I imagine we'd keep the AK border crossings open, because it's unlikely anyone is coming down from there to go to Banff/Jasper or Kelowna/Nelson, but the southern border will likely be the issue (except you'd still be free to leave, we can't really keep you here).

Counterpoint:  the "MY FREEDOMS!!!" people in Alaska make those Florida assholes look like chumps when it comes no refusing to wear masks.  If I were Canada, I'd think twice about letting us in at all.

In the bush, people have for the most part been doing a really good job of wearing masks and being safe.  I'm missing traveling the alcan this summer to visit friends like I normally would.  Hopefully dumb people don't wreck it for next year.

It's easier and more natural to socially distance in the bush. That's the whole point of living in the Alaskan bush.

In some instances, yeah.  YK delta here, so by bush I mean far from road system, not a cabin in the sticks.  Communities are still tight knit, probably moreso than most places I've been.  People are staying distant.  Store, PO, transportation-basically any place people need to be in proximity, everyone is using masks.  The one exception I see, and I see it often, is among children.  They play ball every day, nary a mask among them.  Once a couple children catch covid, I'm afraid the shiat will hit the fan with gusto.

Oh yeah - when are talking about interior villages...

One of our local Native villages had a tribal meeting back in March where the Elders talked about how entire villages were wiped out during the 1916-18 flu, and how the only villages that weren't wiped out were the ones that didn't let outsiders stop there.  They actually put a chain across the road and posted armed guards to keep outsiders from entering.  It was hilarious - the local police chief (I call him gel-bro, because he keeps the US hair product manufacturing industry in business single-handed) went out there and told them they can't block the road.  They told him he was standing on Chilkat land and cordially invited him to go f*ck himself.  He insisted it was a State road and they had to take the chain down and couldn't guard it.  They reminded him he was local police, and they were outside his defined patrol area, so defined after a huge fight between him and the Borough Assembly where he said he can't be expected to respond that far out from the townsite unless they raise his salary again and also his budget to include more officers.  He threatened.  He cajoled. He got really pissy.  Some say he actually cried.  And finally, he came back to town, face red with impotent rage, and was roundly mocked by all.  I don't think he has shown his face at the coffee shop yet, at least not during morning rush.

If you see an American who shouldn't be there (any tourists) then call CBSA. They'll be happy to fine them $1200.

Allegedly there's a boat from Florida that showed up in Halifax yesterday so I'm going to go down there after work today and yell at them.

Border services needs to start employing more snipers.  Shut the border down and execute all non Canadian citizens who try and enter.  No exceptions.

The whole world needs to lock down hard.  Mr. Nice guy rules has failed.  It is time for all the countries to start using Mr. You are going to wish you were dead rules.  We are at war people!  Stop treating corona virus like a day at the park.  Start dropping nukes on the hotzones and taking out the skinjobs and their hives.

If Americans aren't willing to do so then I suggest Canada build a wall to keep pesky Americans from entering their country and plaguing everyone.

BUILD THE WALL!!  BUILD THE WALL!!

Americans have every right to be in Canada, don't they? I mean they're fleeing an oppressive government. Just looking for the better life, right? Don't worry, they'll only take the jobs that you don't want to do.

I say close the border to non-commercial traffic.  There's a perfectly good auto ferry that runs between Seattle and Haines, AK if people don't want to fly.  Just don't let it dock in Canada.

I think Canada just needs to close the border to Americans not traveling for specific work, period. Why shouldn't they at this rate?

Sorry, Alaska, the chucklefarks ruined it for you.

No, we'd get a terrible case of cultural indigestion were we to do that.

We could burn down your White House again if you think that might help, though.

Long as you wear the proper hazard gear. Orange smoke can be hazardous to your health. Also watch out for the over hanging hair piece that will run out of the fire like the spider monster in The Thing movie. Don't want that getting away and starting the mess all over again.

Are you done huffing inhalants?

Your country added about 1/2 of the total cumulative cases Canada accrued over the span of the entire pandemic thus far in one day. We don't need to give back our hard-won gains in the pandemic because you have vacation itch to scratch.

We don't owe you anything, we don't need to take your citizenship holding 'refugees', nor do we have let in your entitled plague rats to visit our beautiful country. Unless you feel like spreading American Freedom at gunpoint here, like you do at home and countries that are far away and easy to bomb.

Americans, always the victims and aggressors; we get it, you feel ordained as the best people(tm). Thing is though, that doesn't make you special in anyone else's eyes. Certainly not mine.

That reminds me, I have an MP and MPP to write about the border. Keeping it closed due to plague ravaging our southern neighbours seems reasonable and prudent. I may even throw in a bit about sending medical supplies down as humanitarian aid. USA sure could use help.
