Nobody can expect the painted words to remain pristine. The murals are a much larger work of art than words painted on the streets. The yellow letters are only the beginning of that art. The patina of rage that will follow (including the work of these two dipshiats) will be evolving for decades. Varying points of view will be represented. Layer upon layer applied in acts of rebellion will become a part of the American collage. This is a very good thing.

That's an actual crime these idiots just committed on camera, without masks.  The latter being amazingly stupid for two reasons.

The fines for this kind of shiat are usually something like the cost to replace the damaged property multiplied by two or three, they're... probably on the hook for over 10k$ for that shiat, closing down a street ain't cheap even if the crew doing the work is.

... hope it was worth it, I guess.  Dumbasses.


It actually gets better. If she painted over any of the lane lines/marking in her attempt to obliterate the mural, she could also be charged under Vehicle Code Section 21464 VC (defacing or interfering with a traffic control device), which at its lowest level is a fine of up to $5k, and if it can be proved to have contributed to a fatal accident, can rise to the level of being a felony.

The cops not bothering to even show up tells you all you need to know about the cops thoughts on BLM.

Here in Charlotte, we had an asshat do a burn out over the mural at 2AM. He bragged about it on FB and eventually deleted his account. The protests were still nightly. They were over for that night but would be back for at least a week. I can guarantee you there were cops all over uptown Charlotte 24/7. They are normally. No way, no how do the cops not notice someone doing a two-block long farking burnout. Not many cars can do that, shouldn't be hard to figure out which one did it. I've done burnouts like that. It leaves a HUGE cloud of smoke, Tryon st is a canyon of skyscrapers. That noise had to be deafening.

No arrests, CMPD is investigating.

The mural got repainted the next day and the city put concrete barriers on both ends. It's a pedestrian zone indefinitely.

I'll own that. My mistake.

My point is: they do not consciously say to themselves "I am being oppressed". They do not feel their privilege taken away feels like oppression because they do not feel that their rights are being taken away nor do they feel like their privilege is being taken away.

Even though I agree that "when privilege is taken away, it feels like oppression." It does. And for some of them, the idiots who complain "only Black people can be racist nowadays", yeah, those few have actually made the correct connection: they have had privilege others have not for their entire lives. Of course, even the moron who makes even that connection doesn't understand where his privilege comes from or even that the privilege exists as a priveldge.

But I digress.

Well, as I stated much earlier upthread (not that I expect you to have it at the ready, or that it was somehow noteworthy - I'm just saying), if the initial premise of your worldview is that all racism in America was technically eliminated with The Emancipation Proclamation, it's difficult to acknowledge BLMs position that Black Lives specifically Matter - his position is that BLMs position is ludicrous and some kind of power grab because All Lives Matter, not just the black ones.

Therefore in his mind, something else is up - some kind of power grab, some kind of "special right", some kind of agenda that will benefit them and harm him in the Zero-Sum game that is his worldview. And he obviously sees their success and currency in recent years combined with the madness of the moment and rather than them being dismissed, it's being advanced.

Anyways, somewhere in all that foolishness he perceives some type of either loss, or fear of a loss. But to perceive Black folk in America, your fellow citizens, receiving attention to an issue the feel is existential, as a situation where you fear that you are losing something is a) kind of me-me-me self centered, and; b) an unjustified, racially based emotion - generally a dictionary based definition of "racism"

You might think its glib, but I've been having these conversations for 35 years - I just get to the marrow of the bone. Some folks - and I'm not singling you out, here - feel more comfortable having there be a more complex, nuanced reason for racist behavior - in a different timeline he might be a recognizable and relatable character, so it's hard to just say "oh, it's all racism" - but so often that's all it really is. Sometimes its benign and ineffectual. Sometimes it decidedly not - but it's just baked-in racism.

Good news is that no one is irredeemable.

Wait, seriously?  They aren't even locals?  I thought that they were like some disgruntled local Trumpers who didn't want to have to look at it every day, similar to Pacific Heights Karen who didn't like the chalk BLM stencil.  WTF?!  I thought it was the dirty libs who were supposed to have the crisis actors.  Will Faux News and OANN be showing these brave heroes all day?

Came here for this. Who the hell wears an ankle-length black skirt when painting something on the ground outside? She'll spend all day tripping over herself in that, not to mention sweating her ass off. The smart thing would have been to wear some cheap loose jeans, but I guess that just wasn't fashionable. Plus instead of using a tray/5 gallon bucket and dipping the roller, she just dumps a pile of paint in one spot on the ground and tries to spread it around. Amateur hour painting all the way.

Therefore in his mind, something else is up - some kind of power grab, some kind of "special right", some kind of agenda that will benefit them and harm him in the Zero-Sum game that is his worldview. And he obviously sees their success and currency in recent years combined with the madness of the moment and rather than them being dismissed, it's being advanced.

Anyways, somewhere in all that foolishness he perceives some type of either loss, or fear of a loss. But to perceive Black folk in America, your fellow citizens, receiving attention to an issue the feel is existential, as a situation where you fear that you are losing something is a) kind of me-me-me self centered, and; b) an unjustified, racially based emotion - generally a dictionary based definition of "racism"

You might think its glib, but I've been having these conversations for 35 years - I just get to the marrow of the bone. Some folks - and I'm not singling you out, here - feel more comfortable having there be a more complex, nuanced reason for racist behavior - in a different timeline he might be a recognizable and relatable character, so it's hard to just say "oh, it's all racism" - but so often that's all it really is. Sometimes its benign and ineffectual. Sometimes it decidedly not - but it's just baked-in racism.

Good news is that no one is irredeemable.


His bizarre, probably willfully ignorant view, that it all ended with the Emancipation Proclamation shows that he, like many, desperately needed to learn about what Juneteenth celebrates; that the proclamation wasn't enough and had to be followed up with action, action which is still required almost 140 years later.

Also, this supposed feeling of loss is just as you say.  It's the result of pretty much zero ability to actually analyze a subject, instead reacting almost strictly based on emotion; you know, the thing they accuse the liberals of doing.  Like most while people, that's a man and woman with zero actual power, but they have some feeling that if PoC are treated equally to them it means that they are inferior, that PoC are getting special treatment.  There is no rational thought process going on, no analysis of the reality of the situation, and I'm not sure that they are even capable.  I'd like to think that I could say to them, "As one white person to another, you aren't losing anything, this is about pulling people up and leveling the playing field.", but the video makes it pretty clear that they aren't interested in listening and there are millions of people like them; basically every remaining Trump supporter.  There election isn't going to make them disappear either.  They are a huge damned problem.  Sadly, maybe COVID-19 is the solution.

Wouldn't be too hard. With the sunlight shining down on it like that in the middle of summer on hot pavement, if it's just latex the paint would likely be mostly dry in about 5 minutes, especially with black paint. It might smear together here and there if you put down a new layer on top of it that soon, but it'd be dry enough for a new coat if you're not too particular.

Entire counties like San Diego with tens of millions of people are entirely Trump. Even San Francisco has become far more Trump-loving as the ultra wealthy are the only ones that can afford to live there anymore and the ultra wealthy are not known for the compassionate Liberalism. For every lady like this awful creature there are thousands more, all white, all armed, all pissed off at everyone not like themselves.
