Our youngest cat came to us from the back yard.

I opened the back garage door and her head popped up from behind the yard clippings. She saw me and ran to me like I was her mommy. I noticed right away her deformed paws, poor baby. She wasn't interested in any food, just wanted me to pet her. Which I did, profusely, and then went back into the house, thinking she must belong to someone to be so friendly.

Well, the next day, she came running again and this time was very hungry. This went on for a couple more days and I finally decided that if she wasn't chipped, we were keeping her. Took her to the vet for a check up and to see about a possible chip. Turned out, no chip, but her feet were even more messed up than I thought.

Little kitty is polydactyl and some of her many claws were growing in circles into her flesh and her feet were damaged and infected. If I had not taken her in, she would have died from the infections. She has multitudes of claws, some very small and folded and tucked away inside extra flaps of claws. Some claws have three tips. It's bizarre and mutant.

Anyway, we keep her feet very well taken care of now (along with the rest of her tiny 8lb body) and she is simply the most loving and sweet cat we've ever had. However, she takes zero shiat from other animals, like our other two cats. Didn't have to worry about our big boy and girl beating up on the little one - she is feisty AF and staked her own claim in our house.

Agi has this issue, with 7 toes on each paw, and the front ones are a paw and a half, with the half pointing in towards the main paw). Vet recommended front declaw, because we couldn't trim them short enough to not dig into her skin. We caught it early on, tried things for a few months (nail caps didn't work. The plastic pressing in on her skin made it worse.) She is our chubby little Baby (Agi is Korean for baby), and no infections since.

i have a cat that comes by at all hours, so whenever i pass the back door i have to look for him.  i've gotten up at 6am and he's been there, i've woken up to go to the bathroom and he's there at 130am, and any time in between

he's been sporadic lately, the local foxes have him spooked.  he must be feral, i've been feeding him 2 years and he never lets me get anywhere near him.  if he's not hungry he doesn't even pay attention to me

That's how my parents acquired their last cat.  Mom was getting home one evening and this fluffy grey tabby comes running down the street (dead end) yowling her head off, comes running up the driveway and sits at my mom's feet.  Like "Well?  Where's my food?"  A most prolific hunter of mice and chipmunks.  Mom's been thinking about getting another cat since she can hear the mice in the walls now.

I like the variations on the theme, the two "My cat, NOT my house" images were fun foils
