I'm having a hard time caring about this mid-table end-of-season thingy. Maybe I'll check in the later for the relegation games.

Sheffield United still have a small chance at the European spots.

I would make some comment about how small those chances are, but then both would probably end up qualifying at the expense of Man Utd...

I dunno. UTD have seemingly transformed since the break. Certainly a vastly different looking team with Fernandes on the pitch.

Burnley goal means Sean Dyche will only eat one handful of gravel at the break.

Scarier than my predictive powers?

Seriously though - the front three including Greenwood look very good, and the midfield is finding its shape now. Both Martial and Pogba are much better for having support around them. But the defence still looks very vulnerable. If Utd could get one player over the summer mini-break, I would love to see a "take charge" central defender in the Vincent Company / Virgil van Dyke mould. But I don't know if there is anybody like that available.

But but...most expensive defender ever, Harry McGuire!

Very good defenders can still end up being #2 CBs. Just for Real, I can think of Raphael Varane and Ivan Helguera, who each won 2 CLs as the clear #2 to someone else.

It's rather foolish to have spent that much for a #2, but that's probably what his sort of natural role is.

Princip's Sandwich: It's rather foolish to have spent that much

...is Ed Woodward's personal motto

By the way, the Beeb posted this official explanation of the handball rule (http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct).

I'm having a hard time reconciling that with the way the law is being interpreted and applied. In particular, the "gains possession" part seems to be completely forgotten, and we see the rule being interpreted as "if the ball hits a hand or arm in the build-up to a goal, even if its accidental and/or no control resulted, it's a foul."

Afternoon all.

Moussaka lunch.

Egan ties the game up off a corner kick.
Short corner actually worked for once.
No one marking the back post for Burnley.
1-1

Sheffield UTD are going to be so boned next season if they have to let Henderson go back to Man U

& an equaliser

The erratic performances from De Gea are starting to make that look likely

I can imagine Wilder being offered De Gea on loan.

Apropos of nothing, I just discovered that I have ESPN+ as part of Disney+.

That's almost worthless, except the League One playoff games are apparently on ESPN+, which means I get to actually watch the MIGHTY Oxford United play tomorrow morning!
