Well, DC has Snyder in a barrel.

You see, ol' Dan desperately wants the site of the old RFK Stadium so he can tear that down and build his new $1 Billion+ palace

The problem? DC has said, "You want the site, change the name."

That one feels like a serious shot fired. FedEx is big, but Nike's committed.

I don't know of any other reason why he should be such a stalwart defender of that stupid name, and I think he only resists because he's a rich asshole who can't stand to look as if he made a decision because people told him to,

Also, I think there's an example (locally even) that demonstrates how simple it is.  I think, at this point, most people don't even remember when the Washington Wizards were the Bullets.  And the people who know, don't care.  Sure, the team lacks support, but not because of their name change.  It's because they've been mismanaged for decades by a raging asshole.  Come to think of it, maybe Dan likes having the argument about the team name as a distraction from his other shortcomings

The CEO of FedEx  also owns a small part of the Washington football team. I bet that gives him a bit more leverage with Danny boy rather than just being a sponsor.

I sort of like the Washington Redtails suggestion.  But that probably won't happen since this was another name used during WWII for the Tuskegee airmen who were based in Alabama.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Tail_Squadron

Sadly, that's a double edged sword... it's not cash wholly out of Snyder's pocket.  All the merchandising revenue goes through NFL Business Ventures, which is owned equally by the 32 teams.  The impact on Snyder is near nothing financially, but it makes his 31 partners in NFLBV look bad... and they don't like being made to look bad.

Would he have any grounds to sue? Nike has the rights to use NFL logos, doesn't mean they have to.

Snyder is sitting on a GOLDMINE. If he changed the team name, think of all the fans buying the new merch.

[slightly relevant tangent]

Owners like him, Dolan (Knicks), and Jerruh are bad for sports. They think *they* are the story and all they do is meddle with potential success.

The league should step in and force a sale because Snyder continually fields a non-competitive team*. Dolan hasn't fielded a worthy team since dumping Ewing in 2000.

Same as Marge Schott and George Streinbrenner in the years between Misters October and November.

I'm sure the Browns and Lions wouldn't mind a competent ownership group.

If the owners think they're playing too, they should face the same risks for poor performance. If not taking their franchise away, make them pay for the postseason.

[/slightly relevant tangent]

Snyder still hasn't provided anything close to a valid reason to keep the team name, and he continually fails to read the room. In the larger context, real and fake billionaires seem to be quite out of touch with the vox populi.

On the lighter side, maybe owners should start naming teams with aspersions against white people. The Karens, Flatasses, Great White Fragiles, Inbred Hillbillies, Slowpokes, Insider Traders, Ponzi Schemers, Frivolous Lawsuits, Creepy Neighbors, Fratboy Chads, Lowjumpers, Bribers, Complainers, Participation Trophies, Tax Evaders, Embezzlers, Pretenders, Michael Boltons, Brunch Bunch, Serial Killers, Chickenhawks, Cheaters, Fortune Stealers, Bribers, Nepotism, and the Patriots.

* As a Giants fan, I acknowledge my team's ownership would be in jeopardy as well.

This is a team so forgettable that virtually every casual basketball fan has long forgotten that Michael Jordan played there. If they went from the Bullets to the Wizards to just not existing I don't think anyone would notice.

The only one I could see publicly supporting him is Jerry Jones. If they can hammer down Dan, they can hammer Jerry.

Historically, the Cowboys weren't always peaceful towards the Indians, so Jerry can change his damn name, too.

I have no love for Washington but I can admit the spear helmet is the best helmet in American football. Dan Snyder thinks the worst farking logo in the NFL is somehow better.

Let's see... We have the Wizards, Capitals, and Nationals. We could go along with the latter two and be the Washington Monuments or something. Or we could embrace the former and go with "Warriors." Then we just need to convice the Capitals and Nationals to change to Rogues and Druids and complete Nerd City.

...But I've actually always liked how some cities, like Pittsburgh, have a common color scheme for all their major teams. It's a unifying factor, y'know? Don't see why every DC team can't be something red-white-and-blue. Either Monuments or Warriors could work for that.

So yeah. If we're considering non-Karen, non-potato options, there's my 2 cents. (If FedEx really wants to improve things, though, maybe they'd also like to invest money in improving the crappy-ass stadium named after them that nobody likes and everyone wants torn down.)

I believe the NFL teams have a revenue sharing agreement regarding branded merch so this wouldn't hurt them at all.

Anyone suggesting "Warriors" as an alternative might want to check with Marquette.
