Fark it-I'll say it:

I liked HBO's take on Westworld. And I thought the final season was amazing. Sure as shiat better than how GoT ended. JJ Abrams stayed very close to what Michael Crichton had envisioned, based on "Beyond Westworld" and "Futureworld", which Crichton wrote and directed, personally. Solid cast, great plot layering, and introduced some really cool ideas if you actually sit down and think about them.

I'm with you on this.  A lot of people would be perfectly happy with a bunch of seasons set in Westworld or maybe even a new "[X]world" each season but I'll take what they're doing over that more generic option.

Not to say S3 didn't have some problems but I'm not calling death on the series just yet.

So season one will be really good, but Reddit will have figured out all the story twists before they are revealed, so Nolan and Joy will make season two ridiculously convoluted and retconned just to stick it to Reddit, and then I won't even finish season three because it was so boring and the characters became smug charicatures of themselves from the dynamic interesting versions they were in season 1.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know if season 3 ended well or not.

It can't be worse than anything Bethesda has written. I mean it could, it's still 2020 after all, but I'd like to think people have learned their lessons.

Explaining the backstory to Fallout is actually kind of difficult:

"Ok, so it's the future.  But not our future; the world split from ours sometime around World War II in an alternate reality.  It's a future where the world is like a comic book from the 1950's.  There are sentient robots but televisions are (mostly) in black and white and computers are the size of a room, but they are sentient, and there are green screen terminals everywhere that have basic functions without the computer.  And everything is nuclear powered.  Hand held nuclear weapons are available to the average citizen.  There's basically no rock and roll; most music is 1940's pop or based on such.  The Soviet Union still exists, and China is still communist.  Then we get into a nuclear war with communist China and almost everybody dies, except a few people in nuclear survival Vaults, most of which weren't really designed to save people from nuclear war but to fark with them because SCIENCE.  Now, flash forward 100 (or 200, or 30-time periods vary depending on the game) years.  The world is a mess, but you can still find unopened and edible food and soft drinks from before the war all over the place (even though they were produced 100 years ago), and lots of those hundred year old computer terminals and robots still work."

I mean, given how radioactive the food is, we know it didn't rot, at least.

While I think Fallout is a fun game setting, I don't think it's a good TV setting. Half the fun of Fallout is wandering around the wasteland, soaking in the atmosphere, and stumbling across a weird bunker before getting horribly violated by a deathclaw.

I dunno; you could do a "wander the wasteland" type thing, with a new monster of the week or a new town for the main character(s) to explore.  Seems like it might be expensive to do though.

Hmmm, okay. I could see doing the "Wagon Train" formula. Highly episodic, but with an overarching plot. Honestly, that makes me hope Nolan leans more on his experience with Person of Interest than Westworld. Art design of Westworld, plot structure of PoI? Tentatively on board.

I expect season one to be about VaultTech building the vaults and some lowly worker/researcher discovering the For Science behind it and trying to get the word out when the bombs fall, the second to be in the Vaults (Actually, one episode per vault seeing how shiat went down might not be that bad of an idea, and the sets are reusable since all the vaults are similar anyway), then the third actually in the wasteland doing... stuff.

Westworld was pretty much that, wasn't it? I liked Westworld well enough.

It might be fun to see if they use the actual Fallout prop models. They could just improve them to photo-realistic and half the fun of the show would be seeing what, say, a jacked-up 10mm looks like in "real life".

I would recommend that they agree that VATS isn't a thing, though.

From the Wiki.

Can confirm, stupid fast, high damage and stacking poison. Also they swarm.

"While a sting from a young cazador isn't highly damaging, the sting of an adult is. A sting will do more physical damage than a giant radscorpion and cause three times more poison damage over a longer time. They are extremely fast and hard to escape unless their wings have been crippled. They attack in large swarms while also covering a large area. Crippling a wing via V.A.T.S. greatly slows them down and also temporarily disables their ability to fly. However, they will continue to sputter towards their enemy at a fast rate. Crippling their antennae will frenzy them. They do not take extra damage from shots to the head."

i ended up taking most of them out with ratslayer.  you could climb up one of the towers and crouch.  With high enough stats you'd get pretty much a critical hit everytime.  Took awhile.  I think it was the mom that wouldn't come over there though and that was just a stand up fight

Going north is my normal approach in NV, but not through the quarry.  If you go north up the highway and stick like white on rice to the cliffs on the right, you can get past the few deathclaws there.  You then cut into Hidden Valley, and then turn north again, going up through the crater with centaurs.  The hairiest part is exiting the mountain cliffs to the north of the crater, as you'll be dodging both deathclaws and supermutants.  But, it's entirely do-able.

I avoided it. When the barkeep tells me that it's populated with creatures that get mad when you shoot them, well then, that's just sage advice and tells me that I need to STAY THE FARK AWAY!  At least until level 15 or so and I've got Power Armor.

As for this, there is already an excellent show based on Fallout. It's called "The Storyteller" on YouTube.

Do you do a new Vegas where the hero is from the timeline. Or do you make it a vault dweller.

That is very good. I also enjoyed this one as well. So did Bethesda, as the Nuka Breaker in the Gun Runner's Arsenal DLC is a reference to this.

I don't know about this. Does the Fallout universe lend itself to providing the same sophisticated quality of storytelling we've grown accustomed to expect from HBO?

There better be explicit nudity and plenty of it.

Certainly could be interesting, although it's going to be a challenge to capture that engagement in a series. Fallout is one of the most emotionally captivating series when you get into the game(s). But translating that to a TV series will take a lot. Still, it's a richly visual experience that could look amazing with the right production.

//On a "good" playthrough of new vegas. It may be 10 years old, but I have to say it holds up especially if you use mods to bring it up a few years...

I demand post fight scenes with the main character taking everything from the corpses then in one continuous cut dragging their loot back to the nearest town.
