Garrik would be a skilled liar.  Donnie has no skill, he just makes shiat up at all times because he thinks it's easier than learning anything.

I could see him either being a terrifying president or a kind of doofy but inoffensive one. Depends on whether it's "former assassin/spy Garak" or "shopkeeper Garak".

The paperback novel with his true backstory says that his exile to DS9 was because he had an affair with a woman married to a Gul... and more offensive to the Obsidian Order, he didn't even make a contingency plan in case the affair was discovered.

Garak would never run for President.

He'd be the President's personal tailor (and the most powerful man in the world to those few in the know)

I can remember on two separate occasions that I "won the internet today", and this is over the course of the last 25 years.  Given the billions of internet users I feel pretty good about that although I'm still not in Takei's league.

Now how about a dancing baby?  Have you seen this?  So funny!

Well, they let the actor who played him write the novel love letter to Dr.Bashir, after the show ended.

Robinson and Siddig also wrote a lovely gay play where Garak and Bashir admit their love for each other. It's not a joke, either. It's quite a serious look at their awful childhoods.

Very true.  Tailor and spy were never mutually exclusive roles for Garak, and he always did prefer to act through intermediaries when possible.

For anyone interested, BBC America airing "In the Pale Moonlight," (one of Garak's finest episodes, in my opinion) right now (9am ET).

It's soo ironic that as I type this, the BBCA channel is showing DS9: In The Palemoon Light, which shows you everything you need to know about Garak. And it's also particularly impressive when you realize that it was his plan all along.

Just finished watching it, still so good.  They're showing "His Way" right now, which is less good, but it did give us Nana Visitor singing "Fever:"

Andrew Robinson, who played Garak, is one of my favourite actors on the show (along with Armin Shimerman, who played Quark). His delivery of lines, and some of the story lines featuring him as the main were great TV).

Apparently he's held stints in both stage, and film, as well as the fine arts director at USC. Class act.

The doofy and inoffensive Garrak is the sugary soating for the assassin/spy Garrak. One makes the other possible.

I saw a good article about him in the New York Times (I think, it might have been the L.A. Times) about 10 years ago, this was shortly after he'd helped start USC's acting M.A. program.  Really interesting guy.  Since you brought up Garak and Quark, the rules of the internet mandate that the root beer scene be posted:

Thing is after Dirty Harry, you didn't see him for years.
He made that character so despised and he was so known for it, he couldn't get much work in media.
I believe the stage saved him.

Garrak would probably be a superb politician and leader. That would be an interesting show, like the West Wing, with more exploding ambassadors.

Garrard would make a terrible politician, he however would make an excellent chief of staff.

I totally forgot about him in Dirty Harry. I haven't seen that film in years...might be time for a re-watch. I actually have a cousin who was an extra in the film who played a "bad guy" that he shoots in a scene.
