Also. Living on the Mass/NH border, I have to say that Mass drivers are the worst.

I have to disagree. Illinois drivers suck EVERYWHERE. Barely a day goes by when some asshat(s) don't know or care that the far left lane is for passing. Not to mention the almost daily accident on I-80 that turns a normally reasonable commute to rubbernecking hell. We just can't have nice things here.

There's nothing nice about Illinois. Nothing.

Busier roads have more deaths overall but fewer deaths per mile driven. So dense states are going to look better if you measure per mile. How about looking at death rates for city drivers in rural areas?

NINEv2: twat_waffle: germ78: It's not my fault the slow left lane drivers in Illinois all have Wisconsin plates, subby. If you're in the left lane, you'd better be driving fast enough to overtake the traffic in the right lane in a reasonable amount of time. None of this rolling roadblock shiat that I keep seeing happening.

/Illinois driver
//drives aggressively when needed

This. It's not my fault that Sconnies don't know how to use the passing lane. Almost every time I pass someone on the right, it's a farking Sconnie.

Yep.

And as far as the rest of the state, it's the suburbanite jackasses that are the most dangerous. Downtown Chicago: aggressive but predictable. Anywhere else in the state: not enough people.

Yeah, pretty much. Rockford drivers drive like they think Chicago drivers drive, but they don't really know shiat about driving in Chicago. Then they say they won't drive in Chicago because Chicago drivers are psychotic.

The first time I took my friends to Chicago, they were white knuckling the Jesus handles like they were on a rollercoaster. Meanwhile, I'm merging perfectly, going the speed of traffic, and changing lanes like a farking boss on the Kennedy as we approach the Circle and then get on the Ike. To be fair, I learned city driving in Toronto, which isn't as forgiving as Chicago.

/Chicago cabbies ARE psychotic, though
//And the speed limits are a joke

Black drivers are pretty predictable and cautious. Asians tend to be aggressive, stopping too quickly at red lights (I've nearly ran up the back of a few). Latin folks think stop signs are a suggestion. Elderly...well you don't know if they are going to hit the gas or the brakes.

And of course, we privileged Crackers think we own the road.

That's because we've got to slalom through the expressways. You guys like to hang out in the passing lane. Seriously, every time I've driven from Beloit to Madison I've had to pass more people on the right than on the left.

Now that the interstate going out of Madison is three lanes it's so much smoother.

Sure, you're always gonna have that asshat driving 65 in the left lane but at least now it's easier to pass.

Drove from Madison to my parents house in SE WI this weekend and it was smooth sailing.  YMMV and all..

There's still construction starting south/east of I-43 and going north/west. It looks like they're widening that stretch of the expressway.

when I moved to RI for grad school many moons ago, my housemate told me RI drivers were the worst -- as he had lived in FL and NYC, I was truly surprised.
"Here's the thing," he said. "If you're driving down a one way in NYC and someone is coming at you the other direction, you know they're trying to kill you. In RI, they're like 'doot de doo...oh, hi there! doot de doo...'" The cluelessness factor of RI drivers was verifiable over my two years there.

I spent 2 months on business in TX driving all over from Dallas to Houston to Laredo to San Antonio to Austin back to Dallas and finally Houston for a month.  Good God was Houston a nightmare.  All the main highways were under construction.  Lanes stopped and started for no reason.  Fark whatever was going on with the Katy Freeway.  This was in the mid aughts so I have no idea if Katy ever got done or if any of it ever got better.  Ive driven in most major cities outside of CA, Ive lived in NYC metro area and lived a lot of my life in southish Florida and that whole Houston experience is the one that sticks out as totally awful.

It's not a state but Philadelphia has the worst drivers of any place in which I have lived.  That place was thunderdome. The only place where I have frequently seen what I have since dubbed the "Philadelphia U-turn", whereby on any road, at any part of the road, in any traffic condition, at any time of day, regardless of trailing or opposing traffic, a driver will, without warning or blinker, make a quick and sudden U-turn because they decided that very second they wanted to be traveling the opposite direction.

When I've seen them use the insurance industry data for accidents to get an article doing a ranking like this, we get different states/cities. But according to this article, Mississippi has a ton of uninsured drivers, so that might skew the results from these kinds of numbers. All I know is that the past few years, the insurance industry rankings tends to have VA, DC and MD somewhere in the top 10. So basically DC is a perfect storm of shiat drivers.

