When I first came here, this was all river. Everyone said I was daft to build a bridge on a river, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the river. So I built a second one. That sank into the river. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the river. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest wall in all of Texas.

Oh the one that idiots built too close to the water and people told them it would fall in and they built it anyways? WEll at least they got conned into giving people money for it.

JasonOfOrillia: Let it fall in.  It can serve as a monument to the hubris of the builder and serve as a marker of the quality of his building.

I say give it a push

AuralArgument: Supercars suck.

Not the hybrid NSX.

It's a supercar, a daily driver, and a grand tourer in one convenient package.  Much more reliable and more serviceable than the other* supercars out there, w/ Tesla's on the TBD list.  Reasonable annual cost of ownership relative to the rest of the supercar bunch.  21mpg/22mpg fuel efficiency.

*new corvette is a lovely performer but the interior is so gaudy that it nearly makes me feel ashamed to be american

/yes i love the hybrid nsx and i'm biased af

And just a few hours ago I saw a Maclaren slammed sideways into pole in a parking lot.

I do think though those that drive the Japanese supercars though are a different breed of car owners/drivers

Just Google "Chamizal" to find out how fluid the US/Mexico border is on the Rio Grande.  There's a word for rivers that don't respect property lines.  Unless you dam them and concrete over the dry bed, nature has a way of ditching your effort to take a second $1.7B from the American taxpayer.

Many of the "Indian"-settler wars in the Southwest had to do with forcibly changing the flow of rivers, and starving out people down stream.

Does this Bubba come from around here, or is he a Yankee transplant.

pole vaunting

using the flat earth guy's rocket

That may be part of it. The entire philosophy behind the vehicle makes it occupy a segment where there's really no others (i suppose the likes of AMG/M-series would be close in most ways but hey, those are still sedans and coupes).

/feels bad for the corvette's motor and suspension

That's the entire point of the current grifters administration in charge.

Make as much money possible for themselves and their cronies.

Enigmamf: holdmybones: Army Corps of Engineers officials have said the firm won because it submitted the lowest bid.

The beginning of every doomed project starts with those words. And people continue doing it day after day.

Not that this project has merit to begin with.

It's not as if bids are accepted from people without the expertise and resources to complete a project, or unreviewed for completeness and feasibility - it really should be described as the 'lowest qualified bid'.

The damn fence is falling into a river.  It doesn't sound like qualified would be used to describe these clowns.

They're still making The Grand Tour, aren't they?  Because Jeremy Clarkson just bought a new Lamborghini.

Let's see if the "wall" can stand up to an actual Lamborghini.

Fark user imageView Full Size

Operating it requires great care for more reasons that just its proportions, Jeremy has discovered - due to the amount of torque generated by its straight-six turbodiesel engine (775 lb ft), fitting machinery to the back is a risky business.

What a farking idiot. Commercial aircraft fly higher than his "rocket" could ever go. And are safer.

The weather balloon edge of space experiments were far cheaper, safer, and effective. Just gotta be willing to take that first step and not deploy your chute too soon.

Of course he was just a douchebag AW , so he had to do it his way

The Mission private wall project, Fisher's second following a similar undertaking outside El Paso, is a little known but crucial part of the effort to help President Donald Trump meet his campaign promise to build 450 miles of "big, beautiful wall" by the end of 2020.

But I thought it was all going to be built by the feds and paid for by Mexico? Now you have donors trying to help you cheat to get your goal? Hey Donnie? You didn't build that.

The best part about dirt ramps, is that Mexicans could build a hundred of them on their side of the border, to help mount the wall, and there is nothing the US could legally do about it.

The ramps do not even have to be used.  They could simply exist as a means of trying up BP resources in order to keep an eye on them.

This was built several miles up from my property where there is already a wall. The fact its so close to La Lomita church is so infuriating. The river banks changing easily is well known among local farmers, especially when a hurricane comes through. My father told me once when a hurricane hit and it altered the flow so that it made a new turn and suddenly there were houses in MX now in TX. The government offered the new residents citizenship or return to MX, which was no longer where their houses stood. They all opted to leave their homes behind and go to MX.

Never thought a day would come I would be glad to already have a wall so something so ugly and stupid wouldn't be built there.

The demonstration segment falling into the river was not built under an AOE contract and was not built under AOE oversight - note the phrase "privately funded" in the headline.

UberDave: Article said "border wall" where it should have said "waste of money".

Trump's wall is a waste of money, putting up a big monument to how much he hates Mexicans.

But this guy's wall wasn't a waste of HIS money - he spent a few million, most of which he scammed out of haters, and got a yuge contract from the Trump Administration in return for his virtue signalling.

And yes, it'll fall over quickly. If they're going to build a border wall, that's the best kind.

Xzano: PainSorrowLoss: Acidicnads: Some basic ideas of how to get over a wall (feel free to add):

With the current walls, the popular methods have been
- ladders - commercial
- ladders - homemade
- Sawzall
and the most popular
- travel to the US legitimately on a visa, stay longer than it allows
- travel to the US legitimately on a visa that doesn't let you work, work anyway (Melania Trump did this one.)

That could be the bureaucrats revenge - you can't stop the shameful monument to racist stupidity from being built, but you can allow the contractor's own greed ensure it is not a lasting monument.
