamber, and that is what it's designed to be, to keep the faithful from hearing uncomfortable truths.

Concern? Try design.

The right wing can only exist in an echo chamber.
Once their views face any sort of logical scrutiny, their whole position dissolves.
This is also why they tend to hate science, scientists, and college professors.

None of those people have left Twitter unfortunately. They throw little shiat fits threatening to but they don't which leaves the question, how can we miss you when you won't go away?

They intend to use Parler to craft the message, and Twitter to disseminate it.

They want to win the culture war but they haaaaaaate the culture. They'd be fine with the culture if it wasn't for the blacks, and the gays, and the immigrants, and the trans people, and the music, and the clothing, and the food, and the...

Why? Do they think we can't see them on the internets? You can click on Breitbart and see the same thing.

Look nobody except MAGAts want to listen to other MAGAts. Any social media space where they gain dominance will meet the exact same fate. Right next to /redpill

Testing the talking points in a purely right wing echo chamber probably won;t work as well as they imagine.

2020-07-06 9:07:43 AM
They can't stick it to the libs if there are no libs to stick it too. Maybe it's for the best, every time they think they score some points for their side it's based on in-jokes that only they think are funny or relevant to anything and only proves to everyone else how ridiculous they are

Ehe, you can shape the statue of liberty out of a pile of shiat, but it's still just a pile of shiat.

I got banned from Parler for making my account name IvankaTrump.  I didn't even get to post.

I thought "Parler" was French and Gay.  Then again, they didn't mind calling themselves "Tea Baggers."

2020-07-06 9:26:45 AM
Why don't they just stick to 4chan? That way they can spout their hate and look up their kiddie porn in their own safe space. It's custom-built for them.

2020-07-06 9:27:46 AM
Jesus, they already live in a safe space where they ignore anything they don't want to hear.  What could this possibly change?

Stop trying to make Parler happen.  It's not going to happen.

Snowflake Central it is then. Enjoy wide-ranging political discussion, from Charlie Kirk to Candace Owens to Tucker Carlson to Ben Shapiro.

4chan booted the worst of them so they went to 8chan, and even they had issues over there.

Genuinely surprised they haven't stuck with Gab which is exactly what Parler is marketing itself as except it isn't ashamed of what a garbage fire of hate it is. Parler is trying to claim it is completely Free Speech while having to delete all the stuff where they have to say "no, not like that though."

How are they going to stay afloat with all the economic turmoil?  On site advertising perhaps or are they just going to harvest their users in more subtle ways?

mattj1984: Who tf wants to hang out with them??

The other republicans that no one wants to hang out with.  It's kind of like that section of wall at the prom where the losers with no dates hang out, telling each other that the whole idea of a prom is stupid.

4chan is already an incubator for their vile ideas. Why need a second?

2020-07-06 9:33:56 AM
"The question is not pure engagement. The question is influence," said Will Chamberlain, the editor-in-chief of the populist magazine Human Events. "Twitter is interesting because there's so many people, prominent people, that can be influenced. Parler is not that."

This clown appears to be unaware that the entire conservative movement is driven by a marketing grift. The only influencing they want to do is separating conservatives from their money, and here's a nice place to post ads and purchase contact lists from.

2020-07-06 9:34:39 AM
They'll try anything as long as it doesn't involve listening and actually engaging someone that disagrees with them.

Because part of the point is they want people they can either try to trigger, or recruit. And it's hard to recruit for your local white power chapter when everyone around you is already a member.

When I was young we called it "church". Conservative safe spaces are as old as dirt.

Data harvesting.  What better way to raise a crop of easily led tools?

I'm torn: on one hand, Parler will be filled with the worst of society and no doubt a toxic dump of horrific viewpoints. OTOH, does this make it easier for the FBI to track down domestic terrorists?

2020-07-06 9:37:02 AM
Yeah, but last week, didn't they kick all of the libs off?

Are they actual self aware enough to understand that they won't be heard outside of the echo chamber or just upset they can't trigger snowflake libs?

Things the GOP has long loved: safe spaces, cancel culture, taking offense at any opinion not their own, political correctness.

When they accuse the left of doing these things, it's just a hypocritical weaponization. The whole point of conservatism is a refusal to tolerate other opinions and ways of living.

While also offering a cash price to the most prominent liberal who would join and bring their followers from Tweeter

EvilEgg: The right wing has always wanted its safe space

Wanted?  Wanted?!  They have always had their safe space.  That is what things like slavery and Jim Crow are all about.  They can't compete on a level playing field - or even compete at all - so they have made sure they were always protected from fair play and the consequences of their actions.  The bellyaching and whining about "safe space", "cancel culture", "socialisms", and "political correctness" boils down to "I have to survive on my own merits and that's unfair because I have none".  The one time they got called on their bullshiat, they were able to score some easy points because the North was still more interested in mollycoddling them than winning. But once Grant decided to take the gloves off and beat the little sissies in earnest, they caved like little biatches.  Even the supposed God of All Generals, Lee, folded once someone was willing to go bareknuckles on his soft Southern ass only used to whoopin slaves he could tie down.  Only reason those farks didn't die out from chronic incompetence is that the Republicans were more interested in winning a Presidential election than following the Constitution.

2020-07-06 9:41:16 AM
If they're really offering $20,000 for actual live accounts from progressives, you can be damn sure they already have an army of "liberal" trolls and bots on the payroll to chum the waters for all the frenzied MAGAts there.

When the right does it, it's "making their voices heard against the oppression of the leftist lamestream media."

When the left does it, it's LOL DAMN LIBS NEED A SAFE SPACE FROM THE TRUTH.

Isn't it obvious?

(1) The idea of prom is stupid.

(2) Even the losers on the wall are more socially-adept and human than a Republican, so don't associate us with those coonts.

They're not getting people from "across the ideological spectrum" because the premise of the site only works for dumbasses. Parler is advertised as the place where you can't get censored, but only dumb, dumb, dumb people think that getting tweets removed by a non-government entity for being racist is censorship.

Only right-wingers are going because they don't understand the actual law. They're children.

2020-07-06 9:43:30 AM
Everything they hate, (which is basically every farking thing) is an expression of freedom in general and free speech in particular. Anyone who doesn't realize that these farkers are just hate filled morons in a death cult, who create shiat like OAN and Parler because they can't exist in polite society has not been paying attention.

2020-07-06 9:45:25 AM
No one loves to ban wrong-think more than conservatives.   Their idea of 'persecution' is people disagreeing with them.  "You're an idiot no one should listen to"   "HOW DARE YOU TAKE AWAY MY FREE SPEECH!"