Massachusetts drivers are shiatty drivers who most likely got their driver's license from the back of a Fruity Pebbles cereal box.

I liked driving in Las Vegas (back when I lived there in the 90s) because 1) the roads everywhere were so wide and pretty much in good shape, that there was room for all drivers; 2) Las Vegas Blvd was so full of traffic, how was anyone gonna speed on the Strip or drive poorly?

I've been to 47 states, having driven in them all. Above and beyond: Massholes are the worst, IMHO. What other state has people who think its ok to pull out HALF WAY into a road and stop traffic?  Right of way to a Masshole translates to 'MY Right of way'.

Massholes.

Yeah? Try being a pedestrian in Center City Philadelphia. As a Farkette, would have a purse, or backpack, whilst traipsing through the city. And, as I would cross, with the light in my favor as a pedestrian, sling either large purse or back pack into my right hand, staring hard at the semi-stopped cars, willing, ready 'n able to slam my purse/backpack onto their vehicle if they decided to knee cap me as I was trying to cross the street. Say at.....16th and Walnut.
U turns? Hah.....try avoiding 'em when they're backing up, on Sansom street (one way), for....reasons.....

CSB: True story. So, heading outta Philly on 95 north, just past the bridge. Nice Summer day. Couple of dudes come along side, wanting to know how to get to NYC. An' I jus' knew they were soooo lost, no way would they get to NYC easily off of I95 in Philly. I remember have a great map in the glove compartment, shout at 'em to wait a minute, tells my friend to slow down (he's driving, I'm a passenger), get the map, yell at the dudes, "take this, no way is 95 taking you to NYC!" Hope they made it.

Yes you zipper merge at the point it is intended not before because that makes it worse, you slow the line and then more cars pass you on the right.  I have gotten into many disagreements when I was a passenger and they were stupid and merged way too early.

As bad as the drivers are in Portland, Salem has it's own special drivers - I have lived in 13 states and driven in all of the 48 contiguous states and have never seen so many people run red lights as here.  When we moved down, I quickly developed the habit of waiting a second or two before entering an intersection.  Honk all you want, bro.

Every city seems to have a specialty though:
Portland - driving at night without headlights.
Las Vegas - making left turns from the right lane.
LA area - passing on the right, even if it means driving on the shoulder.

So, my day-job is at the DMV in Las Vegas, and lemme tellya, NV's place there is totally accurate.

'Round 2015, 1 in 8 drivers in this state weren't insured. We hand out suspensions for insurance lapses like candy. Tons of titles I process have a suspended reg at the other end (suspensions don't follow the cars, it's the combo of that person and that car).

And they all act surprised about it when we tell them it's suspended, after 2 letters and like,6 weeks or so of notice.

And our reinstatement sections sees huge numbers of interlocs because of all the DUIs.

Oh, and signals are optional out here, apparently,

It's a total shiatshow, I also warn new motorcyclists to get LED kits because damned if drivers pay attention to where your ass is.

Anyone not adding GA to the top of the shiat pile has never driven in GA.  We regularly destroy our interstates, speed limit signs are mere suggestions, and half an inch of precipitation causes pandemonium.

Anyone that gets on the interstates had better drive 75 no matter what and better do 50 on surface streets.  Otherwise, you are a road hazard and we will run you over.  Pedestrians are also a favored target.

And anyone that has moved here from another state just makes it worse, because they all insist on telling us how much better it is back home.  Well, go the hell back there.

I'd strongly disagree with your texas.  Texas has to be one of the worst places I've ever driven.  If a right turn lane was completely packed I saw countless people either use the straight lane or left turn lane (if it was T intersection) to bypass traffic and then turn right from lanes.  People would use onramps to bypass traffic.  People driving 5 under in left lane on highway.  If someone actually used a turn signal it was a pleasant surprise.  Stopping before turning on red?  Ha.  That's a joke.  People just turning into traffic without looking or just not caring if someone had to slam on breaks to avoid t-boning them.

It's like every texas driver was the embodiment of "don't mess with texas" except they are individually texas.  They just didn't not give a fark and would act like they're the most important thing around and everyone else had to bend to their needs.

Going exactly the flow of traffic with no room to really go any faster or not?  Tailgate you to get you out of their way like you're the one holding up traffic.

I've never seen so many red light runners and I've spent years living in and driving in chicago

I'd take NY, NJ, or california drivers any farking day.
