I'm a life long fan and I support this move. I quit buying and wearing the Chief Wahoo logo about five years before they quasi-eliminated it. (It was used in this year's draft signing ceremony.)

I think the Cleveland Grays would be a great name. A drab name for a drab city.

Soccerhead: Bring back the Cleveland Spiders?

This was my initial thought as well.

Although I thought the fuss was over the Chief Wahoo logo not the nickname. Are we just going to no longer pay tribute to our indigenous people out of a over-woke sense of guilt? I could get behind a name change like Natives or Tribe or something along those lines, but I think erasing even the memory of their people is a bit too far to the PC side even for me.

Wahoo was already dropped. And as one of those natives, I'm fine with the chiefs, the braves, and I don't even mind the redskins name all that much (though I would mind them less if they didn't suck so much). All that said, fark cleveland.

Uh, I wouldn't go so far as to say Wahoo is gone. As pointed out above, the logo was used again this year in some capacity by the team and they continue to hold the copyright on it.

Redskins has got to go.

Indians should go because the name, if I'm not mistaken, came from calling Native Americans Indians because they thought they had landed in India...?

Braves and Chiefs I don't mind, but as a white male it's not really my call.

Odd that ND had to drop Fighting Sioux and yet the Fighting Irish continues...

Generally sports are kinda rediculous.  I mean the New Orleans Peli

Indians might not be the best word, but any real issue is the logo.  Same thing with Edmonton Eskimos.  There's no Eskimo logo, and the Inuit don't really care, only asking visit the Inuit more cause they like the Edmonton Eskimos.

Also I believe Indian comes from Indios, the Spanish name for native inhabitants, even in Asia.

Bring most of the Americas were spanish for a long time, then the English came, they simply adopted Indios and turned it into Indian.

St the time wasn't it Hindustan?

Because the NCAA did a study and found that when Indians were hanged in effigy on fraternity row prior to a game against a team with a native mascot, test results for native students at that University dropped for over a week on average, while hanging Irish in effigy didn't result in test scores dropping among Irish descendents on campus.

It's like marginalized peoples might react differently to stuff like pre-game rituals targeting them.

I'd be curious if that test covered many Troubles descendents or witnesses.

Of course, effigies may not be the Irish's thing, so that for American cultural appropriation determining why other nations can't be offended at something.
